I served on an AOR: supply ship & fleet oiler. In other words, it was a Storekeeper (LS’s were called storekeeper (SK) back in the day) sweat shop! Not only did they have duties related to our ship they were busy with taking-on and off-loading supplies for the fleet. We did over 100 UNREP's for each of 2 Med cruises which can get dicey in heavy seas. The 8-week deployment in the N. Atlantic in between the Meds had nightmarish weather. Good news is those ships are now USNS (civilian crew).

I am an LS and I am being sent to hazmat school, does anyone know if that will be useful for after the navy?

Does anybody know if past medical history of anxiety but not current is 100% disqualifying? I’ve read yes but also hear things about waivers but not sure what can and what can’t get waivers.

Yes, anxiety or any other mental health issue is disqualifying.

Question/clarification ....You can strike for LS, so long as the CO approves your 1306 and you get frocked E4....i.e. LS3 without having to take the advancement exam? If that is correct, then I can certainly see how there is resentment from other LS “A” School graduates towards strikers. When did this NAVADMIN change for this occur? 16% advancement in LS rate? In the three decades I served (YN) I can not recall my advancement rate ever being close to double digits. Wow how times change, if we had ever seen a 16% advancement, we would have thought it was a gift from the gods.

Wow that sure gives strikers a nice gift for going undesignated, I know how much they have to do until they make E4, as I too went Mess Crank (not derogatory in my day, just what it was known as, as these guys were in the galley doing the same thing as those of us who went to “A” School ).... Just wondering what was the FMS to make LS2 (previously Storekeeper 😁)? PS: Congrats on ESWS, back in the 80’s we had no formal pathway for ESWS (there of course was still all the quals and PQS requirements, but no guidance of how to accomplish, I spoke to an LDO Divo, who got me in contact with his best LPO, who I connected with to locate an Engineering Training PO and for me this was my most direct route) which if you were extremely hardworking/dedicated sailor and worked with them OJT, it took the best part of a year. I was only one of four to be designated ESWS on my first sea duty tour, so it was monumental when a frocked YN3 qualified ESWS. I still remember the CO’s speech to the crew when he pinned my ESWS on me, saying how much hard work it took to accomplish and how he wished others could be as highly motivated to go after ESWS.

LS? is that like an old school SK ship stores or AK aviation stores? This Cold War era A01 (NAC) from the VF / VP realm would like to know. BZ Shipmate, hand salute!

@@adoseofki Hey can you clarify something for me? Your contract is 8 years long but is it 6 years in the reserves and 2 years in the IRR (individual ready reserves) or is all of your 8 years in the reserves and none of it is in the IRR?

I haven’t heard anything about the IRR but whenever you go to Meps they’ll lay out your contract for you and you’ll see your obligations.. I THINK if needed you could be ordered to active duty but don’t quote me on that

@@adoseofki Yeah I will speak to my recruiter about it. I know it is on the Air Force, National Guard, and Army's website (6 years Reserves and 2 years IRR). But I was unable to find anything on the Navy's website. Yeah you can be order to active status if needed. Needs of the Navy. Get used to hearing that phrase. Good Luck and Godspeed!

@K0DA You will have to find time to continue to work on your hobbies. Its difficult while you are in training at A school. Just focus on passing and getting your job, But once you get your orders for your first duty station. You will be able todo whatever you want after your work hours. I'm a HM in a hospital. But after I'm done I am free todo what I want. Use your time wisely and stay motivated. Good luck in Boot!

Nicky is Corpsman low on advancement because of your green customers (Body Guards). Ok so contractors and Hazmat, is not great pay, i was both, best annual pay was $80k. That is not great

@@ERocko-xu4cx hey broski I’m on a new account but it’s a pretty simple job, personally I process parts as MATCON, but our job is mainly Inventory, pushing and receiving parts. We also get our own collateral jobs for instance I’m in charge of vehicles, a cool thing about being an LS we can pretty much go anywhere we want, it’s actually a great job dude and I’m loving it, you’ll be thankful for it, I see people bust ass everyday but they gotta still come to us to do there jobs and everyone is pretty cool to us since we have a lot of power.

I do not think the SEABEE actually get stationed at the U.S. Embassy, but they could be sent to the embassies to work on certain projects for a certain period of time. For enlisted Navy personnel, who are stationed at the embassies, I think the only available positions are people doing paperwork such as PN, YN, LS etc. (and enlisted Marines guard the embassies). One of the SEABEE Chiefs that I knew had gone to the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan to build the security gates, vehicle barriers, reinforcement of the walls etc. Another interesting thing about this Chief was that, he had been in the Navy for nearly 20 years (at the time) and had never seen the inside of a ship.

Jayruu. Times have moved on but OS rate remains the same. OS’s stand their watch at sea, in port they have almost nothing to do. Juniors clean, mid level check the cleaning and E6 and above are no where to be found. Short answer, if you enjoy the OS rate then this job more than practically any other is like winning the Navy lottery. Everyone I saw in the rate (even undesignated, striking for rate) ALL made E5 in less than 4 years time.

Its basically an aircraft group. Squadrons are the members and the aircraft themselves. They are primarily stationed at Naval Air Stations, and different squadrons can b attached to a ship . so you live on the Naval Air Station, but when its time for deployment, ur squadron will meet up with the ship and deploy.
