Everyone HATES the Big Fish in These 5 Lakes... But Why?? 😡

Ойын-сауық

A rare and unique opportunity fishing these 5 lakes for the BIG fish that live here... but why is this species hated so much in the commercial fishing world, and can we finally catch a big one? Let me know what you think in the comments! Lure fishing is always great fun but it can be really hard going at this time of year, but places like this make it that little bit easier! (Drone shot in the thumbnail was taken from the venues website.) The cold of winter can make life very tough for a fishing KZreadr.

Pike are essential in a lot of waters . They fulfil the same role as birds of prey and mammal predators in the countryside. taking out the weak and diseased and clearing up the dead and dying . Pike are a native fish and to kill them because they are eating rainbow trout is just stupid. Gamekeepers and large estates are the same , killing stoats and foxes because they eat pheasants and eggs . Ignorance is the key in all of that ridiculous behaviour.

Great video as always. Pike should not be removed. They are part of a balanced eco system and there will never be more pike than the water can sustain. Esthwaite water in the lake district is a great example of a lake that has some incredible trout and also huge pike. They feed on the weak, sick trout. Great to see a commercial water like this promoting a balanced system.

Here in Sweden it is, or at lest was common practise in rainbow/char waters to empty them of pike. Sometimes even netting the whole lake before stocking it with trout. I think it is still done, especially in the fast north where this kind of thing goes unnoticed. But it always comes back and bites them in the ass, because after a few years the ecosystem just crashes because of the lack of a top predator. You might end up with a water that is absolutely full of small perch and roaches "Thousand-brothers" as they are called, the water gets murky, competition for food is too high, nothing grows large anymore and so on. On the other side you can create a trout lake and let the pikes live to "manage it". They will still mostly eat roach or dead trout, plus you will attract more customers who all want that record sized pig of a pike that will eventually grow there.

Indiscriminately killing pike is a total waste but within a fishery there is an argument for management, which isn't to stop them eating the stock but to create and maintain the predator fishing. Kulling a number of smaller pike will create an opening in the lake to allow larger pike to come through as the bio load is lowered creating space and less competition. Thats assuming your trying to create a big fish water . Theres loads of other factors but is an argument for management. Being from Scotland im no stranger to old game angler throwing every big pike up the bank to die

Maybe its a case of their being too many pike in the lake? Depending on the size of the water some lakes will have a small number of pike in their waters to keep the general fish population under control. Its all about keeping a healthy and balanced ecosystem. Too many of them and they end up being a menace to match and carp anglers. Too few means fish population goes crazy and all the smaller course fish eat all food that would have normally been reserved for big carp. I would like to have more pike in the venue I fish. Its a carp lake but carp anglers have occasionally caught the odd pike on boilies... I thought the story was BS at first but since I've been there I have witnessed it happening on two different occasions. They'll normally strike as people are retrieving their line to check on their hook bait. I fish the lake for pike and perch and while the lake is absolutely plentiful when it comes to small perch whichever corner of the lake you go. There are so few pike there that you really have to be at the right place at the right time to hook into one. Ive caught a few pike from there on spinning gear but it can be a real tough graft to hook into one even when using things like bladed spinners and chatterbaits.

@@adventurefishinguk I dont agree with eradication at all. If the lakes are owned by clubs with paying members who are serious about their fishing then they'll normally host a club meeting once or twice a year to talk about the goings on and im sure if these members have any concerns regarding certain species of fish ruining their sport then they could make it a talking matter to have them caught and removed from the lake. For instance the lake I fished at had a catfish problem. God knows how they got in there but they were there and they closed off the lake to all the match and carp anglers for 2-3weeks while a group of volunteers from the club tried to catch them. Having a few pike in there also keep the water clear of any dead or dying fish so they are still providing an necessary service on top of helping control fish stocks. Personally Id love for the lake I fish at to stock some chub. The club that owns it used to stock it back in the 80s but its now primarily a carp lake and thats what 99% of the members fish for.

I've come across that attitude a lot from commercial and stocked water anglers, and I bloody hate it. As far as they're concerned, anything that isn't a trout should be chapped and disposed of, especially pike and perch. I understand that not everybody can trek for miles into banjoland to seek out wild fish, but that miserable torn faced outlook that they have, where everything is about the weight and catching the bag limit, is totally against the joy and spirit of the sport.
