Here for an Anxiety Horror list! I loved Mother but can't watch it again.
@dizzy_star
Ай бұрын
I second this with all my heart! I swore to never watch it again despite loving it so much but then I showed it to my husband recently and loved it even more. It is so so uncomfortable but beautiful and heartbreaking.
I LOVE Heartbreak High, and I'm from the US! It really stands out to me against other teen shows because it has this perfect balance of humor and real, raw issues that teens go through without feeling too over the top or cheesy. The characters are all so complex, and the diversity is so great. I love everything about it! I'm glad we get one more season!
She's back,safe and sound! 😊
Please do an anxiety cinema list! Uncut Gems filled me with a lot of anxiety. Same with Irreversible. This isn’t a horror, but Shiva Baby is so anxiety inducing. 😂

Beau is Afraid is a big one lol
Hey Emma! I grew up with Ferngully as well! I still love it. Waiting for my niece and nephew to be old enough for Hexus to not traumatise them! Can't wait to show them. 😊
Oh my goodness throwback! I saw Deranged in the movie theater with my mother when I was eight years old! 1974! I still remember I was a little horrified, but I think that might’ve been one of the moments of bringing me into horror. I used to also watch creature feature with her on Friday nights. Boundaries were kind of an issue.😂
I'm glad you enjoyed "Monster" so much. It's so good! In terms of "anxiety" movies, "Kotoko" (2011) would qualify.
@anonymoushumanhi

I was introduced to Kotoko from this channel and it was really solid! Very anxiety-inducing.
Love Heartbreak High, so much to learn about it, and it really makes me want to go to Australia. But also the lead actress being brown really somehow makes it sooo...idk...relatable, I suppose? Not actually, just that despite it's Australianisms, it's got something for everybody!
For some reason we used to get a lot of Australian kids' shows in the Netherlands when I was growing up, including the OG Heartbreak High which I LOVED. I have no idea why we had so many Australian shows but because of that it kind of feels like home to me (even though it's really quite different from growing up in the Netherlands), including the lingo. I think the reboot is fantastic and can't wait to see season 2. I just think it's so delightful and actually funny and the way they did the sensory overload episode with Quinn in season 1 was just perfect. I'd never really seen my own experience conveyed so well.
The plots developments... With most precision and sympathy of the all youtube! Emma you have the magic! I love your giggles, when chat of movies with us.👏👏👏
Unrelated question, Emma are you going to see Furiosa Mad Max Saga this week? Its the biggest Australian Action movie franchise of all time. So happy George Miller is back.

I watched, “The Coffee Table” yesterday because Stephen King recommended it on Twitter in mid-may. He said that it’s probably the darkest movie most people will ever see and also sort of funny. So I had to watch it. I’m so glad I saw the movie before I knew any details. It was wilddd, but not for everyone

he 'disturbing' things in the film are handled tastefully, it isn't gratuitous or overtly gory. I think people probably connect with the ramped up anxiety of the film being the real 'horror', but I found it funny...

@@TheBrownLamb The story that unfolds after the event is what the movie is focused on. I didn’t find it too disturbing because it was handled tastefully (as someone else mentioned). You actually hear it happen rather than see it happen, at which point I remember saying, “uh oh” aloud. It’s a quirky movie and upon reflection, I liked it more than when I first wrote about it above.
I’m from England and loveeee heartbreak high. It reminds me of sex education which is a show on Netflix based in the uk but I prefer heartbreak high because of how gritty it gets even with the comedy throughout. I understood everything that was going on really well and am sooo excited for season 3
I always wondered where the rain forest was located in Ferngully. Had no idea it was in Australia! It was one of my favorite cartoon films as a kid.
Thanks for the video and for reminding me to rewatch The Perfection. I loved it when I saw it a couple of years ago. I also added Monster and The coffee table to my to watch-list. Have a great day!
Great video emma hope you have fun 😊
Megan Is Missing was really intense at the time. It's dated now but was an eye-opening one at the time.
Hooray for mention of the Honey Films! You should update the Letterboxd list with some of the titles that have come out over the years, or make a video ranking your favorites. I’m all about the horror films, but as you said, it’s good to change it up once in a while.
I watched Heartbreak High back in the 90s! in the UK
Love the idea of an anxiety horror movie list! Mother is phenomenal, and as someone who has severe anxiety everyday those types of films are somewhat comforting to me lol.
Thanks for telling me about Monster i haven't heard of it so I'm going to watch it and you've alao made me want watch The Coffee Table to see what everyone is talking about. Great monthly recap Please do an anxiety inducing horror movie list.

Anorher impressive list, Emma. I've seen Abigail (three times), Civil War, Wicked Little Letters, Immaculate, Challengers, I Heart Huckabees, BlackBerry, The Hitman in the last 4-6 weeks. Abigail is beyond hilarious and entertaining and The Hitman was so much better than what I was expecting.

I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS QUEEN
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HEARTBREAK HIGH, especially season 2! I am from the US. I grew up with shows like skins and the oc, as an adult i've enjoyed sex education and euphoria, and generally enjoy corny movies based on high school and teenagers stories/coming-of-age (old and new), but NOTHING compares to the genius that is heartbreak high. oddly enough i also relate to your watching habits generally. i am also obsessed with horror, not corny/mainstream possession/slasher horror like haunted houses/kids or gore-porn like saw, but more this weird, unique and disturbing/traumatizing flavors you also seem to watch and enjoy. i agree with almost all your takes on horror films. and at the same time i also love trashy reality tv, hahaha, mainly jersey shore and shitty romance reality tv.
Heartbreak High sounds more like My So Called Life
Love The Coffee Table. Got it on physical but haven’t rewatched it yet lol
Thank you for the coffee table recommendation! Also I don’t know if this has been released in Australia yet but I would love your thoughts on “In a violent nature”

Monster is so good. I'm seeing In A Violent Nature Saturday. BTW have you ever seen Wetlands?
Yo, the name is Batty The logic is erratic, Potato in a jacket, Toys in the attic, I rock and I ramble, My brain is scrambled, Rap like an animal but I'm a mammal Batty was always my favourite 😍
I think Old is up there with the best of M Night's movies. It just has the interesting idea that hooks you instantly.
About to give “Deranged” a go 👍🏼
I'm Canadian, and I absolutely love Heartbreak High. I'm probably not the demographic as well (I am 42), but I still love it. I wish it was around when I was a 16 year old closeted lesbian. It's super entertaining. I watch a lot of Australian stuff, so I do understand the lingo, but I'm sure that I missed a bit. I just finished watching season 2 of Them, on Amazon Prime. I would recommend both seasons.
I've added the Ashley Madison doc to my list. Lately I've been into the troubled teen industry docs, like The Program and Hell Camp. Devastating, but also well done docs.

The problem with Dead Girl is tonal. It seems like it has the tone of a 1980s boner comedy, but it's doesn't seem as if this was necessarily intentional on the part of the filmmakers. It's almost like they weren't competent enough to avoid it.

Read the plot synopsis for The Coffee Table, and I refuse to watch it, so I'll never get my answer, but how could something like that possibly be listed as a black comedy? There's nothing comedic about that premise at all, it's soul-crushing
@markbisson6166

The beginning is very comedic. Once the tragedy happens, its dark comedy aspect changes a lot, and it eventually evolves into a horrific experience. If you don’t think you can handle it, don’t. It makes you feel awful. Guilt and anxiety throughout.

So is the movie. Completely bleak, reliant on shock value and the movie itself feels completely half-assed. The acting, the dialogue, set pieces, all of it seems underbaked and unfinished. I saw it in Spanish too, so I don't think I missed any nuance from the script. I do not see at all the "comedy" aspect either.

Glad I'm not the one who thought Humane was a missed opportunity for a great film. I was so ready for a wide scale dystopian nightmare and the first act was really interesting, then the film just turns into a cat and mouse between very unrealistic characters and the main subject is just abandoned. The Coffee Table is such a simpler, more well made film. Can't say I enjoyed but it gave me the most anxiety watching a film recently. Humane just gave me boredom lol

I watched The Coffee Table yesterday. Thought it was awful, not really a horror film, more a black comedy. Once I realised it was a comedy, I found it a lot more enjoyable.
