Everything Wrong With Mamma Mia In 15 Minutes Or Less

Фильм және анимация

With Mamma Mia 2 approaching quickly, we reluctantly decided to go looking for sins in the original Mamma Mia. We instantly regretted this decision.
Thursday: Typing sins.
Remember, no movie is without sin! Which movie's sins should we expose next?!

Fun Fact about this film a lot of the 'extra's who you see dancing are actually locals who live on the Island and asked if they could join in. The people on the docks dancing were all locals living on the island originally not intended to be in the film!

Now see this is actually another thing that should be a sin I think, because it makes no sense that Donna and Sam can be married. Correct me if I'm wrong and maybe the laws are different in Greece but before you get married you need an actual marriage license from the city hall or something; the ceremony is just a ceremony but if you have the license before that you're technically already married. So really Sophie and Sky would be married already, and Donna and Sam's marriage wouldn't be official until they got a license. You don't get married just by having a priest say "I pronounce you man and wife." 😂 ~:~

Natalie Harshman many places you c an have a religious ceremony which is just that, a ceremony ( without legal value to the government), but with a lot of value to the people that are taking part. But that said, some places ( religious places) wouldn’t marry a couple just like that either, without checking them, having them be part in the religious community, or have a future legal contract etc. though I’ve seen a few without those.

So many 'Sins' and you forgot the most obvious one. The time loop hole: Donna met these guys during the Flower power era according to "Our last summer". Let's say 1974 to make it more plausible. So Sophie was born in 1975. The musical is set in 2004, the movie in 2008. Which would make Sophie somewhere between 29 and 33 played by 23 year old Seyfried. And they say that Sophie is 20 years old several times... And where did she meet these obviously English best friends that has never been to Greece or this island when she has grown up and spent her whole life on this island.

I think you should cut this movie a lot of slack. I mean, it's a musical, and every musical has an equal portion of cheese and cringe. And this was originally written as a Broadway musical, so I think that makes it even harder to be masterfully transferred to cinema, unlike with musicals intended to be movies and musicals based off of books. Movies based off of plays have much less creative liberty than ones bases on books or original ones, and plays naturally have a thing about them that makes them weird to be turned into movies. Although this movie has a lot of cringe-worthy and cheesy moments, I still find it enjoyable because it is fun and certainly has a unique story, and it is also set on an awesome Mediterranean island. It's one of those fun, feel good, and delightfully cheesy movies that are hard to dislike.

This comment was a long time ago but I was just in the musical and the script for the movie and the musical are SO different; the musical's script is a lot dirtier (we had to censor parts of it), a lot of the songs that are in the musical aren't in the movie (Under Attack, Knowing Me Knowing You, etc.). A lot of the songs that are there are moved around in the movie (Take A Chance On Me happens before the wedding scene, Winner Takes It All happens in the scene before that, etc.) And the music/vocals are slightly different; the ending belt of Winner Takes It All is a C5, not....whatever Meryl was singing.

@@elenafahmi9955 Not to mention that in the musicals script Sam proposing to Donna feels much more deserved than the movie. Sam had actual character development and Harry had a bit more too. Harry singing Our Last Summer with Donna in the musical feels way more in place because it was THEIR summer, having all 3 of the dads singing it and telling those experiences to Sophie felt extremely weird. Also it might be a nitpick but I can't get over the change in sound mixing (Idk what it qualifies as) when the movie jumps from dialogue to song

  • @elenafahmi9955

Thrash Division I think it’s just transitions; the movie didn’t really have any transitions from speaking to singing it’s just talktalktalkYOU CAN DANCE, and it comes out of nowhere. In the musical, the beginning instrumentals are backed up a little bit underneath the dialogue so that when they start singing, it’s not something that came out of nowhere.

Can’t believe the sequel has an 87% on rotten tomatoes with 39 critic reviews so far. The first one has a 54% so it seems like they did something better this time, of course it’s still early and the score will definetely change, but it looks like it’s a little bit better

As I've said in the past about Mamma Mia! They used that song ALL kinds of wrong. friday night ? it was broad daylight on like, a tuesday. dancing Queen, 17? um... nobody is 17 in this movie, no way in hell it was Meryl Streep. 71, maybe. not 17. they butchered it, and honestly I think they used it too early in the movie to begin with. That is something you END the movie on, ( which they also did, lol? ) they blew their load early, and it was not satisfying for anyone.

A mistake not a lot of people actually know: The song played at Sophie’s wedding as Donna walks her down the aisle is called “Knowing Me, Knowing You” and like most of ABBA’s songs, it’s about breaking up and moving on from it. It’s extremely ironic for a song about breaking up to be playing at a wedding.
