So they made fun of a classic JRPG thing in a classic JRPG that didn't bother to actually subvert it? It's almost like Frozen on love at first sight except it was a modern Disney movie.

LITTLE KNOWN FACT: If you go back to the balcony on Booster's Tower after Peach joins your party, you'll find Booster out there with the Snifits looking up at the sky and wondering when his next bride will fall from the sky. Then if you go back again after you beat Valentina, you'll find her there with Booster trying to convince her to marry him. At first she refuses, but then he whispers something in her ear, and whatever it is causes her to fall for him. This explains why they're seen getting married in the ending scene.

Yyyyyeah, it's clear that Nintendo was the one who was writing the story, that's why the story was so lacking for a SquareSoft game. I don't get why Nintendo could've just let Square do the story writing. ...Oh wait, that's right. Nintendo most likely just asked Square to implement their RPG mechanics while *Nintendo* did the story writing. I wonder if Nintendo even learned anything about a good story when they looked at Chrono Trigger.

i think i know what charriii means by [COMPLETELY LEGAL COPY OF SUPER MARIO RPG] and that's playing on a PC emulator called ZSNES. i had the same problems he described but luckily ZSNES has save states so i could recover from a freeze. and btw i could never get the blue star piece on the emulator. idk why but every time the game would freeze upon me reciving the blue star piece. or to be more specific im talking about the star piece you get from the shark pirate dude.

@@starrypines590 There's a hidden block on top of the doorway at the end of the first hallway in Peach's castle. This can only be accessed on your first visit to the castle, jumping on Toad's head as he makes his way to the back leading you to the Chancellor. If you do not get it on this first visit, you can never get to it on that file. The random Toad wandering the hall nearby never goes close enough to get up, and when you return with Peach later Toad zooms ahead and doesn't give an opportunity to jump on him.

I mean, I could go on and say that it's a video game, entirely fictional, thus it can't be in the real world, but that'd be cheap and would suggest most films, like Rocky Balboa, aren't "set in the real world" either, _but_ what I _can_ say is that most of Nintendo's games _are_ set in the same universe, with at least Mario, Donkey Kong, and Banjo, as well as, debatably, the land of Hyrule, coexisting on one planet. Since Mario and Donkey Kong both appear in Punch-Out, we can assume Punch-Out also takes place on this same planet.

*Fun Fact* - Ted Woolsey wanted to name Punchinello "James Bomb" as a nod to James Bond, but management said no. His introduction "The name's Nello, PUNCHINELLO" is a remnant of this.

As a huge Mario nerd, I can confirm that the concept of heaven exists in Mario canon, and is a playable level in Super Paper Mario (Hell also exists, but it’s closer to the version in Greek mythology).

Quick question, why exactly would Mario build his house in a place that requires him to traverse a road filled with monsters to get to his Princess, but takes less effort to get to the home of his sworn enemy?

As Chariii5 put it himself. The story kinda feels disjointed. Smithy felt like one of the most one-dimensional Mario RPG villains imaginable. He mentions revenge, but the game doesn't bother to go further into his backstory.

I ***NEED*** a fully voice acted video of the game. Did he voice it just for the video? Because that would be amazing.

I think that would be obvious considering that there's an entire race of people that look JUST LIKE YOU! Sure Mallow is dumb, but Frogfucius admits that he isn't a frog and that he's actually a cloud. So, there's no reason for Mallow to NOT believe he's the prince.

I dunno if you got the references or not but Mack is a knife, Bowyer is a bow, the Axem Rangers rode a giant Blade and Yaridovich should have been renamed to Speardnik or something to keep the pun (Yari means Spear in Japanese). Smithy is literally an evil blacksmith creature. All of his creatures (except shysters) are some kind of weapon that you would use in a normal JRPG.

Peach constantly gets kidnapped cuz if she uses even 0.001% of her power to protect herself, she'll destroy the world. That's why you fight Culex in that trippy void area. That's the only world that can easily handle her power. In Super Princess Peach, she's learned how to handle her powers a little easier, but she still doesn't use them much, just to be safe. Do *not* underestimate Princess Toadstool. She *can* and *will* end you if you're not careful.

So says Death Battle, which I honestly believed despite it being clearly obvious that Bowser had an unhealthy fetish for Peach... But jokes aside, if she can do all of this and even hold her own against Bowser not once but multiple times, and solo the hardest boss in Super Mario RPG, why doesn't she fight back against Bowser? Even if Bowser could overpower her, nothing is stopping her from fleeing or defending herself.

This video has successfully convinced me that I should play this game. I was originally not really planning on it, since the whole reason I can even stand the Mario RPGs in the first place is because of the Action Commands, and I thought Super Mario RPG didn't have them... apparently they do, so that's really good. Also, I realized just how much music in this video I recognized due to other KZread videos, which is ANOTHER plus! (Apparently FitMC uses a lot of SMRPG music.)

This game weirdly became really prominent over these past few months. First Stephenplays did an LP of this. Then The Geek Critique did a review of this game. Afterwards, Lucahjin did a semi-blind LP with Proton Jon co-commentating. And now we have Charri5 doing an EWW video on the game. I’m not complaining I just find it odd several KZreadrs I watch covered this game back to back

I remember downloading this game to my Wii and playing through a good chunk of it and there was like some point where all my stars that I collected were taken away and I didn't figure out where I was supposed to go. I don't recall if this game was actually on the SNES classic which I currently have and as far as I can tell I don't believe it's on the SNES online service on the switch, but hopefully it will be cuz I'd love to actually try to get through this game entirely. I grew up in the 90s but very much missed out on this game

Considering that Gaz refers to the Shooting-Star Shot as "custom, patented, one and only" it leads me to believe that Gaz did some wicked modifications to the Geno doll to make it shoot harder than it was supposed to. Like some kind of prophetic reference to what people would do with NERF Guns these days. Or it was a prophetic reference to the BIONICLE set that shot the little plastic marbles and those things fucking *hurt* if you got nailed by them.

Loved this game back in the day - thanks for bringing it back. I remember the characters and gameplay more than the story, but have fond feelings...

I'm back rewatching this before the remaster in November! Hopefully they rework the mine car minigame so the turns aren't so infuriating.

@@SufferingSuccotash As heartbreaking as that Dream was, I think we're still critically in need of a mention of another series which is still an RPG *on paper* that went on to shove in puzzle combat gimmicks, handicap its own worldbuilding, and make a puppet guy talk for hours.

@@BlizzardxThexWolf The first time was cause you needed to meet Vivian, but yes I so agree for after you see his bird. He could be back at the Steeple as soon as you know his name. I think the curse affected every other partner since they still follow Doopliss back to the Steeple after you say his name anyway. I wonder which other time saves there could be? I kinda liked Flavio's reluctant and petty nature. Ch3 could've been a few less fights and had a modified postgame, but overall I still really like it.

so many walls have been broken in this game, it's like they built a city just for these fourth wall breaks. and now people are wondering why they have a hole in one of the walls in their house.

I can never unhear the characters in this game thanks to LordOfTheJimmy's Super Mario Guy RPG series, where characters had Family Guy voices. Mario is Peter, Peach is Lois, Bowser is Stewie, Mallow is Chris, and Geno is Brian to name a few.

Say what you want about Geno never begin In any Super Smash Bros Games, but together will always believe In him In our hearts!

Also the Mallow is a Small Localized Event Human-Sized Cloud; the weight mentioned in the video is for Storm Clouds that span Several Tens of Cubic Kilometers.

Since SMB2 (the Japanese and American versions both), Luigi started to be differentiated from Mario (different physics in both versions and a whole different sprite in the American version). Not to mention that there were two whole animated series based on SMB by that time just in America where Luigi was necessarily given his own personality. There was also the live action movie and comics and God knows what else.

@@adark1289, I can see why you'd say that but some of that characterization from the cartoons seems to have carried right on through the rest of the series. Also, Nintendo has always maintained an iron grip on their cash cow licenses. I wouldn't be surprised if they actually had a lot of involvement with the cartoons and the movie and would have definitely had it set up where they had final say over anything.

It has to do with a certain armor upgrade you get after beating Valentina. Also I loved this guys sass in regards to some things in this video, I laughed a few times at them. P.s: if you want a challenge to try, try doing either 50 or 100 super jumps with Mario in battle, than return to Monstro town and talk to the dog like enemy to get a special surprise.😎
