Everything GREAT About Captain America: The First Avenger!

Фильм және анимация

With Captain America: Civil War coming up, I figured it would be fun to go back to the days before Cap was an Avenger. Captain America was given a C+ average from critics, this is why they're wrong. Here's everything right with Captain America The First Avenger. Next week more Avenging.

@@existenceisrelative if you see it historically the term german as an adjective existed for a really long time, but germans as in describing a group of people just existed since 1872, 1848 at least, because there was no such thing as a unified germany. There was bavaria, saxony, prussia, baden etc. But the first ideas of a unified nation, a unified group of people with a common language, of similars cultures wasnt really a matter until about1815-1848 and 1872. This difference was also a huge debate on the coronation of Kaiser Wilhelm I. 1872, because Bismark wanted him to make Kaiser of the germans, with that unifying all the groups of people who would you call german. But the nobility, or at least it was feared of them, that they didnt want that, that they would have preferred a german Kaiser, as an adjective, being part of this ethnic group, and by that losing not so much of their power as Kings and Archdukes of their respective territories. So it was feared that they would accept a german Kaiser but not a Kaiser of the germans. (Source: ZDF: Die Deutschen, Season 1, Episode 9) So in a historical context there is a huge difference between german and germans

Half of Howard's lines, Peggy touching his chest to make sure Steve's new body is real, the Doctor's reminder of Steve's heart, Bucky with the shield, the Howling Commandoes drinking somberly when the war is won, etc. I understand he can't win the whole movie, but this film is so underrated and it deserves more praise than it gets

Already in his first movie cap States he doesn't want to kill anybody... And then people complain he didn't kill Iron Man in Civil War... Cap would never do that unless there was no alternative, especially when the person is one he considered a friend. His final confrontation with Iron Man in Civil War proves that despite everything cap has been through since his first movie, he still is the same person. His morals stands, and that is what makes him a great character.

I love this comment and would like to add that, in my opinion, the end of Civil War showed us so much about the character of those characters. Iron Man is trying to kill the Winter Soldier because of his personal pain. He knows Winter Soldier was mind controlled when he killed his parents but he doesn't care and he's even willing to kill his "friend" Cap for trying to stop him from crossing a line. When Tony has his helmet removed at the end of the fight and Cap raises his shield Tony blocks his face because if the roles were reversed he would've killed Cap in that moment. After realizing that he's lost the fight and his friend Tony's selfish reaction is to try to "take" something from Cap by telling him he isn't worthy of the shield and that it belonged to his father (ignoring that his father gave it to Cap). Truly shows the difference in their character

  • @alexanderchristopher6237

    @alexanderchristopher6237

    5 жыл бұрын

@@levisamom5069 why would he not hold a grudge? You forgot that after they watched the recording of the death of the Starks, Tony asked Cap, "You know about this?" And Cap just nod. In the letter that came after Stan Lee's FedEx cameo, Cap said he was sorry about hiding the truth about the death of Tony's parents. Also, growing up, Tony was often shrugged off by his dad because his dad always remind him about how Howard Stark made Captain America. He grew up with that mindset and only at Iron Man 2 that he learned that Howard's greatest invention is Tony himself. It still doesn't prevent him to be jealous of Cap for stealing his dad's admiration from himself. The idea that Captain America, his dad's idol, who "stole" his dad away from loving Tony Stark, his own flesh and blood, would betray his father's confidence as well as Tony's by protecting his murderer would be sending a snobby Playboy millionaire who just broke up with his girlfriend (until they got reunited at Homecoming) to an uncontrollable fit. Stark's problem is personal, while Steve's problem is more of a professional problem. He's just trying to proof Bucky's innocence and stop the Sokovia Accords. It's the same with Stark at first (albeit the opposite) and the truth of his parent's death made him go to a rampage. Can he think of a better solution than giving in to rage? Probably. But would it be the first thing to come out of his thick skull? No, sir. Which made him a great character to watch as he developed through the MCU from Iron Man 1 to Endgame. He thought he got everything, everybody thought he got everything under his palms. And why not? He's rich, smart, one of the world's most sought after bachelor, and just great. However, in fact, he doesn't have it all. He got captured by terrorists, realized his number 2 sold weapons to terrorists to kill US soldiers as he sold the same weapons to save US soldiers, having the same thing keeping him alive to be poisoning him, daddy issues as stated above, alien threats, PTSD from same alien threats, fear of losing Pepper, being guilty for NY and Sokovia, his supposed best friend is protecting his mom's murderer (since he's more attached to his mother than his absentee dad), losing Spiderman as the only "son" he can only wished for, and realizing that all he does can't stop Thanos from killing 0.5 of everyone. Looking forward at how Endgame will end his arc ('cause we all know it's RDJ's contract is ending after Endgame).

@@alexanderchristopher6237 couple other things to add to your statement. Could part of Tony's feelings be because he is always the one in charge? the boss the leader so on. Yet here we have people following Cap and the only thing he has going for him - from Tony's perspective - is the serum. He can't equate natural leader to as normal person. One possible trivia in the comic book they gave Tony a drinking problem. It has been hinted at in the movies but not explored. I can excuse that because that would be a whole movie in it's self. To bad he costs so much, it would have been a nice addition to the TV series Agents of Shield, a story arc of a few episodes.

Something I've appreciated more every time I've rewatched this film - even when Sebastian Stan in in the background or side of a shot, he is still acting 100% to set up the character he will become in the Winter Soldier and Civil War. The development he provides to Bucky with just facial expressions in the background of a shot is incredible - just look at the scene where Steve walks back to the camp with the POWs. While everyone is cheering for Steve, he looks slightly bitter and disgruntled, like he thinks his relationship with Steve won't be the same now that Bucky won't have to protect him anymore, like he does in the first scene we see him in. Later, when Peggy walks into the room in a red dress, Bucky is clearly attracted to her but she goes straight for Steve; a reversal of earlier in the film when Bucky has to scrounge up a date for Steve so they can both be taking girls out. Bucky isn't the stronger one, or the more confident one, or even the hotter one anymore, and doesn't know how to feel about that. And Sebastian effing Stan does that with facial expressions. I mean, this is also down to great writing/script editing and directing, but STILL.

Fucking *thank you*. When he walks back and everyone is cheering for Steve, his face is a mixture of sadness, pride, and loss. Sebastian Stan finds a way to portray all of Bucky conflicting emotions, ranging from the fear his relationship with Steve will never be the same again, to pride over how Steve has finally become what Bucky has seen in him this whole time, through expressions only, and its brilliantly done. Props to him.

Personal I thought the look on Bucky's face in that scene was mostly annoyance that Steve only mattered to people because now he's Captain America. That's why he said "Give it up for Captain America", because that's all people cared about. I could be wrong, but I just feel like it's not in Bucky's character to be annoyed that Steve had changed. He loves him regardless of what he looks like or if he needs to protect him or not. Regardless, the acting is still out of this world.

So on Disney+ right now there's a show called "LEGENDS" which is shorts showcasing the leads of the new Marvel TV shows (WandaVision & The Falcon and The Winter Soldier). There's no narration/voiceover, just snippets of the characters showing where they came from in the films. And the one for Buck is AMAZING at how it shows Stan's acting - I'd really never realized how understated yet powerfully well done Bucky's portrayal is until I watched 8 minutes JUST focusing on him. AND HOW HE'S DONE THAT SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING!!

What bothered me the most in this video was the fact that CinemaWins said "Steve had finally fallen for a girl". Technically, a girl had finally fallen for him. They ignored him before the serum. But not Bucky. Bucky was there for him through everything. Re the comment about Deadpool: Cap and DP actually get along pretty well in the comics. For one thing, they are both products of super-soldier programs. Although their moral compasses are set quite differently, DP admires Cap (like most MCU heroes), and Cap inspires DP to try to be a real hero. Cap respects DP's abilities, understands his tragedy, and believes that he can be better. He's arguably too forgiving of DP's very serious flaws and sometimes reprehensible behavior (aren't we all?), but that's too complex to discuss here. Also, Cap and Blind Al also have some sort of mysterious connection.

@@Deviantygr Yes, in the movies Colossus is a stand-in for Cap and all the other heroes that have at some point tried to help and encourage Wade to be a hero (e.g., Spider-Man). But Jemie is also correct that Colossus represents the X-men. In the comics, Deadpool has tried to join the X-men a few times saying things like "we mutants need to stick together" to which the X-men reply "You're NOT a mutant." They sometimes let him hang around for a while and they may reluctantly collaborate with him on a mission, but they don't really want him around and certainly haven't tried to recruit him. He does have a relationship with Wolverine, though, since they are both results of the Canadian super-soldier program and they have the same powers (accelerated healing); in fact, it's possible they somehow gave Wade Logan's mutation, through gene-splicing or something.

But its the fact that they made him exactly as he is supposed to be: pure of heart, a true leader and didn't try to ride onto the Stark cool bandwagon is why I loved Cap from the beginning. That is what DC missed out on by making the whole Universe according to Batman n his mood in the films. The Avengers clearly depicts every character true to their mood and setting and thats why its the definitive team up movie for me.

Exactly! Even the bad MCU movies don't seem that bad because the characterization has been invested in heavily. Another thing I liked about this movie, is Zola. In the "scientist killing scene", it makes it look like Zola said "Hail Hydra" out of fear (and maybe he did). But as time goes on (both throughout this movie AND the unseen time period between WWII and TWS), Zola fully embraces the concept until he himself becomes the new leader of Hydra. And then he uses his newfound loyalty to recruit more and more agents to the cause.

Cap honestly doesn’t get enough credit that he deserves. He’s honestly such a good man without losing the 3 dimensionality imperative for crafting compelling characters. Out of all of the Avengers, he’s the best not because he’s the strongest, fastest or smartest (though he’s got enough of all three)- it’s because he’s the most inspiring force for good. That’s why he’s worthy.

I LOVE this movie. And contrary to what many think I LOVED the parts before Steve became Cap, it is very touching and after watching all the MCU movies, it makes you realize that Cap is one of the only MCU characters (even of the Avengers) to be consistently heroic and fair without being boring. It's the first time I've cared about a genuinely sweet character.

I recently took a trip through the part of KZread filled with WW2 buffs. Saw a few videos and a song about a guy called Audie Murphy, apparently the most decorated US soldier at the time, and many comments called him a "real life Captain America." They do have quite a few things in common: both were short but spirited young men, rejected by multiple branches of the military before they succeeded in joining the army, but more importantly they were exceptionally good natured at heart and performed many awe-inspiring and courageous feats during and after the war.

Keep up the good work I liked and subscribed! Also if you get popular I can't imagine how many sponsors you would get from movie companies, like honestly if I owned a movie company I would sponsor someone that is pointing out good things in movies to make people want to go buy/rent them again.

  • @dominict9325

Two things. One, Red Skull is dead, he wasn't shot into space, he was straight up disintegrated. The second thing is that there won't be a Cap 4, all the MCU characters get a trilogy, cameos in the movies of other heroes as well as roles in the Avengers movies. That's the formulae, Iron Man got his trilogy which is now concluded, Cap got his trilogy which is now completed, Thor is getting the third movie in his trilogy next year and then gets no more movies, Hulk probably isn't getting a trilogy because nobody liked his solo film, Ant Man is getting the second movie in his trilogy in a couple years, Spider Man and Black Panther are getting trilogies. As well rounded and likable as Cap is, why would he get a fourth movie? It breaks the formula, leaves less time for other heroes whose contracts aren't on the verge of expiring, it pushes boundaries as there really isn't much room left for a storyline dedicated to Cap since it's all played out.

Dominic Tee Hugo Weaving is still under contract. They could bring him back if they wanted to. Hugo doesn't want to come back so it probably won't happen. But Marvel could force him if they really wanted to do another Red Skull story. As far as them doing another Cap film, you might be right. But Marvel should reconsider after Civil War made the billion dollar club. But yes, they have a plan and will make another billion soon.

5:36 Fun fact about the tank Cap just destroyed, This was a real concept drawn up by the Nazi's during WW2 known as the Landkruzer P. 1000 Ratte. It would've been equipped with a naval gun as it's main turret surrounded by anti tank guns and anti aircraft guns ready to take out any tank it came across in theory. The tank was never really put into production and only sketches remain today, Still a cool little nod to one of the Nazi's most craziest schemes
