  • @moralhazard8652

    @moralhazard8652

    4 жыл бұрын

    Well yes, but what does that have to do with the situation they are talking about in this video? If you are a woman or a small man or have a hereditary desease you do not have the same opportunity when it comes to physical ability. And if you are born stupid or have parents that do not give a shit about education you certainly do not have an equal opportunity to get a phd in quantumphysics.

  • @MegaNiQ

    @MegaNiQ

    4 жыл бұрын

    Seal of Approval Ben Carson would beg to differ, and that was before internet, internet now is basically free college for those who have access and desire to learn. With a few clicks you can go from nip slips images to quantum fluctuations. Access to information is in the pocket of everyone who has a smart phone now.

  • @moralhazard8652

    @moralhazard8652

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@MegaNiQ You clearly haven't understood (or deliberately misinterpreted) what I wrote. Yes, a woman who trains all day for 20 years might end up stronger than some lazy big dude who spent the same time on the couch eating chicken wings. Yes, a poor black boy with a single mother if he is either more intellegent gentetically or somehow tried way harder than anyone around him might end up a brain surgeon. Noone disputes that. But that's not equal opportunity. The whole point is that they have to try harder or if they tried just as hard as their competition from a rich or educated family or with a better suited physique they would achieve significantly worse outcomes. And in many less prominent cases even trying harder doesn't get you there. Now even if you could find all the information a brain surgeon needs online for free, you would still have to somehow get into medical school and pay your bills until you got your degree without which noone is going to let you work on their brain. "Equal opportunity doesn’t mean equal outcome" as it is usually used is an idea that I can get behind. If two guys start from the same place and one tries harder or has better ideas or makes better decisions then it is fair if he ends up with a greater reward. If one starts off significantly worse than society should try to support him at the start.

    I can agree with the ideal of equal opportunity. But to believe there is no bias whatsoever in the outcome is to have significant blind spots. As with any society in the history of humanity, the group in power will always be biased in favor of its own perceived group, to the exclusion of others. It's more extreme in some societies than others, but it exists pretty much everywhere on earth. Just because we call something "equal opportunity" doesn't mean it necessarily is.

    We would hope that everyone is given an opportunity to succeed but that's not how the Real World Works! Many people have to be "determined that whatever they want to accomplish, nothing is going to stand in their way!" We all need to realize that we are the product of the decisions that we make and/or have made many years ago! My sons had a friend who got really high scores on his SAT & got a full scholarship for college! He flunked out his Freshman year & lost that scholarship! Why! Because he played on his gaming system & skipped many classes & then when he attempted to pull his a@@ out of the wringer for finals, it was too late! He didn't give up but realized that college wasn't for him & he sells insurance now!

Obviously, policies forcing equal outcome have been in place for decades. I guess you missed that thing called affirmative action. Apparently qualified Asians seem to be having difficulty getting accepted into Harvard because of preference to lesser qualified applicants in the interest of satisfying more equitable racial diversity. Fortunately, there's now a plethora of established curricula in the pseudosciences geared to retain and graduate these budding scholars and future SJW activists despite their 4th grade reading abilities. How about prison reform and breaking the cradle to prison pipeline? Because all the races must be equal, and there's a disproportionate number of one race going to prison, it can only mean that race is being unfairly targeted and oppressed. Right? Therefore, make fewer arrests, even if it's just a petty crime of $5,000 or less. That will ensure an equal race distribution in the prisons, and that these fine contributors to society stay on the streets to nurture their families and become good, upstanding citizens. Problem solved. But we still need to make more arrests of the other race to make it more balanced. Check. But you want a name. Bernie Sanders. No fact check is needed to show the man's public service record and speeches clearly outline his socialist agenda...economic equality for all, even if the hardest workers have to take up slack for the slackers. All will be equal. Oh and I'm sure you've witnessed the trend in Hollywood to ensure all races and genders are equally represented in films, regardless of whether the acting roles might be better suited for a different race or gender.

    @@embecmom5863 And that's part of the problem. The "everyone gets a trophy" mentality has led younger folks to become entitled. Now they expect to be recognized, even for mediocrity. I remember seeing one of my peers get a trophy (in sports) and I decide that I want one too. I worked my tail off, practiced and got better and won more than one. The idea that you might have to work for something has become alien. The idea that even "IF" you work hard you might not be successful has become alien to some. Now if someone (who's younger) simply shows up they expect to be rewarded. I will also say this....I've learned more when I've failed than when I've been successful. Failure/defeat will cause some to give up and quit, while with others it will act as fuel. Either way, working and getting better at something still makes the individual better. It's like one of my favorite sayings: "adversity doesn't build character, it reveals it" Yeah, it's cliche' but it's also true.

All the kids today love video games, and a handful of people make good money playing them, but filling kids heads with this crap makes them all think they shouldn't bother getting a "real" job if it's not something they love doing. But 99% of "gamers" aren't making a living at it. They are stuck living in their parents basements, while they parents work that 9 to 5 to make a real living.

    In Scandinavia we made everything equal a few decades ago, and yeah all you find out is that no people are equal its not between man and woman its among all of us. Same with beauty no one ever speaks about it, but if you are hot as F, your life is different, man or woman. But the cry babies have not come to that one yet, just accept it as a fact of life and try to become the best you can be.

I love to write songs. I’ll probably never make money out of them but I love the reception I get from them when I play them in my local community. Even with the anxiety I get when playing in front of people I feel alive and engaged.
