You know, Emily dickinsons poems are a work of 55 years. Theres one poem that i really like, its also very easy to understand in my opinion. It starts like this: Hope is a thing with feathers… Start with one poem, find one you like. Don’t think too much about why its spaced out like it is, why she’s so cryptic. Poetry is first and foremost about the feeling it evokes. So if you cannot relate to a poem: skip it. You do not have to understand the whole poem, sometimes its just one line that speaks to you and that is enough. What I’m trying to say is, you don’t have to read all of her poems in one year. In fact i don’t think you should do that. Why don’t you read one poem at a time and if it takes you one year, five years or ten years to read the entirety of her work, that’s completely fine. Theres also the option of not liking her poetry. That’s fine, too.

This is beautiful. I think readers need to realize that pacing and not liking something or partially understanding something exists. Not all pieces of literature is meant to be understood and liked by everyone. It’s like any other form of art (like music or dance), it will speak to a certain crowd and we shouldn’t feel like failures if we aren’t that said crowd

You may want to start Emily Dickinson now and chunk it up in pieces to read throughout the year. It’s better, at least for me, to let a few poems simmer in my mind before I try to read more. If I try ploughing through a book of poetry the way I do a regular novel, it just becomes a mass of words mushed together with no meaning.

Some poetry and classics are like memes, you don't get the whole picture if you're unfamiliar with the references, current events and media that was common knowledge for the creator. But there are timeless stories and elements too. Some stories are also more impactful at different moments in your life. Poetry is very personal so it's up to you what you get out of it and if it connects with you. For How you lose the time war, I think the way to enjoy it most is accepting that you don't get everything the first time you read it.
I'm buying a lot of ebooks so my tbr doesn't scare me (until I see how many shelves are in my Pocketbook library)

I really do recommend reading Beartown by Fredrik Backman. I genuinely believe I started reading just so I would encounter this book. Well, for me, Dickinson’s poetry, and any poetry for that matter, is not so much about the exact meaning of it, but the process of trying to find any meaning in it myself. Give it a shot! I personally have so much fun trying to interpret Dickinson’s poems. I love searching them up also, along with the historical context in which they were written. It really helps when it comes to understanding them. There is nothing wrong with that. However, it takes time and her writing is very particular. Taking it slow will help, I think. And if you feel like you just can’t do it anymore, maybe her writing is just not for you. And that’s totally okay too!❤️

To make the Emily Dickinson Book more manageable, just read 3-4 pages a day. Just let the words flow over you, and don't try to figure out every single detail, go for the grand theme. Eventually things might start clicking. At least that helped me get through Shakespeare. Mrs. Dalloway, Beartown, Anna Karenina, & The Invisible Man, are on my 2023 TBR list. Just Kids was really interesting! Saw her when she did a reading of her book Devotion. Cool lady! One classic I hope to read this year as well is Beowulf. Happy Reading!!

Mrs. Dalloway & 2 other Virginia Woolf's are on my "these books will self destruct in 12 months" tbr, & Great Expectations & Anna Karenina are on my classics tbr. I read North and South last year & it took me most of the year lol I felt it was so boring & dry. I think the mini series was amazing though!

Love you more 😭💗
Have you watched Junji Ito’s Maniac on Netflix? I was looking for a new Anime to watch and noticed it came out a few days ago. Also- do you still play Genshin? I finally got into it and I’m obsessed 😌❤️

I started Maniac but I haven’t finished it yet! I’m savoring it 🥹💗 also I haven’t played genshin because I kept running out of storage in my phone so I had to sacrifice it 🥲

Good luck with your TBR!! 💗 I hope I love Lolita 🥰
Bella, as a Russian speaking girlie I can testify that you were in fact saying Anna Karenina right the first time 😭 the Russian pronunciation is Anna KareNEEna like you were saying it

PLEASE so many Russians said I was saying it wrong I- 😭😭
wow. My physical TBR is around 200... I do plan to lower it as much as possible this year..but... I always say that and end up with more new books that stays unread. -cry- How did you do that? Do you read new books/new releases as soon as you get them?.. Or do you read kindle books before buying physical copies? I need this in my life :)

I’m very selective on the books I buy so as soon as I get them I end up reading them since I’m so excited!! But that’s not always the case sometimes life gets busy and the books start piling up 🤡
