Hey Hoovie! My grandpa had one of these, original owner for 10 years. He sold it on in 2017 or 2018, something like that. It had maybe 60k on it then. He had this exact spec! With speaking to family and some online research, he had a 2008 GT500 in Vapor Silver with Ebony stripes (this color). He insisted on getting the stripe deleted and so did this one! The more I look into it, the more likely it is that this is his car! They only made 930 of these, including all the ones with the stripes on top! I wish there was a way to confirm tho lol. Hey Hoovie, FYI that is definitely not a factory suspension. The blue parts (lowering springs and sway bars) are Ford Performance aftermarket parts. The panhard bar appears to be Steeda and is adjustable to make up for axle moving slightly as a result of the lowering. The shocks/struts are red and that has me thinking they might be Pedders units. All in all, not a bad setup. Change out those bushings and the motor mounts and consider some rear control arm relocation brackets and maybe even new rear lower control arms and you will have a good handling setup that launches well with all that power…pretty good for that car for not much money.
@newfie-dean5803
3 ай бұрын
The blue springs are probably Roush or Ford Performance. I’d put Bilstein shocks and struts on it. Those are great and were used on the 03-04 Cobra Terminators from the factory.

I had a 2006 GT in remarkably good shape with 134,000 miles on it. No smoke out the exhaust. I’m a Mopar guy, but I thought I would try out the dark side. Despite the axle, it was a great car, easy to work on with a big aftermarket. I slapped in a Borla axle back system and had one of the best exhaust sounds in acceleration. The only thing I didn’t like about the 4.6 was the spark plugs. Broke 2 pulling them. Spent $100 on special tools to remove the broken plugs. Overall a fun car as long as you aren’t near crowds of people

I replaced plugs, the ones I put in, I used some nickel antisieze around the smooth base of the plug, NOT the threads. It’s not the thread that seize, it’s the long electrode tip that seizes with carbon buildup. I also replaced the coils, throttle body and injectors. Be careful and gentle with the plastic electrical connections on the injectors, they get brittle. That is my limited experience working on the Mustang. There are a lot of more knowledgeable people and videos out there.

Recommendations for Mods from a Mustang Enthusiats. 3.73 Axle Ratio with a good LSD. I personally like an Eaton Posi, my buddy likes the Detroit Tru-Trac. 1-pc Aluminum driveshaft. McLeod RXT Clutch + Flywheel, It'll take some serious abuse. Anything from VMP related to Cooling. BMR everything for the rear (control arms, drop bracket, panhard bar, upper arm etc). And then a nice suspension kit (shocks/strut/springs/sway bar) GET IT AS A KIT so the springs match the sway bar and the shock/strut travel. You can squeeze 285s square on those Shelby without mods (not even wheels). with a 10" wide rim and a space rup front, 305 wide. Thats the trick to get these to handle well. Stiff suspension, lots of tire, good LSD.

I have an 07 3v with similar miles. The evap systems on them all do the same thing and immediately guessed it before wizard even looked for the code. Between the fill neck or the canister connections - its inevitable that they leak in some way on these, usually not just the gas cap. Its annoying too because the gas tank is all tucked up in there pretty tight. Also look really close into front corner of the driver side rear wheel well. It rusts there pretty normally and stays well hidden until its already done its damage. Its hard to spot because you have to pop the skirt off to see if there's anything going on. I think a drain gets clogged...

Nice Cutlass convertible! I had a 91 Cutlass Supreme International with the same color scheme and wheels. Mine wasn't a convertible, but was was very, very rare with the 3.4 DOHC v6 and Getrag HM-284 5 speed manual transmission. It had quad leather buckets, digital dash, H.U.D. it was one of 109 made that year with the 3.4-5 speed combo. They made less than 500 3.4 -5 speed w bodies in a 2 year run between the z34, grand prix, and Cutlass. 91 and 92, there was one 93 GP made with the combo, but no others.
You got such a steak on that GT500. Can't wait to see all of the other Hoopties cruising around too!!!
Love the content! As someone that has owned one for 6 years with 700whp. It’s not the solid axle that makes them crash, you can find videos of the irs gt350 crashing as well. But more the rear brakes, they are the same size as the v6 so stopping power is very weak on these cars
