I think what makes it so compelling and hard to watch is that in many ways, the stakes of an accusation like that are on the level of death, which is typically the highest stake in film. Career, friends, respect, and freedom all gone instantly is as scary as death, but even more relateable because this really could happen to anyone.

Love ur monthly recaps.. we definitely have the same taste in movies. I often tell ppl the only thing more boring than watching grass grow is watching a movie where everything works out in the end, everyone goes home happy, and the world is left in a perfect state. Life is messy, love is messy, family is messy, everything is messy. If u want a fairy tale go watch a Disney movie lol Beauty is in truth and in the embracing of life as is. I’m reminded of a quote in Alfonso Cuarons “Y Tu Mama Tambien” (fully recommend if u haven’t seen it)…. Life is like the surf, so give yourself away like the sea. We can’t control the ocean, the surf, all we can do is acknowledge its immense power and enjoy the moments we are gifted, bumps and all. Thank you for ur videos, they certainly add one of those waves in the surf of life, good entertainment, honest opinions, and a person who is passionate about something in this life, and u can’t help but find it a tiny bit infectious at times!

Cool, I watched Ghostwatch this month as well, hadn't heard of it. I saw it mentioned with regards Late Night With the Devil. Made me miss Parky. A good Mads Mikkelsen film to try is Adam's Apples. Not a horror, it's difficult to describe for me really, the tone, it's more of a comedy. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The Danes make such good films and watching that film really highlighted that gap in my knowledge, which still exists to be honest, but I have seen quite a few more since.

The each episode range from horror, thriller, drama, comedy, found footage, that's just a small selection of genres mentioned. It stars Steve Pemberton & Reece Sheersmith who write & star in each episode, creators of Psychoville & co-creators of The League of Gentlemen.

In Hereditary, at the end in the tree house, it’s reminiscent of the nativity scene but the hell version in a sense. Also, the muffled noises in the opening credits is likely from the followers of Paimon chanting. These are some things I noticed when I rewatched it. That mysterious breath outside may also be from his vigilante followers.

Oh man, I wish I had liked The Watchers more than I did -- and I went in *hoping* for some fantasy horror. (SPOILERS) I didn't like how the creatures were used -- they basically just became generic vampires by the end even though ofc it's not a vampire film. And I didn't think the final twist really made any sense, given what we see about the characters beforehand. And I thought the acting was atrocious, particularly Daniel.

@@isabellamorris7902yeah it was pretty middle of the road for me. I think I rated it a 3 on letterboxd. I never read the book but one thing I took away from the movie was that I could see it working better as a mystery box style tv show. Flesh out the characters and the mystery more. The movie actually has quite a few similarities to a show that already exists called From.

@@TheDukeOfReuben I think it is probably a really good, arresting book with a great concept that has been adapted very poorly.

I never comment but hey! I'd already read The Watchers before I watched the movie. I HATED the book. Like 4/10 being generous but I gave the movie 8/10 haha!

The Watchers. Seen that movie hundreds of times. You should 100% watch In a violent Nature even if you end up not liking it. It was a great effort. Pontypool is so good. Miracle Mile was awesome. Also, I watched Hereditary and didn't like it. Maybe, if I'd seen it in 2018, but I found that women annoying as hell😏

gotta be careful when talking about "reality" tv shows. They are not actually reality, none of them are. The reason for that is that there is a conflict of interest between entertainment and reality. As we all know, reality is actually quite boring a lot of the time. Unfortunately a tv show can't afford to have this occur, so almost nothing about a reality show is reality. They would not allow an entire episode to be non-entertaining, so they infuse drama, they force people to discuss things they otherwise wouldn't. So especially when a show is involving people with potential mental health issues, you should just be a little careful just straight up calling it a reality show. I know that's what it's considered, but it's just not accurate. TV producers aren't going to just stomach a stretch where they go multiple episodes with nothing particularly interesting happening. So in order to make money and bring attention they are going to lie and manipulate the show so that it IS entertaining no matter what. I know you don't mean anything malicious by calling it a reality show, I guess I'm just a little concerned that more and more of the population seems to genuinely think that it's just a house where they place cameras around and that's all of the manipulation that occurs. There are meetings, there are discussions about what to talk about and when. There are certainly times where the producers tell the participants what to do, how to do it and the only reason I know that is because of money. No one is going to be so into the art of a reality show that they are going to risk NOT garnering the audience's attention just to make a piece of art. Therefore, it's basically all fake or heavily heavily manipulated and some reality shows are just downright scripted. I'm sure this is a little more raw than something like the Bachelor, which is just completely a foregone conclusion and they just make every decision to get the most viewers, but it's still nowhere near actual reality.

Hey I’m not sure if you know this but I worked in tv for 10 years and I can tell you most people know how over produced reality tv is. I think the issue would be calling it a documentary, it’s not problematic to call it the genre title we all use. It’s literally the label it goes by, just to explain the format.
