In the comics there's no fucking doubt, on the movies...meh, not a chance, even less with Malekith using the power of an infinity stone, so...Fuck It. Also, Carson McDonald, All the Avengers where gathered when Ultron was born, so they knew how powerful he was, that's why they all fight him (or is it?). Also, it seems Fury only calls the avengers when someone fuck him up and USA is on threat, otherwise if it's on other part of the planet and it doesn't personally fucks him, then he doesn't give a damn.

Carson McDonald Two words: Response. Time. Ultron gives the Avengers a couple of weeks to get their act together and turn up for the party. The dark elves' invasion hits London, and, by the time someone finds Maria Hill's phone number, all that's left is to say "sorry, never mind. Thor handled this one solo." Suppose someone did alert Tony Stark immediately. Whats the Mk42's flight time from NYC to London? If it's more than twenty minutes, then the fight's over before he could get there; if it's less than several hours, he should be revolutionising the aeronautical industry. Chances are, by the time the other Avengers hear about Malekith as a threat it's "this unknown guy took down Thor and a large chunk of London. We need you to figure out what he is and how to stop him" not "here's an alien invasion we need you to go stop"

Biggest sin in this movie is Jane Foster being called mortal yet everyone in Asgard can be killed like Thor's mum or like loads of soldiers.

Well, technically, none of the Norse gods are "immortal" in the traditional sense. Pretty much all of them die before or during Ragnarok, which is slated to happen after Fimbulwinter. Same goes for the Einherjar (the soldiers). However, I think the movie is using the terms "god" and "mortal" as opposites, not "immortal" and "mortal"

Panthera I'll definitely look it up. Greek/Roman mythology gets intense but apparently not as much as Norse. You should check out Egyptian mythology. While not as hardcore as Norse, it's really fascinating.

Presumably they have women, and their wives do it, although we never see them. If there are no women, then perhaps they're immortal? Or perhaps they just live longer than Asgardians, and all the womenfolk died off a long time ago. In that case, they braid each other's long hair like Spartans. or they each braid their own hair as people commonly do nowadays. Perhaps it's not their hair being braided, but braids made out of the pelts of their enemies, perhaps Asgardian pelts.

Actually, the part where Loki turned into cap, that was Loki's voice. The director told him to mock cap. I saw it on some bonus features thing on FX

I would've taken off one sin for each of Loki's commentary lines during the escape from Asgard. He's just so funny, and Tom Hiddleston has awesome comedic timing.

"The Aether is the new Tesseract" Yeah, both are infinity stones. Each movie introduces new ones for the finale where all of them are combined in the gauntlet.

It is loading slow and, if, after it starts playing, I skip ahead or go back, it freezes. However, after reloading twice, because it froze twice, I got through the video.

Wait, Frigga and Loki both die from being stabbed in the back, possibly even by the same person, I don't really remember, however only Frigga really dies. And even if Loki was able to save himself using his magic than Frigga should have been able to do so too as she taught Loki everything he knows.

I think he’s just faking his death then killing the guard guy and pretend to be him to tell Odin that they found a body... but Loki (pretending to be the guard he killed) didn’t name who it was. tbh I would've tacked on a few sins for the horrific inaccuracies I noticed in the scene where Thor rides the Underground: -he goes in at Charing Cross, a station which has been closed since 1999 -he asks how long it would take him to get to North Greenwich, which would be impossible without multiple changes since Charing Cross is a terminus station -the woman who he asks says "three stops" which would be wrong anyway as it's eight from Green Park, the station immediately preceding Charing Cross

youjustpreviewed To avoid a long walk he would want to go to to Cutty Sark station, which he would have to travel on the DLR for, leaving his best option with the Northern to Tottenham Court Road, then the Central to Bank and finally the DLR to Cutty Sark or doing the previous route to North Greenwich and swapping to the DLR just before... This totals at least 3 changes and 15-17 stops. I personally think a sin should be added for each extra stop.

You missed a sin (and one that, as a Londoner, I am unable to look past) - when Thor is on a platform at Charing Cross, he asks a passenger how to get to Greenwich and she responds that it's three stops away on that train. There is no line on the Underground that connects the two.

Don't be sad. Hope that people will become like you, so that movie-goers will expect better. If everyone was very demanding, the people who write movies would have to try very, very hard, because if they didn't we'd tear them new assholes and they wouldn't get any money.

Idk if it was in the movie, but there is a bts clip where Tom and Chris are doing that scene and he does a Cap impression so they could get realistic timings as they walk between each column, if that makes sense.

"End credit scene introduces another bullsh*t artifact that we're going to have to worry about in future movies and will have vague, but extreme power" He is aware that WAS the Aether right?!

During the battle in london, you forgot to mention that a giant ogre monster thing was let loose and not referenced again, meaning its still out there wreaking havoc

My biggest problem was the goal of the Dark Elves. They want darkness ... why? They're never _in_ total darkness, their eyes see fine in the light (would've made more sense for them to see in the dark & need goggles in the light), the light makes nothing bad happen to them physically, and they'd need food that's grown in the light ... or do they never eat? It was a dumb goal from the get-go.

The dark elves in general felt like a whole lot of wasted potential. I mean they made a freaking functional language for these guys, but they can't be bothered to flesh out their motives a little better? Then again, what little there is in supplemental stuff implies some nasty things about Asgardians. I guess they didn't want to make the villains too sympathetic. Nothing kills good-guy status quite like genocide.

I highly doubt there'll be a "Director's Cut" to any Marvel movie following Iron Man. These films are made with twelve-year-olds in mind, and they don't often demand an extended cut of a movie. What's really disgusting is how lackluster the plot of this movie was, and knowing that not only was this NOT an unrefined rough draft, but it was actually REVISED by Joss Whedon, and still turned out this bad. I mean, I don't like Joss much at all as it is. Avengers turned out to be an overhyped film that carried no weight. Knowing that this post-Avengers movie was in part his handywork, I'm just getting offended now. Dude actually wrote some comics for Marvel, but can't make a film feel comic book epic. All you need to know is that the Dark Elves are a poorly constructed lot who were designed with aesthetics in mind, not substance. They're the Stormtroopers of this film, and even their leader is more Stormtrooper than Vader. We'll have better luck with the Collector's one Dark Elf trophy escaping after the purple stone explosion in Guardians of the Galaxy and wreaking havoc than we will of understanding the Dark Elves at all.

Michael Eno It's very unlikely but not impossible seeing as even the Director really wants it to happen. It would be great though because it sounds like they cut out most of the decent character development and a director's cut could seriously improve this film. To be honest it's kind of a shame that Joss was involved with this one as while The Avengers is a very enjoyable film it's characterization left a lot to be desired and instead of getting a chance to round the characters off more we just got more of the same.

I would say the Avengers is only enjoyable the first two times around. After that, even watching it a couple years later offers no joy. Since Iron Man, it built up an enormous amount of traction and hype, only to be revealed as a cheap collection of bad cliches, half-witted one liners, and fighting montages. The story failed to make any sense. Namely in the idea that Loki and Thor are several thousand years old, yet act as old as they look. Loki ought to know that Midgard is too hazardous to claim, and what reason would he have for wanting it? They offered no real explanation as to why he'd bargain with Thanos for an army to conquer Earth. What beef did he have with the world? In the first Thor, he didn't like Thor. How'd that transition to Earth? They never said. If anything, I could understand that upon his revelation of his true heritage, he'd attempt to claim his birthright as the leader of Jotunheim, and have his own personal army of Jotnar rather than rely on a leased group of Chitauri. At least Jotnar don't simultaneously die if the flagship goes down.

Also, how did the Dark Elves go into stasis for thousands of years and still have technology superior to that of Asgard?

Im going to nit pick, but I swear the hammer isnt that heavy, its just held down by asgardian wuju that stops acting when thor picks it up because he is "worthy". So like no one would be able to take it off the coat hook but it could happily be placed there by thor

MyBeinghuman His sassiness would've made this movie 80 times better. I mean it was already pretty good because of his little snarky gems, but it would have been a MARVELous movie if they'd gotten more Loki.

In Nordic mythology you don't really need the bifrost. Also Thor usually eats his immortal goats. Also Loki is Odins brother. Also there was very little violence in vanaheim. Also Dark elfs (or Svartalfs) are half dwarf half elf. They can't do out in sunlight and spend their time in Nidaveller. Svartalfs also are on the gods side and were crucial in stopping ragnarok. Also almost none of them were warriors/magicians. Also Odin can warp reality to whatever is best for the world. Also WTF HAPPENED TO THE EINHERJI?!? The fucking immortal army of hundreds of thousands of Vikings and war Chiefs collected over thousands of years?!?

I watched this with my sister a few days ago (it was the second time she saw it but my first) and we both came to the same conclusion: the Aether doesn't want its host to be harmed. If it thinks any physical contact is meant to harm her, it's not going to let it happen. Because if she dies, it dies. I don't understand how they didn't figure that out. I mean they sorta did, but they just said it didn't make sense or whatever. It's a goddamn movie about a god with a magic hammer that can decide if people are worthy of wielding it. Logic is generally thrown out the window as soon as special powers or inanimate objects that have some level of sentience are added. Not to mention, if the Norse gods are actually real, where are Egyptian, Hindu, and Greek/Roman gods? I know it's based off the comic and that only had Norse gods, but fuck that. With LOTR and the Hobbit, any non-movie information was irrelevant, so it shouldn't be any different with this.

so does this count all the vanir? or just the aesir? sure he was the strongest but not the most powerful. tyr was braver than him odin was wiser. strength doesn't mean all powerful. and over all he was great and a very powerful god like all the Aesir and Vanir. but Marvel thor is very twisted from his original self. i mean the original thor was a red head and also scandinavian people are not in anyway british/austrailian or whatever. marvel doesn't make sense man. also he's the main character, also marvel doesn't give a crap about being consistent.

Absolutely spot on. I liked it ok, but the plot holes and other bullshit was so bad I actually noticed them, and I don't usually really care about such things. Biggest one being how whacked the Marvel universe is. The Avengers all come together to defend the earth, but all of freaking reality is at stake and it's up to Thor alone?? No sign of Shield, no sign of anybody else? Uh huh. Convenience!! :)

Well, to be fair... the Asgardians aren't known to ask for help, having claimed dominion over the Nine Realms. Even Thor was sort of hesitantly drafted into the Avengers, and he actually acknowledges mortal authority. As much as self-proclaimed gods do that sort of thing.

But helloooo Marvel - ALL realms are at stake, with an apparent focus/epicenter on earth, but Thor, who has no issue departing from the typical deity line, consults/informs no one with real power. Then, a giant alien spacecraft violently lands in freaking Greenwich, again on EARTH. This in a (Marvel) world of heightened sensitivity/fear after New York plus typical instant worldwide exposure, Yet again, ...crickets from anybody else. DUH!!!.(not you, Marvel) I'm afraid these producers are taking the assumption that we're all too goo goo eyed over effects to care about BASIC credibility, a bit too far.

I had a couple of those watching Captain America 2 this weekend...

Great as always, but you forgot one thing,something that bothered me the moment I saw it: we're supposed to be viewing Maliketh as this super serious threat who's going to fuck up the whole universe, but he needed help killing Thor's mother.

Not only DO some cultures have goats as part of their banquet, Thor does specifically, and they regenerate over knight to eat again.

I think "Played by Chris O'Dowd cliché" is my new favourite cliché

Missed the "S.H.I.E.L.D. is unresponsive to universal threat aside from other superheroes" sin. And the "It is not better because money and in over their heads" sin

"Asgardians degrade humans as "mortals" but then the only dead people we see in this movie are Asgardians and dark elves.....Hell even with all the shit that was going on in London and a giant monster roaming through London everyone seems to be fine. Quite ironic"

I don't get the "hot" thing. He always came off as sickly to me. Still a great character.

The scenes with the birds coming in and out of portals and the people throwing things in and watching to see where it comes out seems straight from The Animatrix: Beyond

I mean, the conflict occurring between Thor and the Dark Elves only spent an hour at best on Earth, after which it entirely ended. That's a rather small window for response time for the other Avengers, who are all on another continent. I mean, Iron Man is in California, Captain America, Black Widow, and Nick Fury are in DC, Hawkeye is with his wife, which is somewhere in the Great Plains I'm guessing, and the Hulk is probably hiding out in some random Middle Eastern country.

No, marvel could totally make this crisis or any other crisis you see in the standalone movies an avengers crisis. The reason they don't? Money. It's highly profitable for them to make a sequel for each character, making nearly as much money on each standalone film as they would on an avengers movie. The disgruntled viewers who are upset they can't see iron man are an acceptable collateral; because those same viewers still bought a ticket to this movie. You can rationalize this plot hole through the fictional universe in any way you'd like, but the reality of the situation is that it just makes more sense financially for the studio to do things in this way.

I mean, you could argue that Marvel can make ANYTHING happen in these movies, and they can, so of course there will be real world reasons for things happening, but they did cover their asses with the short timeframe in this movie. Iron Man 3, not so much.

Katarina M. Basically, I think that people should stop trying to rationalize why the avengers aren't in every movie and just enjoy the standalones for what they are.

and one more thing i just noticed: while not nearly as bad as the end-credits scene, the mid-credits scene makes no f***ing sense. I mean I get that they didn't want to have two gems in one place but, seriously, what the f*** made them think that they could trust the collector? I mean how long have they known this guy? And even if they have known this guy for a while, seriously his name is the collector. what about that name made you think he was going to give it back after they destroy the dark forces that seek to use its power for evil?

I totally agree :D I was even like: Why the hell hasn't Thor, the guardian of the 9 realms(!!!!!!), been put in charge of safekeeping that gem?! Obviously that tank and his lady friend are just fodder and screen filling. That scene made absolutely no sense to me! The entire movie didn't make sense actually...

yeah good point but i think its setting up for guardians of the galaxy they still need four gems though so nothing bad is gonna happen to them yet loki had one gem in his staff in the avengers i think he did anyway

On the very end on the FX's, Thor was bathing his 'upper body', when that guy says,"so you managed to get your shirt of,"no idea why but i laughed so hard on that one.

I'm surprised he didn't mention Thor hanging his hammer on the peg

When thor uppercutted the rock guy at the end the "mortal combat finish him voice" should have played

"She will not survive the amount of energy surging within her" ...Wow...

One thing that bothered me the most is the fact that Thor was getting an ass whopping by Kursed while not so much from Malekith with the possession of the Aether. I would think it would be the opposite since Malekith is the main antagonist.

Anyone else think of Mass Effect 2 from this movie? Literally everything reminds me of it. The main dark elf villain reminds me of Harbringer (Harbinger?), for example.

Man, those "we interrupt this superhero movie to bring you" parts were gold! Love this one! Do Incredible Hulk next and the MCU videos will be complete! (except Winter Soldier, which only comes out in American theaters tomorrow, so... yeah.)

Seems like Glaring Sin #1 should be - technologically advanced Asgardians who have space ships, energy weapons and force fields are still fighting hand-to-hand combat with swords.

Not sure if it counts as irony, but I love the idea of the concept that Zachary Levi, who plays Chuck Bartowski, also plays Fandral in this, a person it would give Chuck nerdgasms to be; the swashbuckling, adventuring Errol Flynn type god from comic books.

If we have a "Dr. Who is that?" during The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug with Sylvester McCoy, I will be a happy man.
