Everything Wrong With Prince of Persia in 18 Minutes or Less

Фильм және анимация

Prince of Persia is a movie based on a video game, so right out of the gate you should lower your expectations. Then... lower them some more. We counted all the sins so you don't have to.
Thursday: Princess sins.

I hate how so many movies nowadays film everything on hand-held cameras and the cameramen are all drunk or have some kind of nervous tick so the camera's always shaking for no necessary reason. 😡

Nothing is True. Everything is Permitted. @Robert Monroe Assassin’s Creed was actually supposed to be a Prince of Persia spin off called Prince of Persia: Assassins. Following the Prince’s Royal Assassins as they assist him on many adventures. Then they changed it into its own franchise, borrowing many story beats and concepts from a novel called Alamut.

It really is. I thought it was a decent action film. As a videogame adaptation, it was fairly exceptional. It also gave me a hint at what we may have seen in the third game that was never made. Mechner's done an interesting job of telling, re-telling, and re-re-telling this story in ways that feels wholly appropriate for an ancient tale.

Eh, kind of has nothing to do with the actual game's plot. The entire message is absolutely different. While his father got punished for stealing ancient artifacts from a different culture he didn't understand the use of. Taking slaves and cursing his own people with the sands of time. Turning them into creepy sand monsters. While the whole story is told as a story. Since every failure is treated as" that's not how the story ended" I usually don't like Ubisoft, but those early games were actually good, unlike the rest, where they are absolutely buggy worthless garbage that has mtx and time savers.

@Amir-Hamza Oh I'm not Iranian. I'm technically ancient Persian/Parsi - from before when Persia became Iran. That being said, I honestly don't see any point in rebooting it just to fit a particular ethnicity. I don't think I ever considered the movie less than what I consider it to be because of the lack of Asian actors. That being said, in the current politically correct world (which I am unfortunately very much not a part of), I think your casting is pretty much on point! Interesting article too. Well done. Try and root around for more Parsi actors if you like - they'd be an even closer match to what you're gunning for. But otherwise, absolutely spot on.

If (fictionnal) Norse gods can be black in the MCU, if the (fictionnal) Danish Little Mermaid can be of mixed race in the Woke Disney Cinematic Universe, then (fictionnal) Persians can be white as linen sheets and speak posh English.

@UCT23FRN2eoTYMW0qdjseRNg you may have missed my point, I think. My point being : why are people attaching that much importance to alledged "whitewashing" when the opposite happens everyday and the same people don't give a flying F ? Why oh why should it even be considered a problem, as long as no blackface/minstrel shenanigans are involved, that a role described as "coloured" could be portrayed by a "white" actor (example at hand, Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell), when some "coloured" actors (or whatever the culturally sensitive description is nowadays) can play "white roles", no questions asked from the SJW crowd (again, the examples I have quoted before, and just add in Hermione in the Harry Potter stage play)? This stupid trend of bringing all back to race and racial views is poisoning and destroying the American society, and also slowly contaminating the rest of the western societies. Stop describing skin colour as if it was a culture or society of its own, as if it was anything else than just DNA encoding how much melanine will pigment the skin. Skin colour should be (mostly) irrelevant nowadays (that is, casting George Washington or any of the Continental Congress as a black man or Harriet Tubman as a blue eyed blonde would be weird). Sorry if I threw a tantrum/if I went on a verbal rampage...
