The best part of your videos is when you are talking in the kitchen in front of your back window and you lift Roxy up and show her beautiful face 🥰 she is the cutest dog. I remember the day you first got her and she was on the window looking out after her foster mum left. You are so lucky to have her 😊

Putting a trellis and some climbers on that retaining wall would look beautiful! I will warn you though that, if you choose to move that existing plant, you will have to cut it back quite a bit. It's not even so much about the logistics of moving it, it is more about the shock a plant experiences when you move it. Even if you're careful to take a very large root ball, that plant will be shocked by being cut out of the ground and moved. You will need to cut it back quite a bit in order to give that plant a chance to establish itself in its new spot (and avoid it going into shock and dying). The plant won't be able to support that much foliage with a smaller and unestablished root ball. I hope that makes sense. If you do opt to cut it back and move it, you can take those cuttings and propagate them, to make lots of new baby plans! Good luck!

the plant on the trellis is beautiful, maybe just trim it back quite a bit...your trellises are beautiful where they are.....for disguising the timbers you can plant a clinging vine such as virginia creeper or boston ivy....they lose their leaves in winter which will be good and will not let the timbers rot if say you civered with english ivy, which is evergreen......you're garden and patio are beautiful!.....

I love an early, early spring/lat winter trip to the garden center. After so much grey all winter, just to see green really lifts my soul. Most mornings, I make vegies. Some I have with breakfast, and the rest I save for when I come home later in the day and don't feel like cooking. It really helps me to eat better, over all.

Woodchips might be better in your garden. If you lay it down on top of garden tarp which lets the rain seep through, it limits the weeds and you can use it as compost when it has broken down enough after a few years. You then bring in new woodchips and start the cycle again. Gravel is forever but hard on your feet if you walk barefoot on it and not as « visually soft ». I guess it depends on which aesthetics you prefer.

Looks like you guys had a productive week. I like how you're approaching your new resolution for this yr, slower with balance. I don't know how much of Charles Dowding you've seen, I've been watching him forever. Something else he does when he succession sows, he just twists the spent veg off the root. Those purple flowers...muscari...aka grape hyacinth bulbs...they would look really nice planted in your garden across the house, they probably won't be in bloom too much longer, just thinking come next spring they would be lovely.

You should lean the trellis against the wood so the vine can reattach itself. Then trim off the parts that are still attached to the trellis. It will take a while but i think it would cause the least damage to the plant, good luck!

This hit. In the name of "taking care of myself" I have added supplements that I feel are now causing problems, so it's back to basics for me. Thank you for the reminder that good proper nutrition is the ultimate goal. The rain! It's been pouring rain here in New England as well... we've had a few very wet years. I'm just glad it's not snow because I need sunshine and warm temperatures! Maddie, your outfits throughout are so adorable. Love the gardening ensemble! As for the garden, I think moving the entire trellis might solve your issue. It might not be what you ultimtely want, but if you want to save the plant I'd give it a go. As far as garden paths go, you can use cardboard to stamp out the weeds and then put whatever material you'd like over it. My garden is much smaller but I'm doing that myself and then adding more organic soil on top because I love the look and I like to walk barefoot through the garden. Good luck! (All shenanigans welcomed by Alex.)

I would cover the sleepers with new clematis, I have a clematis 'Montana' by my front door, it smells of vanilla, it's pale pink, it's absolutely beautiful and fast growing. Enjoy your content and how you are coping with your mental health. I have struggled past few years and just when I’m feeling as if the cloud is lifting and I feel like I can get through this, for no apparent reason I start sinking again. Just my way of describing it! The last three months have been very low but seeing you bounce back and focusing on different projects is encouraging. I respect your honesty. I just wish people understood how hard it is to do the simplest of tasks when ones’s mental health takes a dip! So many unfinished jobs and projects to complete since we had to move nearly three years ago. Make a list of what to do and abandon it after a couple of items as no energy or motivation. I find it inspiring that you admit to having low days and give yourself the grace to rest, read etc. I want to try Alex’s bread recipe and did do some healthy cooking today so that’s a start! Thank you!

When you do replace your shed, I recommend getting one big enough to store your outdoor furniture in Winter. It will last so much longer. I think moving the trellis along the wall will look great. You could also use some by the hot tub to create more privacy. Try limelight hydrangeas by the house. They can take more light and heat. Currently enjoying your book 😊

The terrace looks fab! ~ so love the colour of the stone paviours with the textured granite edging. If it were mine, I'd line the edges of the flower beds below windows (adjacent to paving) with matching but shallower/narrower/lighter-weight granite border slabs just cemented in at the same level, which would make those beds easier to maintain (less deep). Re: the clematis...I would go for it and chance moving the whole lot intact with sections of trellis. I'd say it's a 4 person job as main stems can be brittle. For trellis attachment to the sleeper retaining walls, fix some basic battens at 1ft intervals horizontally, and the trellis can be screwed straight on. Whatever you decide...good luck! :)

I need to put down something between my raised beds as well but I'm going to use woodchips as I don't want the work of building a rim (barrier) to keep the gravel in place and I prefer the softness of the wood. But I have family that did gravel and they love it.

For the hot tub, hydrogen peroxide works wonders on mold and mildew, particularly with a little elbow grease. You might need quite a lot to clean that much surface, but I swear by it. It also won't harm your grass, as it breaks down into plain water pretty quickly. The clematis needs to be cut back to about a meter long if you want to transplant it, as the full plant can't survive a transplanting. The best time for transplanting is before spring hits, when it's still dormant. Which is to say, if you want to move it, either do it ASAP (in which case it may or may not survive) or else wait on that section until next winter.

Ferns like to be watered frequently and don’t do well in heat, if your fern was near the argar that may have caused it to die, bathrooms are the best place for them, as they love the damp, water once a week in winter twice in summer

Don't worry about killing roses by transplanting them. They are extremely tough that way. The only way to kill a rose is to 1) not water it all all or 2) not feed it enough - OK even that won't kill it,but merely stunt it seriously. Look it up for your area, but here the best time to transplant a rose is early spring.
