The Optimax Oil tanks are known to go bad. There is a float in the tank that has a magnet. The magnet comes loose and it will not register. Easy fix is change the tank.

This exact thing happened to my tourney partner. Tank float had a bad spot in it. Had to replace the entire tank because the float sensor is built in. He put a new one in and good to go.

Had the exact same happen to my 01 200. Ordered a new oem replacement and good to go. One thing is use Mercury zip ties to the lines. Not sure why but everyone recommends those for no leaks.

If the beeping still happened after you trimmed the motor down, then find the oil tank sensor and short to two wires together to see if the beeping stops. If so then you have a bad sensor. Or unhook the sensor and see if beeping stops. Mercury could have the sensor wired to be naturally open or closed.

A heat gun used properly will bring back the colors of the ABS PLASTICS. Another option is to clean it with automotive lacquer thinner until sticky and repaint with automotive interior dash paint. Check will a reputable upholstery shop or body shop. You could just buy a new dash skin cover and be done. Thanks for sharing. On gages I prefer fluid filled marine gages. They don't vibrate when running. They cost more, but are worth it. 🍺🎣

Make sure you check your compressor strainer. Take off the lower cowlings, it’s going to be on the port or starboard side. It will have a water hose going to it.

I have seen those oil tanks be full and cause an alarm because the float inside has malfunctioned. The best fix for that is a new oil tank. Trying to repair the floats in the ones I’ve seen is not really worth the headache.

Good video. Tip for you is to make up some wire leads with small alligator clips on them. you can use those when trouble shooting. I have a couple of different lengths hanging on workbench when needed

Very interested learning how you diagnose the gauges and get them working. Did you pull all the gauges from bass cat and move to stratos? Did you try to crank over the motor to see if tach read rpm’s? My tach pegs out with power but no readings - 1995 Mariner 40hp.

That alarm was because you had the motor trimmed up. Should go away when you have it down. Only worry about it if it keeps going off when you have the motor down.

I wouldn’t bother with a speedometer. They are never accurate on boats. The best way to gauge speed is to get a graph with gps at the council. Or with a phone app. But an old one will look bad with new ones. Just get a cheap one lol

You didn’t purge the air in the engine tank when you filled it back up, did you? If not, it will beep when full. Or it’s the magnetic senator like everyone said. I’ve seen both.

From my understanding 4 beeps could also mean water in fuel or vst so you may need to drain the fuel out of the bowl on vst and change filters ok motor if it has some.

There is a magnet at the bottom of the tank, whenever the oil gets really low then the magnet will get stuck and the alarm will go off. The easiest fix is just to replace the oil tanks

The correct theology is like these other people are saying in replacing the float sensor or pump. My theory has been remove it, bypass it, and run the gas with the oil in it 😂. But that’s not always correct theology and I’ve done this on older motors not a newer one such as that one
