Everything wrong with the XL Sentinel chicken coop

Hello everyone! this is my honest review of the XL Sentinel chicken coop from tractor supply. I use the deep litter method ( let the droppings acumulate for about 3 to 4 months to compost it) I hope this information I useful for you.

Thanks for the honest review on that chicken coop. We considered that one before deciding to purchase a fully assembled Amish built one. Great DIY fixes to improve on yours.

I'm glad you went with the Amish one. I really like yours. I was hoping to find one in my area, but maybe next time. Lol. Thank you so much my friend. Blessings to you and your beautiful family!

For the winter time, you can attach thick clear shower curtains to the run or and semi clear tarp. We use screws, nuts and washers to attach it. That would keep the snow out and your hens would be better protected. I also change out the pine shavings once per month so it doesn't get as gunky. I tried deep litter method and it had the most disgusting smell. One bag of fresh shavings and First Saturday Lime once a month, plus daily poop pick up, keeps my coop odorless.

I'm very happy for you! I have had chickens for a long time and I love them. They are the easiest farm animals to take care of. Have a wonderful day.

I like the overall size of the chicken run but the coop arrangement is dismal. Why do these coop designers always put the chicken-roosts over the nesting boxes? Everything gets so poopy. Ugh! And I would be either using deep bedding of a particular material - straw, for example or clean it out more regularly. Otherwise it becomes a health hazard for not only your chickens bur for you, also.

I also like the overall size. I do deep litter method with pine shavings. I usually keep the coop as clean a I can, but I wanted to know how far I could go with the deep litter method. The ventilation window works OK. Thank you so much for watching. You have a wonderful weekend.

I thought the same thing about the roosting bar over the nesting boxes when I was perusing this coop on the TSC website. A customer reviewer had a great modification. He put PVC that was larger then the bar around only the part over the nesting boxes so that they wouldn't roost there. I would also think that you could put some sort of latch over the rooster bar ends to keep the bars from popping up.
