The thing Gil is missing is that Shaq & Chuck both said it took people in the media saying something for them to take it seriously. Shaq said it was Wilbon who got him to pay attention. The Pelicans tried to be nice day this behind the scenes. Zion hasn’t responded so they are going with the public route. Either Zion takes it seriously or like Gil said he’s going to have to deal with this narrative the rest of his career.

Even if they WERE overweight, both Shaq and Chuck consistently dominated their positions in all aspects of the game. TWO HALL OF FAMERS that actually lived through what Zion is going through are trying to give advice BASED on their own LIVED EXPERIENCES and failures of being overweight in the NBA. You never heard Shaq or Chuck say they were not overweight, they know what their issues were and are trying to stop a young man EARLY in is career from going through the struggles in the public/media/experts eyes and becoming another Oliver Miller in 2 years.

Gil come on man. Zion has all the talent in the world to be a superstar MVP in the league but chooses not to. Pelicans have done everything for him. They've stuck by his side through all the questionable decisions he's made and even payed him a max contract when he really didn't deserve it. All their asking from him is what every other team asks from their players. To be in the best possible shape for the entire season. It's been more then 5 years of this and the Pelicans are fed up and so should the fans. When a player like lebron whose about to be 39 this month, is in top shape, and is whooping your ass on national television, is a major problem. The media has every right to report what's true.

This topic with Zion interests me because I'm in the health industry. I'll continue to believe, as McCants said, it's his mental health that needs help and wellness before he can accomplish physical health. All addictions: food, p0rn, smoking, alcohol, social media, video games, women, etc, are all symptoms of larger deeper issues. He presents well despite whatever is going on in his mind, (typical of a people pleaser) I doubt he knows how to articulate what's wrong and probably doesn't know the right person to trust with it. Mental health and wellness are real.

This. And what McCants said is on point! Everyone is holding him to the standards of their expectations of him, but it's not clear what his expectations of himself really are. Or why he's not achieving them if they are truly different to what is being seen! I think everyone is misinterpreting this as not holding him accountable, when it's actually the opposite. It's holding him accountable to his own expectations and resolving our own observably unreasonable mismatched expectations - actually better for everyone. We can't ever know what his true expectations for himself are, so after 6 years you can only accept that this is enough for him in himself, and if it's not, he has to communicate what the issue is. External help can't be offered until the issue is elucidated, if any can even be given to begin with...

There are so many people in the world who would sacrifice everything to be an NBA player, but they were not born with the natural gifts to become one. Meanwhile, Zion will not sacrifice food, to be a superstar. He doesn't deserve the talent he was born with.

The problem I have with some past NBA players is the blind loyalty they display towards some of the current players. Any one who believes Zikn in today's game is a kid is just being dishonest! No one has used his past experience to advise current players, especially Zion, than Charles Barkley, and Shaq to some extent. NBA Players (past and present) are always quick to point out how franchises need to do right by their players but hold off on holding their own accountable. The Pelicans are paying top dollar for him to play. And have gone lengths to try to get him to stay healthy yet haven't got the same level of commitment from Zion. He clearly is putting in work in other aspects of his life, yet appears to cares less about securing his paycheck. Y'all need stop the cap!

He should focus on presenting a good product for the viewers, rather than what he wears on his head or on his feet. This is what he thinks about his viewers. I assume Gilbert does not see anything wrong with the unprofessional outfits McCants wear. This has been going on since he joined the podcast. I guess they are catering to grassroot viewers only. I am not sure what to think. 😊.

The issue with Zion isnt just that he's out of shape. It's that he's getting injured and will get surgeries to a level where that same bounce might never be the same. He already wasnt jumping as high after that miniscus injury, even when in shape. If he stays this fat, he'll have 2-3 more surgeries before 27 and we will literally never see what Zion couldve been. Barkley and Shaq were always built solid. They got fat when disinterested, but we never truly missed out on their prime. Barkley looked skinny by comparison in his highlights. The fattest, oldest version of Barkley was still drastically skinnier than 23 year old Zion, cut the excuses.
