Yeah I know
I think something that is scarily overlooked is that She refers to the short guy as “Grumpy” so she knows OR at least is aware of the Story of Snow White… When in the end of the movie the queen hag extends the apple out to her and say “all this pain will go away with one bite” Giselle should know of Poison Apples especially since she is aware of Snow White, so she fully and willingly took the Poisoned Apple. I feel this was completely dark because she was willing to un-alive herself because the thought of not being with Robert was tragically heartbreaking.

Also!! I love how they didn't villainise Nancy! Movies, especially the 2000's ones, do it so often. Just make the rival girl a total bitch and practically a villain. Nancy, on the other hand, was just a normal woman who wanted her romance and love and gracefully let go of Robert when she realised they weren't meant for each other. AND they gave her her happily ever after, too! Almost unheard of in 2000's movies and honestly, in movies today, too.

Okay but did anyone else fall in love with Edward? He's honestly an icon, and one of my favorite Disney princes after Naveen & Flynn. James Marsden was so cute in that role. Edit: Plus, the songs and animation being so well-done & made with care ("True Love's Kiss" and "How Do You Know" are still bangers) just shows how much Disney fell off on both aspects. This is so visible in the sequel, where I can't remember one song & the animation was ugly and lazy.

At a time when Disney is desperately trying to mine audiences for nostalgia, this movie shows how to do it successfully. It uses all the classic tropes of age-old animated classics, but the movie has a heart of its own and that shines through so much... you should also do Stardust, man. That movie is weird as hell, but SO GOOD.
Enchanted was one of the most self aware movies of its time. It really celebrated Disney’s past while also showcasing its legacy to a new generation. Something that all the new live action remakes tried to do and miserably failed.

I'm so late! I don't think so. I feel like once Edward is married, he's eligible to take his father's throne -- as Narcissa is widowed to the rightful King. He's now married to Nancy, which places him in the status to rule. I found that it didn't make sense, because he's the Prince by blood, he should've been able to rule without a bride, so... It's more confusing the more I explain, but... That's Disney for you 🤭
Thing is. Nancy always was a romantic at heart. She clearly loves the flowers and birds Robert sends her, and wants a bit of that fairytale magic in her life. But she’s stuck in the real world. Where fairytales aren’t reality and happy endings are a dream. You can see flashes of it all throughout the movie. In the end Nancy and Edward are a better match than Nancy and Robert. Hell she even remarks upon Edward’s romantic nature the very first time they meet. I love how they took the time to develop this part of Nancy’s character. It makes her happy ending with Edward at the end make sense. It makes you genuinely happy for them to be together rather than just having this unsatisfying feeling that they are settling because their real loves got together with each other.

Just watched this movie, and it is one of the best things Disney has and will ever make. Incredibly self aware. Healthy relationships. Funny. Likable characters. Character growth. NOT preachy. NOT hateful or mean spirited, towards ANYONE. Perfect. Even the villains are nice. It's not just a romantic movie, it's also a story about personal growth.
When I watched the deleted scenes of this movie it really made me understand Nancy and Robert better. Nancy has her own scene talking to a friend about her relationship. Her friend calls her "a hopeless romantic" in a world where "romance is hopeless" which makes way more sense why Nancy would be down for the literal fairy tale romance that happens at the end.

The thing I always appreciated about this movie is (apart from the queen, obviously), nobody's the bad guy. Usually in this sort of romcom, the fiance is a terrible person that for some reason the romantic lead can't see, but here, neither "existing" romantic interest is a bad person, they just aren't the *right* person.

Amy Adams absolutely crushes this role. The way she acts like all three of the original Disney princesses so effortlessly but can still go back to being a normal, serious person with a flick of a switch is awesome. James Marsden was also so good in this movie. He completely became Edward and did such a good job at being this goofy, sweet, himbo prince. And then Mr. McDreamy was good at being a grounded, stressed out, sad, worried about his kid guy who finds out he’s falling in love with someone he probably never thought he would. It is to this day one of my favorite movies. My family and I watched and talked about this movie all the time when my little sister and I were younger and we still do to some extent. It’s weirdly a perfect Disney movie

17:08 There was a deleted scene from the movie where they talk about Nancy being "a hopeless romantic discovering that romance is hopeless", and I really wish they had kept that scene in because it really shows why Nancy runs off with Edward in the end and that she is happier with him than she would be with Robert. That fairytale romance is exactly what Nancy wants, and she won't get it with Robert. And while Giselle wanted it in the beginning, she finds that she doesn't anymore by the end of the film, meaning that she would not be happy with Edward anymore, but would be happy with Robert. Making everything a win win when the couples change at the end. There are little hints of this that are still in the movie, and I understand why they cut the scene (it would have messed with the flow of the movie overall), but I feel like Nancy ending up with Edward is really confusing otherwise because the remaining little hints are hard to pick up on.

They didn’t need that scene for it to be blatantly obvious though. I got it as a 14 year old. Just the way she reacts to getting flowers, and Edward’s unashamed use of the phrase “live of my life”, makes you see that these are things she wants. The scene with the shoe at the end too. Nancy alway was a hopeless romantic.
I honestly think the part where Giselle is talking to the soon-to-be-divorced couple is very sweet. And what's so bad about one girl admiring another girl's hair??

🙋🏾♀️ Loctician here! I feel like it's more about him not wanting to tap into what could lead to a heated discussion about black women's discomfort in other people going into their personal space. In my years of cosmetology, black women view their hair as an extension of their autonomy and spiritual connection to the world, and not just aesthetic expression. Having a stranger touch you without consent -- especially without knowledge of where their hands have been -- can feel very strange and a violation of their bubble. I understand that it can be fascinating and beautiful (trust, even I still love to touch a person's hair, if it's pretty) but we have to be kind and understanding that not everyone is okay with it. I hope that helps
@roraboryalice2187

@@OyayoTheStorm Ah yes, makes sense! I do have to say though, as someone who loves hair of all kinds, I think there's a little bit of a stigma related to white people liking the hair styles that black people, whether men or women, wear, because it's assumed to be just based on race. Hair is gorgeous and should be taken care of no matter your background, and having someone appreciate your hair that could literally take hours to do, can be very rewarding. Of course, no touching ANY ONE'S hair without consent. That is too much lol
@OyayoTheStorm

That's valid, Love; and I agree. Partially, it's why I ended the comment with "anyone", and not just isolate it to black women, and made the statement that I Love touching people's hair, as well! Shoot, I have clients of All hair types, so I tend to even do their hair in my head. Still... It's a history thing, and with the generational trauma that's rooted in one's DNA, as it pertains to being treated like an exhibit, but also ridiculed in the next breath for that very thing, it just becomes sacred, but I do understand that hair can be really universally fun and extra! And you just wanna look with your hands! I Do appreciate you understanding the importance of consent, and how precious that can be to all races, and I also do respect that not all non-blacks want to stick their hands in folk's heads 🤭🤭🤭
I was obsessed with enchanted as a kid😭😭 (I’m still kinda young) and it was my favorite movie for like a year
One thing I love about Enchanted is that it makes fun of the fairy tale tropes but also fully embraces them. Like the writers knew the logic is silly but love it anyway. It feels like it's embracing the "cringe culture is dead" that's going strong now, except it came out in 2007. Comparing to when Frozen made fun of the "love at first sight and married right away" trope, it just felt mean. Like a jab. Making fun of everyone who dared like the movies _Disney themselves made_ . In Enchanted, they also make fun of it but in a friendly, loving way. Like "yeah, it's dumb but this is fantasy so whatever!"

11:39 "I've called every travel-agent..." After the 1st one says they've never heard of it, wouldn't you double check the map? Would your next move really be calling every other travel-agent? I lost when Giselle sang and all the rats came into the apartment.
One thing that I only realized during my last rewatch of this masterpiece is that the step mother really just did _not_ have to kill Giselle. I mean the whole thing is that if Edward gets married that would somehow dethrone her so for his whole life she's just tried to keep Edward away from all young maidens, not that she totally could've killed him at any point to just avoid it ever becoming an issue but she never did. Anyway as we all know Giselle is an issue she gets sent to our world, Edward goes after her and Nathaniel jumps in to try and poison Giselle, but that's when the whole thing goes sideways. Because the queen _obviously_ notices that Giselle is starting to fall for Robert. It would be so much smarter AND easier for her to stop trying to kill Giselle and instead push her towards Robert and lead her to making the choice that everyone already knew she was ultimately going to make anyway. The queen could set it up so that Edward comes to rescue Giselle to find that she is happy and in love with another man which could potentially shatter his image of love forever and make him think he will be much happier alone. The queen would get to continue being queen without killing anyone, Edward would never find out that his step mother is evil, Giselle would still be happy with Robert and think that she made the right decision by herself, literally no suspicions would be raised, ever.

I think what I like the most about this movie (aside from "That's How You Know," which is of course an all-time banger) is that it would be very easy to make Edward and/or "Nancy" be evil and antagonistic toward Giselle and Robert, but they're not. They're just people, and I think the movie actually does a pretty good job showing that even though Robert and Nancy were together for a while, they weren't the best fits for each other. Robert isn't overly romantic, and it's implied that Nancy is - which is why I always thought her running away with Edward (who is also very much into the big romantic gestures) back to Andalasia made sense from a narrative perspective. Anyway, I really like this movie a lot. It's a ton of fun every time I rewatch it.

I liked that as well. All too often in romance stories in order to justify the main leads breaking the hearts of the people their currently with or even to justify their cheating. The love rivals, many times the people they are currently with are portrayed as Jade, selfish or evil. When in reality even their quote, unquote evil acts can be justified. I mean if someone you loved betrayed you, you are a victim if you did something bad to them in anger, it's understandable. In order to take away the dissonance the audience may feel. The characters are made to be bad. I really appreciate that this movie didn't do that.

Something I really like about the ballroom scene that I noticed but didn't fully understand as a kid is how Gizelle, who is the definition of a fairytale princess that wears puffy and big dresses that are over the top, is instead dressed in a very slim, modern, and understated dress. Meanwhile Robert who is very much NOT a fairytale guy and is overall a realist and dresses simply, it now decked out inmuch more elegant and fairytale-escue attire. Idk, I just like on how they are dressed completely opposite to their personalities and I've always wondered if that was done on purpose.

Yeah, I honestly don't think Giselles ball attire really suits her considering how she wears such over-the-top puffy dresses throughout the rest of the movie (which look amazing on her). Also there were hints that Nancy wanted more romance in her relationship that Robert wasn’t providing (he thought they didn’t need that). Like when she thanks Robert for the flower arrangement thing Giselle asked her bird friends to take to Nancy, she values it because it was a romantic gesture. And when she meets Edward and he tells her how much he loves Giselle with that eloquence that characterizes him, she’s impressed by how romantic it sounded. So when she got together with Edward, it didn’t feel as a random coupling, but a well-balanced one.
Loved all these takes haha
