A quick tip on your key fob and dangling wires under the car (I guess this harness is used to bypass an immobilizer). After removing the key housing you will find an IR diode at the top of the circuit board. Those diodes usually have problems with cold solder joints, everything you have to do is to re-solder them. After that your remote door control and immobilizer should work fine without any bypassing.

When Tyler drove the Jag I knew he would be impressed (having never driven on before) because I have always said "nothing drives like a Jag sedan" from the 80's, 90's and early 2000. They drive beautifully....but can be a maintenance headache. My general rule has always been: do the repair....do it right....and enjoy the result. Short-cuts often lead somewhere you don't want to go. The most difficult part of owning a Jag is.......finding a good mechanic that you can trust.

My experience has been it's better to "over pay" for a better used car. Had Hoovie bought a really nice S600, it would probably be about the same as whatever this will cost in repairs. Plus it would be in better cosmetic shape and he'd actually get to drive and enjoy it and instead of sitting in a mechanic bay for the next several months. But this show is mostly about how painful these cars can be to save us from ourselves.

You lower the antenna with a button inside the center console. Because of the built-in phone needing to maintain connection to the network (which it can’t now become it’s too old), the antenna will not lower even if you turn off the radio; you have to use the button.

@@MCMonsterbuilder Well he definitely gives Hoovie a discount. They do so much business together and know each other so well. That's what I was saying about the antenna. I did the exact same thing on my 99 S500 and my mechanic (Who I do also know through a car club) charged $160. I COULD have bought a 600, but I decided against it for a few reasons. 1. I do prefer V8 sounds more, even if I already have two. 2. The maintenance cost is much higher than it is with the 500. 3. It isn't really worth spending for the extra power, since according to specs the 600 would still be my slowest car and speed isn't really the point of these so much. But that doesn't mean I don't still want one, lol.

I feel you on the "dealership didn't disclose", picked up a '65 Volvo P1800 recently from back east, had it shipped out, so far spent well over a grand or so in parts and such because of how hacked up the wiring harness is and a laundry list of things that the dealer didn't disclose despite my asking them the condition of the vehicle. The damn muffler is hanging by a coat hanger. Ah well, body and other 'most important' stuff is in good shape, so ahead there, but I bought a project when I paid for a driving vehicle.

The Klimatronic console is similar to a CLK W/A208. A suggestion, with a plastic tool it is easy to pop out the button which will reveal a space for the red LED and the remaining structure (plastic) which presses on the tubular like button. With the same plastic tool or another which will fit, attempt to press the button and see if the Klimatronic panel shows a higher temperature for the passenger. If it does then it's the plastic cover which broke. Common to happen on these units and people tend to replace the whole unit for something which can have a quick and cheap repair - oppose to a good condition unit. That's how I find my unit is working correctly but the physical plastic cover underneath the operational cover buttons (visible icons) is the failure point. Possibly due to exposure of heat cycles from the firewall and interior temperatures. Some LEDs might be dead and that I haven't fully disassembled the unit to confirm how to replace (probably solder). Quite curious if the Wizard already knows a fix or was able to find if those plastic covers are replaceable (even if they aren't OEm - doubt Mercedes still has stock, or even if they had it produced as a replaceable part).

You can find those OEM coils on parts sites for $42 each, not $100 as quoted. Across 12 coils that's $700 of the bill that would have been saved doing one minute of research. It's Bosch 00101. I'll never understand why indie guys don't do this, except that they're just pocketing the difference for easy cash.
