My adult son and I moved to st paul 5 Years ago. We live in the Como/Dale area. You're right about the crime. I think it's the unaddressed poverty and drug addiction that has people so desperate. I LOVE SAINT PAUL & will never go back to Wisc if I can help it. As a state, MN is miles ahead.

High property taxs, and another 1.9% fee on purchases in St. Paul. Don't expect the streets to be plowed in the winter.

I was born on the east side, was raised there, moved to the suburbs of Minneapolis then moved to cottage Grove and spent a lot of time between there and Woodbury. I left Minnesota 3 years ago for very good reasons, crime, high taxes, leftist bull crap. I only go there if I have to because my family all still lives there. Leaving Minnesota was the best decision I ever made for me and my family.

Honestly, if one has no family ties to the area (twin cities), why would one move there? For the great weather and low taxes?

3 million people are too broke and scared of moving? Seems like a poor generalization. I didnt like being close to the metro so I moved in 2020, and lots have ppl have also done so. But, there are many people that love what the Twin cities has to offer. I know that because I work with them every day.

I love the state, but in the recent years, it has become too costly to live on with a fixed retired income with the increase in property tax and HOA costs going through the roof. I chose to move to Wisconsin, just across the state line. I am close enough to Minnesota to enjoy a trip for some weekend fun and recreation, but budget-wise, I had to move. The cost of living with property tax and HOA fees are half of what it was in Minnesota.

It is NOT dangerous. Every city has area that are a little worse than others. I live in what would be considered a "bad" area and frankly it is very safe. Saint Paul; has it issues but over all is a terrific place to live.

Interesting. Care to say how long ago this was? I find the area between Dale and Lexington north of Como to be a very nice area and definitely seems to be on the upswing from my perspective. I honestly think this area is an undervalued area. Although, just like in any big city, there is the chance that you end up living near that ONE house that causes problems for the entire block. Those houses can make a neighborhood for anyone living in the proximity unpleasant.

Worth about $210k now give or take (not that we ever plan to sell) About 2 years ago, a new home was built on 3rd near Cypress, squeezed in between two older homes. Beautiful inside, but still on the market...asking $360k! Nobody who can afford that would likely choose E St Paul.

I live in south Minneapolis and have worked in St. Paul schools and the schools are toxic and dysfunctional. The people in St. Paul are very unfriendly, stand-offish, and only socialize in their own cliques. I dislike St. Paul. The student behaviors are very bad and the district does not do anything to correct it. In fact, they stopped suspending students from school so improve their numbers. The administrators love to denigrate teachers and write them up for the smallest infraction. It is not a healthy environment.

St Paul is pretty diverse. I live on the east side. Many Hmong families (Vietnamese refugees from the 70s) reside here and live generationally. Otherwise, a pretty even mix of black and white. I think we're the only white family on the block. All the neighbors I know are nice and helpful and we watch our neighborhood.
