Everything Climate Activist Greta Thunberg Said Before Congress | NBC New York

See everything teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg said before a Congressional hearing Wednesday in Washington.
More: Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg offered a blunt message to Congress on Tuesday as she brought her campaign for urgent action on climate change to the U.S. Capitol.
"I know you're trying," she told Democratic senators at an invitation-only forum, "but just not hard enough. Sorry."
Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey thanked the 16-year-old activist for her advice and her activism, which has gained worldwide attention by inspiring a series of protests and school strikes, including one set for Friday.
Thunberg and other young activists bring "moral clarity" to the fight against global warming, Markey said.
"We hear you," he told her, vowing that lawmakers "will redouble our efforts to make sure that we inject this issue into the politics of this building and this country because time is running out."

Because, like a courtroom testimony, you have to ask questions that get the statement on record. There are a lot of politicians who simply are clueless about climate change and others who have heard facts but reject it due to bias, political affiliation or through personal interest in companies who don't want climate change legislation. You have to get people to say it out loud and force them to be a part of that statement on record, so they can't say they didn't know.

I'mnit a Spanish citizen and at the moment I'm in a leagal batle with the goverement of the country where I have a care registered that I use less then 1.000 kpm a year, because they forbid me to rebild the car with an electric engine, that I can drive with the power out of my solar panels. I build aty the moment a tiny-house with certified wood and recycled from pallets, metal studs from recycled metal. I have a garden with plants that where trowen away for goats and sheep and have a dog that nobody wanted. I have a low pension because I left the rat race before the pension age. The land I live on is not mine, it was a waste place where neighbours have over century's dumped everything. I cleaned over a one year period and seperated the waste in the needed fractions for the different waste containers. I did the work with a shovel and wheel barrel. Because of that, I can live here for free, the owner will have a clean place after I leave. A beautiful Spanisch garden. The hill is sediment from what the sea has left... so the hill was before under the sea level and is some 50 meters high. I live some 20 meters above the sea level with sea vieuw and see every morning that the sea is at the same place where it was ages before. So, I find shells and other rests of sea life in the hill. in stones. When the sea level ever will be rise, it will not be for the first time. I ame somebody who is adapting his whole life at the situations and is not afraid to work for something. I love freedom, democraty and the freedom of speach. History has showen in every partt of society that the preachers of believes, cults, political partys, starters of busineses or what ever, are always better of then the folowers and that ther roules are only for the folowers and not for themselves. Money, welt and power is always gaind by fear, fear for the life now or fear for the after life. Noah did'nt build a machine to stop the rain, but he builded a boat. Not a carbon one ofcorse.... Give me all the names that you know of girls and boy's who have sailed the oceans in a race sail yacht made of carbon, that has a seven times larger footprint then one out of polyester and even much more then one out of wood. My head is not in the (beach)sand, we had just a heavy storm and rainfall period in this part of Spain, and a lot of shit from the land ended up in the sea. The last day's I walked in the sea water to getter everyday some 50 kg of plastic. Normaly I walk the beach and pick it up from time to time after the waether or the sea current has changed. You are welcom to my Spanish paradise to live for free on the land and to clean up in front of our own noses as everybody has to start doing. Not for the problemes of tomorow but for the ones of today. A five year period of abnormal weather is called weather, a period of fifty or more years of changed weather is called climat. When the climat is changing places is not global warming and the climat and the sea level has always been a changing thing as is the crust of the earth where we live on, earthquakes and vulcano's are prove of that. Humans have the idea to be the roulers of the univers where they are a litlle stupid part of it. We can polute a bit or a large part, but we have no influence of meaning on the univers or the climat. let's not listen to extremists with unreal plans for the future who chase people away from the solutions for problemes of today. Too crazy and panic is stupid, commen sense has to roule. Starting with cooling down the warming up of the cold war.... Atomic bombs are useless, nucliar centrales has at leats some positive result, electricety till we find or use the nolidge for even cleaner energy. Wars are the worst for human kind and the climat. @XXXTekashion How can you be so stupid to do not the slightest bit of own research? With 341,856 inhabitants (June 2019), almö is Sweden's third-largest city after Stockholm and Gothenburg. 66% of the population belong to the established Swedish population, 34% have a migrant background. Due to the liberal immigration and asylum laws, the number of people with a migrant background in the city increases annually by about 3,500 or one percentage point of the urban population. In the district Rosengård - a district with just 22,000 people - 85% of the inhabitants have a migration background. Especially Muslims gather there. ..............So it is ONE district of Malmö where muslims make up the majority--- ONE small district with 22,000 out of 341,000 people. Telling swedish people are therefore the minority in the hohle city is as dumb as to to tell New York is Chinese while you are standing in the middle of China town. The 34 % of immigrants are comming from all over the world. See how stupid and missinformed you are? Telling me abour left wing media as it took me 2 minutes to find out these details....you´re talking about research? Pfffff......you are painfully uncapeable to do so and try to tell me something? Just shut your stupid mouth boy. Btw. I´m white myselfe - so you really can stick the rest of your stupid pants pissing comment up in your ass....

@theeverlastingspiral , science is not "controlled by politics." If it were, the scientists around the world would be expected to follow the political tendencies of the regime controlling their home country. That's not what we see. Instead, we see robust agreement among scientists, because they overwhelmingly follow the evidence and argument, not politics. And even if statistics could be manipulated, it's not likely that manipulated data would last long under peer review, replication, etc. Scientists are rewarded for falsifying the claims of other scientists, so claims that survive have to be more than political manipulations.

Read to the end - The Arctic ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from Consultant, at Bergen, Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm. Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds. I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922. As reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post - 88 years ago!

See, the problem with the ICPP report is the fact that all it does is measure the growth of carbon in the atmosphere, not what humans put into the atmosphere. The earth has been sustainable for at least 2 billion years. Ever since the earth has been around, the suns gamma rays constantly beat on the magnetic poles and the ozone layer. When the sun beats on the earth, the magnetic poles are weakened, and the nitrogen and oxygen in our atmosphere can't hold onto our magnetic field so to say. And you can pretty much guess how the ozone layer is being destroyed by the sun.

Greta is truly a modern hero. She is a 17 year old vegan who doesn’t fly, uses the lowest carbon emission vehicles to travel the world and educate people, leaders, politicians, administrations etc. on just how dire the situation actually is. She sailed on a boat from Europe to America to make this speech in front of congress. I have the UPMOST respect for her. I only hope others can listen and heed her words.

197bbm 498bvvff Well most of her travels have been throughout Europe which she takes the train. I should modify my comment to say the “least” carbon methods of travel rather than “non” carbon. Since a train requires some CO2 but far less then air travel. I will modify that after I post this. As far as coming to America it’s my understanding that she sailed. The fact of the matter is that she has sacrificed her youth to combat problems that were generated from before she was even born. She walks the walk, and talks the talk. Keep watching videos on her. You will not be disappointed. 🙂✌️🌎🌍🌏

@@Heffey02 P.S. did to know of a beach in Australia where a ancient tide line has been discovered that is 27 feet higher than it is presently .... this happened about 100,000 years ago, the ice caps had naturally melted away in a interglacial period then plummeted back to an ice age till our interglacial period we are in now, this is what the little girl doesn't comprehend that the earth has natural cycles that we cannot control, sure I agree we should find cleaner energy but that won't stop the tide from coming in ultimately nor will it stop the next ice age from arriving when this warm spell is done .....food for thought 👍👽👽👽

197bbm 498bvvff Oh I see...You were trolling. Well if you look at the evidence this is clearly not the next “ice age”. There is an abundance of evidence to show that human population growth, activity and industrial behaviors have caused the ecosystem to become warmer. These last 4 years were the warmest years in recorded history. (Google it). Also, Look at all the flooding, wildfires, increased intensity of tornados, loss of species, loss of coral, loss of habitat...etc. The list goes on and on. All you have to do is pay attention and educate yourself on the subject.

In Texas the extreme cold has caused pipelines to freeze. Look what happened in Germany the extreme snow and ice has completely shut down the solar panels, making it impossible for them to harvest energy. Is that the 'sustainable' future? You probably love AOC and are definitely not the smartest.
