8:58 Just my Opinion, but I always felt like she chose this moment to finaly speak up against Ego and warn the Guardians is because in this moment, she felt, for the first time, what a parent loosing a child SHOULD feel. She witnessed Egos Emotions for so many years and through so many times that he killed offsprings and he probably NEVER felt as much as 0,0001% of the grief that Drax is feeling here. Imo that's why she decided to help them

The last time he says "aww no" just comes off as comedic to me idk why. Strong acting throughout that scene though.

I think the way Yondu says “because you’re _me_ “ gets me choked up every time because the whole monologue his tone has been somewhat condescending, sarcastic, and harsh, but the way his voice immediately softens when he says ‘me’ pulls at my heart- he isn’t attacking rocket, but they both know the only way to get closer to each other is to be brash and cold to show you’re not gonna be pushed around by the other (as rocket pushes away venerability at any cost) followed by some way of saying “I’m not going to hurt you, I know you’re already in pain.”

Drax: "You look exactly alike" Rocket: "ONE'S BLUE!" Gets me everytime... Even now XD

“Just a little bit of love reminds you how big and empty the hole inside of you is” hits a lot harder when you watch Guardians 3. Rocket is distant because the last time he had a semblance of a family, they were killed unjustly, and made him think that if he opens his heart again, the same thing would happen again.

"I ain't done nothin' right my whole damn life, rat. Let me have this one". Stuck real hard today, on my second viewing of the movie. Actually cried, lmao.

James Gunn delivers an emotional film full of character development and people online still bitch and moan. Do some jokes go on for too long? Sure, but the movie is still beautifully shot, well written, and emotional. There's a reason we all got emotional when Yondu died. That's good writing.

My small problem was the completely tone changing jokes that came after a really dramatic or sad scene, like something sad or bad or dramatic happens and you're really feeling it (they accomplished that, ugh) and then there comes Rocket with a funny (I'll give you that too) comment or something to say that completely pulls you out of your sort of sadness and go "oh haha yeah right oh rip wait what haha?", that really irritated me, but otherwise I also loved it, I really did. Juust a few things that bothered me like with pretty much every other film I've seen.

8:48 is such an underrated line by Drax. To me he's clearly referring to himself. He knows he's ugly, and he knows his wife loved him, so he knows that she loved him for who he is.

They are incredibly reclusive and mainly stick to themselves, they pretty much stay on their planet until they grow old and die, with Groot being one of the incredibly few exceptions, and they have a symbiotic relationship with the species that Rocket belongs to. Not earth raccoons, space raccoons that are sentient. Stupid, but it’s Marvel so they get a pass. Species X are barely documented, because they are literally living trees, and anyone who has visited their planet have not actually realized that the forests are alive. Literally every member of Species X utters the phrase "I am Groot." Every. Single. One. It’s not unique to Groot, it’s unique to Species X. However prolonged contact apparently allows the person to slowly understand what is being said, Rocket knows because he’s been with Groot for years, Star Lord and the others were around Groot for years and eventually learned to understand as well. Presumably the language would be added to an intergalactic language database at that point, and it is in Guardians of the Galaxy comics where it’s been over fifty years since Star Lord's Guardian group was formed. However, for the most part, the language is pretty much understood by very few members of different species.

"I know who you are boy, because you're me!" "Until everything is me." This shows the different perspectives of Yondu and Ego right there. Yondu sees himself in others, while Ego wants to force everything to be like him. It's someone who lives for and within the universe versus one who just wants to control it, a feeling person versus a utilitarian who just uses people. Quite powerful, and only just noticed it.

Piggybacking on your remark, but it's worth noting that Yondu is dissatisfied by the reflection he sees of himself in others, recognizing the flaws he shares with them and clearly understanding those flaws have harmed both himself and those he is/was close to. Polar opposite to Ego, naturally, who's entirely incapable of such reflection.

3:14 Notice how Ego lands his craft deliberately flattening those trees so that the door is facing the Guardians, when he could've rotated 90 degrees and used the clearing already made by the Milano's wreck. Tells you everything about Ego in that one moment.

Remembered watching this scene for the first time in the theatre and thought to myself:” Yeap, this is the saddest scene in the MCU.” Fast forward to now and it still is. Yondu died doing what was right, saving his kid.

8:54 I think there was another reason Mantis wanted to tell Drax about Ego. She has seen Ego killing his children for a very long time, but when she feels the overwhelming sadness in Drax when he talks about his deceased daughter, Mantis understands how Ego is supposed to feel when losing a child and thus how evil he must be for not feeling anything at all.

The Guardians are such anti-heroes and I love them for it.

Drax may not have gotten as much character development as the others, but there are two types of development: one where the character changes, and one where the audience's perception of the character changes. The scene with Mantis reading his emotions and being overcome with sobbing while he sits there staring at the pools has stuck with me for years, as one of the most perfect illustrations of deep pain beneath an unassuming surface and a beautiful sequence of someone understanding another's pain.

16:53 It’s also an expectation subversive in my opinion, on the whole fighting giants trope. If this was a somewhat lesser film, Peter would just be a giant version of himself like his dad but no he wanted to be a giant version of Pac-Man and I love it!

i feel that the groot repeatedly bringing the wrong thing instead of the fin montage perfectly sets up the button misunderstanding that happens later on

Surprised more people arent bringing up the forshadowing of Quil going in on Thanos after finding out he killed Gamora. Him shooting Ego without hesitation almost as if its just reacting without thinking really just drives home that he’s reactionary when it comes to people he loves.

Great video, but a couple additions I didn't see much of in the comments. "You were the one who wanted the win...and I just wanted a sister!" --favorite line in the entire MCU!! So much emotion and revelation of Nebula's backstory all in one line. **** Drax: They're called Harbulary Batteries Quill: *exasperated* No They're Not!!! --cracks me up every time!

I remember being pissed when Peter Quill screwed the Thanos attack up by slamming his face after finding out about Gamora's death, but then I remembered the time when he tried to shoot Ego right after learning of his mothers murder

Haha, at first viewing I didn't catch that he also mentioned his language, and swearing. And, in case u didn't notice, groot, had wine of something poured on him, and being a plant, he absorbed it, witch might not only explain why he's so upset, we'll other then the obvious reasons, and it can kill plants, or hurt them. And if his body did prosese it, it could explain why he's being so well, adorablely a bit dumb, he could gave alcohol in his body.

14:56 I never noticed before how genuinely worried and upset he looks at having to cause Nebula Pain for their plan to work.

My favorite part has still got to be Mantis with Drax laughing at Quill, saying "I have never felt such humor!" I usually don't go for awkwardness, but this was almost wholesome in its torment. That line just did it for me.

Yondu's funeral is one of my favorite sences ever. The beautiful fireworks with Peter and Groot bonding over Father and Son (which is my favorite song), it is an incredible sence, one of the best.

Going back now after the Christmas special, we see Mantis and Peter’s sibling energy even back here. Isn’t it a classic sibling trope for one sibling to reveal the other’s love to a crush?

Did you notice that in the opening dance, Baby Groot uses some of peter's dance moves from the first movie.

Considering I almost didn't watch the movie because people were giving it crap reviews I 100% agree with this review that the movie is 100% awesome. And I get why CinemaWins felt the need to defend it, because I felt the need to defend it after watching it. The movie should be receiving much more praise, and James Gunn is good at what he's doing , so what if it is acknowledged in this video?! Its called CinemaWins after all, if not here where would that be mentioned...in the Cinema Sins one?! Not everything is about sucking up to people, some people genuinely enjoy a good show.

That moment you realize The Guardians did a better job fighting a Celestial than the ETERNALS!!

I've been watching the mcu in timeline order with a friend who's going through the first time. I didn't like this movie as much as the first when I first saw it in theaters. But the more I watch it the more I love it. Truly a awesome movie.

One thing I love is that Drax is the one to recognize that they are a family, as he was the only one of them who had a (proper/normal) family before.

I would add an extra win for when Peter says "what's so wrong with that?" Mainly because it highlights exactly what it is that makes heroes of the MCU so brilliant. It's not the abilities or suits or magic powers or whatever - it's being decent people who stand up and do what's right when other people can't. Peter is a good person and does what he can to save people, flawed as he is, and doesn't need powers to do so. Because he's just like everybody else, and that's awesome.

@@Ikajo Yeah that was a HUGE amount of stupid, though it wasn't all that surprising, at least to me. Fans seem to take out a lot of their anger and woes about a movie/TV show/game on the actors that play the characters, as if those actors have any control over the script. I'm looking at you, those who sent death threats to the woman who played Rose Tico from Last Jedi.

i know this may seem insensitive, and please know i'm trying not to appear so, but i doubt this would be a good place to speak of such things sympathy can be found anywhere, and yes sometimes on the internet, but please understand that doesn't make this the best place to simply just... say that people may see it as someone attempting to gain pity or attention, or anything similar, even if that's not part of your intentions not only that, this is a bit of your own personal life, and how much you say can in fact affect others or stir up long suppressed memories for people i apologize for your loss, i understand how bad it is to lose someone, but here is just not the place to let that out

I really can't wait for cinemawins to cover Vol.3

I love JG's use of saturated, cobalt blue in both movies. It's the primary tone in the first, but he uses it as an accent against orange, gold, and yellow, making such a beautiful contrast. The cinematography alone would make this worth watching, luckily the writing is excellent & the acting brilliant, across the board. One of the best MCU films.

It was great but you forgot the best line in the entire movie; “He said ‘welcome to the freaking guardians of the galaxy’ except he didn’t say freaking”

This film makes me cry every... single... time. The moment where Fleetwood Mac plays as Peter realises who his true family is; the moment where Gamora goes to hug Nebula and her first response from the touch of another is to attack, you just know the level of trauma Nebula has experienced but shows that it isn't too late to feel love, Yondu's funeral as Cat Stevens plays. MAN this film had me feel the entire realm of human emotion.

Honestly, after watching GoTG 3, the gag with Rocket and artificial body parts and then being disgusted by an actual body part makes that moment even funnier now that I realized the gag.

“NO YOU IDIOT!!!.... he’s too adorable to kill!” How curt and serious he says that is just amazing to me

Here's a thing, Gamora and Nebula both grew up as 'Children of Thanos' a 'father' who regularly pitted his 'children' against eachother, ensuring that they saw their siblings only as rivals. In such conditions, sharing ones inner feelings with _anyone_ would be alien and unwelcome, indeed, Gamora is so unused to any overture of friendship in GOTG 1 that she reacts to Peter dancing with her with anger... born of fear. Her willingness to give Peter and Ego the chance to be Father and Son in spite of her suspicions, shows how much she cares for Peter and then absenting herself to the hinterlands because it would actually be painful to see Peter experience a loving father, given that was something she would never have. She, in turn, is then confronted by Nebula, who was cybernetically enhanced by Thanos every time she lost a sparring match to Gamora, I'm guessing painfully, who then reveals all that Nebula ever really wanted was... family. While there are intimate moments between Gamora and Groot, Peter and Nebula, all of them happen in isolation with no onlookers, in any group situation, Gamora is all business, so her reaction to Mantis potentially putting her feelings on show is not unexpected. Not to mention that Gamora is learning restraint, she only threatened to break Mantis's jaw, not cut her head off.

i missed it in theaters sadly, bought the bluray day one and ive watched it a couple of times, that always gets me, Yondu is up there with Starlord, Drax, and the team, he's a badass and you get to see him vulnerable and that he always cared for Quill, I had to get the Yondu figure because they sold quick and growing up without a father, I always end up attached to father characters like him or Joel from the last of us. Guardians vol. 2 is my absolute favorite movie!

I did the same thing; thumped my chest, holding back tears... even though I knew they'd foreshadowed it with Stallone's asinine speech. And then as they cut to each ravager group, especially Stallone, I said "Frick you"... only I didn't use "Frick".

This movie has something movies like suicide squad dream of. And it's called *Heart*

Suicide Squad was everything people feared the first Guardians film would be.

I just realized this can be one ending where the avengers lose to Thanos.... Because Groot messed up and blew them all up killing all of them, So they never meet Tony and help them against Thanos

One of the things I love most about this movie, especially looking back at it over multiple rewatches, is how (most of) the main characters have their own arcs, but all revolve around the theme of family. Peter has it with finding his father. Rocket has it with how he pushes people away. Yondu has it with both Peter and the other Ravagers. Gamora and Nebula have it as sisters. Groot has it by, well, being the baby of the team. The only one who doesn't have much of a distinct "arc" in this sense is Drax, and I think that's why he seems to fill the most overtly comedic role, because he's perhaps the most grounded and least "full of issues" among them. He had such issues previously in needing to avenge his wife and daughter, but now he's moved on from that, and thus can be free to be the most openly comedic of them.

My dad is not an emotional man by any means, being a pretty stoic, smart-assy 60 year old, but when we watched this movie and Father & Son started to play, I could almost see tears in his eyes. It was truly amazing to hear one of our favorite shared songs in this movie used so well.

LedPESRule Plus they willingly manipulate scenes just so they're right. Yet people call it comedy and satire. Comedy would imply that they're funny and satire would imply that there's a real thing in the world that they're making fun of. Plus CinemaWins actually analyzes movies good or bad and will find legitimate points. Something CinemaSins can't do to save their lives.

Smarky wolf reviews Yep, agreed, I can understand that somebody can find them funny even though I don't at all, but humor is subjective... But objectively they offer basically no valid insight or criticism whatsoever, so I just don't get the point

Extra (personal) win, with spoilers for Vol 3 . . . . . . . . . . . In the finale, Rocket being willing to leave Quill to die on the planet so the rest of the Guardians can escape, and specifically saying "I can only afford to lose one friend today", cuts so much deeper when you know that dwelling on someone who was already dead during his escape from the High Evolutionary's lab indirectly got two more of his friends killed. Cutting Quill loose is not just him being calculating: he's been in this scenario before, and he's not repeating his mistakes.

17:22 Due to circumstances the day before me and my friends went to see this, when Yondu says this and passes away, I started bawling my eyes out. No, not just a single tear or a couple, full on crying, blubbering included, it hit me so hard. I calmed down abit after the scene due to the amazing comedic timing and such, but when Peter turned on the Zune and listened to the final song, which considering how it was cued was the last song Yondu listened to before saving Peter, I started bawling again. After we left the theatre, we sat in the parking lot for a minute. I asked if I could take a minute before we left, so I took out my phone and called my stepfather and told him through tears how much I loved and respected him. This movie made me finally connect with my stepfather in a real meaningful way and I cannot thank James Gunn enough. The way he can flip the script and get so many strong emotional responses on both ends of the spectrum in so little time and have them feel real is astounding.

The death of Yondu made me cry for so long god damn he was awesome.

You missed Rocket saying "I can only afford to lose one friend today"

I wish Stallone got a win during the ravager funeral. Even with only a few moments of screentime, his eyes had some real regret in them. You can literally see him replaying his last conversation with Yondu in his head. Incredibly powerful image.

The spinning shot with the sparks behind Peter and Gamora gets me every time. It's just... wow.

What I love about this movie is how Gamora is like a mother to Groot when she comforts him before she leaves and when she said hi to him at the beginning of the movie

It’s funny that you said in 7:35 that you wanted a celestial movie but probably weren’t getting one, but I think you might finally be getting that in Eternals soon! ❤️

Loving all the Kurt Russell name-dropping in the first bit and yeah, I think Disney's best de-aging so far (and this is after Jackson in Capt Marvel and the Luke and Leia bits of recent Star Wars projects). They took a risk on it in making Tron but over time they've really gotten it to work. That said, if you'd name-dropped Dexter Riley, that would have been cool, too. :) #DisneyLegend

4:35 I feel like that line really encapsulated Gamora, her relationship with Quill, and the Guardians as a whole. She's encouraging Peter to give his dad a chance and see if he can really have the relationship he never had, but also recognizes that things aren't always as they seem, people will lie to try to get things out of you, and they have no qualms about killing people who cross them. It's simultaneously both very sweet and earnest but also hard and ruthless. The Guardians definitely exist in a moral gray area.

I love the "PSYCHOPATH!" line. That either because she recognizes Nebula's flying or she put two and two together that it would definitely be her, she recognizes it's Nebula without having to see her.

The most powerful line in this film: "He may have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy." Right on n the feels every time.

Wish you had expanded more on the scene with Drax and Mantis, it’s a credit to Bautista’s acting. That scene was important in showing just how much pain and emotion Drax carries around inside regardless of his literal humor

"When you're ugly and someone loves you, you know they love you for who you are" is one of the sweetest things said in any marvel movie.
