Follow and find my true happiness which is creating content, helping others and finding a way to combine it all - knowing that there are no 'major obstacles' to worry about such as the mortgage. And ultimately 'giving' is my driving force - so do that to the max, in whatever capacity I can.

Same. If one really enjoys the personality of a content creator (or anyone, actually) they would watch/ read / listen to any format. For example, the best thing I watched this fall is @KaraandNate biking across America 6-part series 4 hours long 😂. A long-time huge fan, so I watch everything. Same with Ali. It's like talking (in our case listening) to a friend for hours. Best thing!

I second this! This video is different because it feels like listening to a friend and not necessarily learning from a teacher. A different way of connection, more personal. And also for me it's interesting to hear how people think when they are on a higher level when basic financial needs are met. Still learning a lot about life from casual talking videos like this.

I was going to say the same actually. It’s refreshing. When I heard Ali say in a Huel ad that he uses Huel because he doesn’t have time to make a healthy meal I was like “Whaaat??! All this productivity and you don’t have time to make a healthy meal?.” 🤯 With this video Ali you’ve redeemed yourself. The internet needs more of your new way of thinking 😊🎉

Bravo, sir. True wealth is closing the gap between what you want and what you have. Most people don't realize that cuts both ways. It's not just about having all the stuff you want, but it's also about not having stuff you realize you don't want. Enjoy the travels!

Very true, Mark. I'm watching your "What nobody tells you about getting rich" video next. In my life I've been dirt poor as a graduate student and comfortably middle class, and I can honestly say there are times when I miss my dirt poor days. Adjusting to new money means noting how our expectations and habits change too, and remembering to prioritize what is most important to us.

Mind craving (problem solving what other people surfers, an emotion connection/relation with other people's pain, understanding, wisdom sharing). Another from of dopamine. Yes!!!! 100% this! The first thing anyone should when they get money is ask themselves what can I get rid of? (Debt, mortgage, job you hate, etc) what do I NEED to immediately improve my quality of life? How do I protect my future (property, pensions, insurance, etc? Then, what fun things do I want? The problem is a lot of people skip the first 3 steps and go straight to the fun stuff!

I love how raw and unscripted this was. An accumulation of all your hard work, knowledge, and wisdom and being vulnerable out there. No flashy editing, no overly-structured (though very appreciated in other videos), no biases (sponsorships). The constant life questions he gets to himself, though he doesn’t have the true answers, he, through experiences, comes up with his own conclusions. Best video thus far.

It feels good to see you reconnect with yourself again. As a longtime viewer, I've always seen your thirst and ambition for money and success as inspiring, but also somehow self imprisoning. Nobody has all the answers figured out. But I've felt your hyper focus on productivity and output ever since you went full-time with KZread change your overall energy and demeanor. Somehow in this video, I'm seeing the flicker of light in your eyes again of a man who is realizing what's really important. Of someone who wants to be genuine and is in touch with his mortality and the mortality of those around him. This has ironically been my favorite video of yours in years for this reason. I can tell you are beginning to recognize the ways you tether your identity and ego to the things you've achieved, and are in the process of letting that go in favor of the things that actually matter. Would you still love Ali Abdaal even if he never went to med school, had a big KZread channel, or any of the other things? I sure hope so: because we would still love that person, too. Best of luck to you on this journey, and to everyone paddling along in life.

I, of course, have a need for sustainability in my life, and goals and needs, but your words and practical approach to where we are headed and the one life we've got has inspired me to allow myself the tools I need to make it happen, but also to let go of the things I accumulate that drag me down mentally. Deeply inspired for a strong 2024. Thanks a lot, Ali.

"Many people forget that the goal is not money, but to spend your day as you wish." Very genuine video. Watched from start to finish and I must say, I highly appreciate you and your authenticity. It's funny because as out of the ordinary as this video seems, this zoom out and refocus is so relatable and recognizable from every creator, yet no one sees the value in addressing it this transparently. Very admirable of you to not only disregard the fear of potentially losing viewers by announcing you're stepping back, but also recognizing the value of honesty and actually just changing your viewers expectations so that they always receive exactly what they expected. 👏 From a forever subscriber. Love your content!!

So much value in this video - and I relate to many of the points you make. KZread is an amazing platform, but as soon as it turns into a 'job' where you have to work all hours to create new videos, it means you are not actually living on your own terms. My mentality is that I didn't leave a 9 to 5 in order to replace it with a 9 to 5 KZread channel. As you say, KZread is amazing when you can do it PART TIME - and so with my channel, courses and business, I've set them up so that they can function without me running them 24/7. Sure I'd be making a lot more money if I posted once per week, but posting once per month has allowed me to live life on my terms, travel the world (like yourself I travel around 9 months of the year) and appreciate the world we live in. As you say, its okay to leave money on the table; you can always make more money but you can't get back your time. For me, I like to spend my time travelling, meeting people and exploring the world. Thats worth much more than extra $$$ per year. Really glad to see that you are on a similar wavelength and excited to see where your travels take you :)

Watched this video to the end as I always do! Love them so much as it gives me a lot of insight into your own thoughts but also gives me a chance to reflect on myself. The relief I felt when I finished medical school and told myself I’m going to make my videos on my own terms, when I feel like it, and leave money on the table, was huge. I’ve had more time for my relationships, friends and family, and maybe most importantly myself. It sounds like you’ve reached a similar conclusion and I’m really happy for you man. Your content is amazing and I love it, but it usually gets added to my “Watch Later” list (because I know there’s value and things to learn there) vs just stopping me in my tracks and pulling me in and making me feel connected on a basic human level. *This* right here is why I follow you. I also just finished watching your 44 minute video about your decision to change your life focus. I am so happy for you for digging down deep within yourself and realizing what really matters and taking actions on living that truth. I plan on meeting you face to face one day. Please let me know if you're going to be in the USA in 2024. By the way....your book is going to be on the New York Times Bestsellers Book List. I can see it even going beyond what you can ever imagine in sales. You are open and honest and that is what this world always need more of. Someone like you who cares and delivers to people like me that needs what you give. I look forward to hopefully becoming a part of your community. The is raw Ali Abdaal being Ali Abdaal. Everything you said is correct. I rarely get past 5 minutes of a video, but this one… this one I watched until the very end. Unscripted, honest, and deeply personal. I can sense that you still have doubts, and it wouldn’t be natural if you didn’t. “Leaving money on the table” is scary when we live in a culture that focuses on wealth and material things. You have sold all your belongings and there is no turning back. Explore the world, explore yourself. Let the pressure to perform consistently go and I am certain anything that you create here on out will be more fulfilling for you and beneficial to others than anything you have created in the last 7 years. Looking forward to seeing where you land after Tulum :)

“You’ll be happy once you get there.” This quote relate to me so much because it really keeps our eyes focused on the price we seek at the end rather than enjoying the ride to get there. Why can’t we give ourselves permission to breathe and experience how life just beautifully unfolds in front of us? It’s crazy that in the end of it all, we all have our own path to pursuit of happiness and it’s never really about the money. Thanks Ali! 👏

Thank you for putting your heart and thoughts on your sleeve and can’t wait to see more and support your spiritual and emotional journey 🤍

I'm a full time software engineer who is now trying to do part time content creation. All your videos around productivity were helpful and this new authentic new is even more helpful! We always chase for success and having a huge passive income but now I think, do i really need more income? Why should I create content, just for money or becuase to add value to people's lives or just for satisfaction of getting attention or just for algorithm or simply this what I think I should do now and it makes me happy? Maybe it is some combination of these questions. Thanks again for being authentic in these times of hustle culture, big fan!

You know what Ali? This video comes as a surprise to me. I have seen one of your video where you were contemplating between moving to Dubai for tax benefits. And you came to the conclusion that no even if you have to pay more taxes in UK you would do so. I thought that was very mature of you. Seeing you talking in this video showed me a different side of you. It showed me that every one is vulnerable. Huge respect mate.

🌸The concept of human identity spiritually often involves exploring one's purpose, values, and connection to something greater than oneself. It varies across belief systems, encompassing notions of soul, consciousness, and a search for meaning in existence.🦋 I don't know how, but with in one year, Ali you became my idol in this.... I want to make good content that helps people, but without jumping through the "rules" and "hoops" our society has created. I enjoyed watching you process and would love to see your updates as you live out this experiment. The big question: Is the juice worth the squeeze? comes to mind. Blessings!

Ali, thank you so much for posting this video, please post more videos like this! This video resonated with me more than any other video of yours. When watching this video, I was blown away by how your realizations and thoughts were so relevant to the things I’ve been thinking through recently (but you articulate them so much better than I do haha). I’m on a similar journey in finding fulfillment in life. When I started my full time job as a software engineer after college, I thought it was going to bring me money AND enjoyment because I’ve always enjoyed building things with code for fun, but this time I’d be getting paid to do what I love. Fast forward 2 years, I realized I didn’t enjoy my job partly because I was leaving my health, youth, family, friends, and the rest of my life on the table for my job (and money). So I quit my job (nearly 6 months ago now), and a few months later, I started my KZread channel. I’m not financially free nor am I anywhere near where you were when you quit your job to pursue KZread full-time. However, in these last 6 months, I left money on the table in exchange for rebuilding my health, cherishing relationships and building new ones, and most important of all, I’m finally putting myself first. I feel so much happier, healthier, and the enjoyment I get from building things with code expanded. This time it’s not just with code, it’s building my KZread channel and my life. I already feel like this decision has changed my perspective on life, and it was well worth it. For now, I am doing KZread on my own terms - enjoying the journey, documenting my life, and sharing what I learn along the way instead of making it a full time job. While it’s probably not the optimal path for growing, I think it’s my path towards longevity. I’m going to post a video about why I quit my job and what I’m going to do next because I will eventually have to do the thing that will make money to sustain my needs and future, but I believe I can find something that will also bring me enjoyment in life. Again, thank you for making this video - I hope there will be more like it. Safe travels and best of luck!
