I *highly* recommend reading Station Eleven as well for some fun intertextuality between that book and this one (I've yet to read the glass hotel but I didn't know that it ties in!)

wow, I hadn't actually heard the summary for The Sentence before and it sounds so interesting! probably won't pick it up for my first Louise Erdrich but I definitely think I want to try it at some point. ALSO YES TO THE FEELING OF ETERNAL 2020, my goodness oooh, I think you're selling me on Black Cake!! And yay for falling in love with Avatar as an adult!! that's what happened with me as well. Never watched it as a kid, saw it for the first time a few years ago, and loved it just as much

The real question here: If you were in the Avatar: TLA/Korra universe which bender group would you belong to? I think I'm definitely on Team Air Nomad.

I also really enjoyed Sea of Tranquility, and it's made me excited to read The Glass Hotel. I'm glad I'm not the only one who read them out of order, haha. I am so excited to read The Bread The Devil Knead - I bought the book ahead of the Women's Prize Winner announcement with full intentions on reading it in time for that, but to no-one's surprise I have yet to pick it up. Soon, though!

i love the idea of the country being “unnamed” in black cake. the book has been on my radar for a while and i love intergenerational stories so it’s only a matter of time until i read it this summer.

That’s so cool that you were able to speak with the author, and that she’s in your program! That’s so cool! I want to read the book w Bread in the title, The Sentence and Black Cake, based on your recs.

I’m also trying to read the shortlist for the Women’s Prize, but I started with Great Circle because I had access to the audiobook. It was a slog. I’m enjoying The Sentence so I’m happy to hear you liked it, and I just started the Island of Missing Trees, and it’s intriguing so far! Sorrow and Bliss sounds blah from the description, but I'm excited for Bread and Form and Emptiness. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the others you read. Station Eleven and The Glass Hotel are great, and the interconnections between the books is interesting so if you liked Sea of Tranquillity, I think you’ll like them.

Oh that's pretty cool! I didn't know all her books tie together like that, I'll read them! I also find GC to be a slog even though I'm enjoying it.

Have you read The Black Flamingo? It's a fantastic fiction book in which the main character struggles with his identity from a young age as he explores his sexuality and being mixed race, and he starts discovering himself through drag!

@@booksaremysociallife I really enjoyed it! It is entirely in verse and very easy to get through, it only took me a few hours to read.

i really want to read the ATLA comic eventually, but i started The Promise and just kept getting annoyed by how Aang and Katara talked to each other....(it was all the "sweetie"s)
