Everything Wrong With The X-Files: Fight the Future In 18 Minutes Or Less

Фильм және анимация

X-Files: Fight the Future is the first of two X-Files films... I think. I honestly can never remember which one is which. Anyway, this has sins, so we counted them.
Outtakes are here: • Everything Wrong With ...
Next week: animated sins from the last decade, action sins from the '90s
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

"Going back to the monster of the week" was something I always wondered about, even in the series: Mulder and Scully talk to God and find the ultimate meaning of the Universe one week, and the next week, they're investigating potato chips that can talk. I call that a bit of a letdown.

The structure of an X Files season was always capped by Mythology episodes. Season Five Finale "The End", as well as other mythology storyline (specifically about the Syndicate acquiring a vaccine from the the Russians) led into the movie and then Season Six "The Beginning" continued with elements from the movie (such as an infected Syndicate scientist, who gestates the aggressive alien, and the agents being interrogated by OPR). Some of the conspiracy was told in the movie and further details were disclosed and resolved in Season Six's epic "Two Fathers/One Son".

@@Soundwave927 True, but I was wondering about what the characters themselves would have thought. Perhaps (and I just thought of this, so someone has probably done it already) the X-Files should be viewed as episodes from two parallel series, one with just the "monster of the week" and one with just the Mythology episodes. If the episodes are divided up this way, do the Mythology episodes form a continuous development? (I wouldn't expect the "monster of the week" episodes to, just by their very nature.)

At a certain point the "Monster of the Week" episodes are better because at least they get new information and a conclusion. The conspiracy bullshit got out of hand fast and became total nonsense, there's no reason to watch the "mythos" episodes.

all of the best episodes are MOTW though. Not only do you find the best character development in MOTW but they are often better written. After your first watch-through there is absolutely no reason to watch any myth arc episodes again.

Precisely. Linear chronology does not work for lengthy series of this kind. There's only so much that can believeably happen in a single person's life. The episodes shouldn't be connected saving on occasion but rarely.

You hit on something that was one of the main problems of the series: Scully saw weird shit WEEK after WEEK after WEEK...and yet she would default back to square-one skeptic in the next episode. It's like she didn't become more open-minded until Mulder departed the series and suddenly she needed to step into the role of the person who initiated investigated that week's weird shit.

Denying what you haven't seen, heard, read about, or heard valid secondhand accounts of is one thing. Questioning and investigating what you have seen is entirely reasonable, which scientists and detectives/investigators have to do. Denying that what you've seen and heard firsthand, things you've experienced, which have been done to you, which you've seen physical evidence of, is even possible, much less probable, is a completely different thing. A scientist or investigator who refuses to change their opinions and perspectives once they're given concrete evidence, is just bad at their job

9/11 happened and Carter felt the pessimistic tone, conspiracy theories and mistrust of the govt which were a huge part of the series wasn't what the country needed at the time so he tabled whatever plans he had. He believed the country needed to come together and people needed to trust its leaders. Also the conspiracy theory that arose from the pilot episode of The Lone Gunmen probably affected his descision. The episode was about terrorists that plotted to crash an airliner into a building.

The movie clued the fans in on how bees factor into the conspiracy. Season Four episodes "Herronvolk" and "Zero Sum" involved a vast bee husbandry project run by human clone/drones and a botched trial where people (including a schoolyard full of children) were killed by bees carrying Smallpox. In the movie, the alien virus a.k.a. "black oil", (mostly lying dormant deep in the earth, and otherwise seen being extracted in Tunkuska) was most likely used to infect the bees, who to spread it to the human populace when the aliens that left Earth, returned to colonize our planet.🤓 If you have a conspiracy, why not make it convoluted and complicated beyond belief or comprehension? Series Creator Chris Carter wouldn't have it any other way.

You freaked me the hell out when you said Locke as Terry O'Quinn appeared on screen. I'm half way through a re-watch of Lost and it was just the weirdest of coincidences 😆

Sin off for me being in love with Scully as a kid. Sin back on for Mulder being literally the luckiest fictional character ever. I used to watch this show every week and it all makes sense how he survived his crazy adventures.

10:30 I hate to disagree with CS, but cornfields are planted in rows.... straight rows. You stay in that row you're going straight. But Jeremy's probably right; they most likely had to go diagonally through the field. In that case, all bets are off.

@@LightningDaemon Haha! To be fair , though, most of his comments are really meant for entertainment purposes only. (There are plenty of "sins" given out that aren't actually "sins"/errors but rather just opinionated comments he makes. Opinions about the movie itself shouldn't technically be counted as sins, but they are anyway. Whatevs. :)

Minor correction! You said "aviary" but that's where birds are kept. Apiary is where bees are kept.

When i went on Vacation this year, we were standing near a tree full of bees. When i felt something atbthe back of my neck and heard some buzzing, i tried to shoo it away but i never saw it take of and thought it must have fell. Three days later that bee stung me 3 times in my arm while on my bike, she fell into my suit. So i think it's completly possible. PS. I know bees van only Sting once, i was wearing wind protection under my leathers which i think prevented the stringer from getting stuck

i trust any film with the band "X" covering the doors, doing soundtrack work, and that has Martin Landau in it, at the very least of his career, was commander of moon base alpha.

Actually watching reruns of Space 1999 today. Landau was also great in "Tucker: The Man and His Dream" with Jeff and Lloyd Bridges. The scene with Landau in the back alley seems so prescient... so... appropriate for 2021.
