Brok's "What the fuck" when Atreus goes Bjorn and runs out of the house is still unmatched

For brok's accident you should've used the dialogue where Atreus asks if he can tell Sindri that he's a god and Kratos says that everyone has their secrets, even Sindri.

That last one always makes me tear up man 🥲 Kratos has come so far and changed for the better!

I think that since the prophecy of Surtr combining with Sinmara was broken it also gave Kratos 2 flaming swords of legend since Kratos was the once to fight Thor and Odin with the flaming blades, not Surtr.

broken? Angrboda said that some details could change, but that the prophecy would end up being fulfilled anyway, this is what happens with Surtr, who does not sacrifice his beloved, thus fulfilling his destiny, and the flaming sword can actually be seen buried when you change to Atreus.

Actually the reason Brok was banned from Alfheim wasn't because he died. I was just replaying Ragnarok and came across a quote from Sindri after unlocking free roam in Alfheim and beginning the jellyfish quest. The reason he was banned was because he introduced the elves to a "Juicy Nokken"

Well you can't really show something grand about something being snapped out of the timeline, it just ceases to exist. It's not supposed to be grand and visual, it's supposed to make absolutely no sense because time itself is nonsensical when you look at it from the God Of War perspective.

Another limitation I'd say is that the game camera is locked to a "continuous shot" as in they had no cuts. They chose not to cut closer to Thor and Jormungandr's fight scene so that's what we got

Here's another good one easily missed: In one of the written text from Muspelheim (GOW 2018), there's a bit that talks about Surtr taking two fiery Soul Eaters. The writer didn't know what he wanted to do with them In Ragnarok, when you finally meet him (after he blasts Kratos and Atreus away), the two fiery Soul Eaters spawn. It was likely he knew he'd be sought after, so he took those Soul Eaters as guards

in all the triptychs that include freyr in GOW 2018, he’s never holding his sword. it floats near him, foreshadowing his magic sword in ragnarok

Not a lot of Aesir Gods, WE DONT EVEN SEE GIANTS, the entire “grave mistake” warning with the elven war was nothing, Atreus being Loki was pointless, Freya just so quickly forgives Kratos 1/4 way through the game after that insane build up, didn’t see Valhalla (until the DLC), Asgard was a poor cheap ass little village, Thor was incredibly disappointing and barely even a villain, the writing was a downgrade from 2018 and at times cringe af and I could keep going. They legit gave us a FREE DLC that was pretty good to keep the game a little relevant and because the base game was definitely not what the hype built up let’s keep it honest

Amazing how so many of these are barely payoffs. Even the serpent getting sent back in time is a throwaway. Atreus saying "that's it!?" is very on point.

This game is honestly one of my favorite stories now. The sheer amount of pure fatherly love and the total redemption truely caring for someone brings Kratos. Its beautiful.

Hell the fact that 2018 theme even foreshadows Atreus leaving is wild

I'll speak in a calm manner. But it is a possibility that the poison was what somewhat slowed down Thor. Considering jormungandrs poison is important for both 2018 and Ragnarok if it show Etir imbued in the top right of the screen when he spits out the axe.

Agree about the final, but I'm chalking that one up to time/resource restraints. Fighting through hordes and ambushes to get to Odin was what I expected/hoped for, but can you imagine the work that would require on top of everything you already got before that moment? Plus, it still had a satisfying ending. Edit: the copy paste trolls from the previous game bothered me a lot more, I still feel a bit cheated by that one

They were fighting the entire time during the invasion, Jorm destroyed the Aflheim tower just by falling on it. It was thanks to Jorm that they even got as far as they did because he managed to keep Thor's attention until he got bonked into the past. I do agree that they could shown more of it though. The only thing wished was for Fenrir to have a more offensive role. He and Angrboda did save them at the end which is huge, but it would've been awesome to watch Fenrir go ham and kill more things

Knew it from the start that the fogure atreus holds at the end wasnt kratos. His attire was the same in the entire panel until that section, where the robe was green and his tattoos were Mysteriously obscured by damage to the wall. Suck it kratos dies theory-crafters

You can see not only the tonal shift but also the retcons and good ideas that are scrapped. There are even more things that are left unanswered. Cory Barlog should've directed a trilogy.

Wasn’t Cory the one that proposed the games only be a duology in the first place? He was also a co-director for Ragnarok so it’s not like he had no involvement, in fact he probably had a good amount of input on how the game turned out. Don’t know what people mean when they talk about the “tonal shift”. Outside of some jokes for brevity here and there, the story felt like a proper continuation of 2018. The first game just had the benefit of being slower paced to setup the world and Ragnarok had to finish it. I think the more important character moments and story beats they needed to conclude were done well despite whatever missed opportunities or pltholes there may be. For a world this vast and a story spanning multiple characters, we are honestly lucky they managed to (mostly) pull it off. Most other franchises that have an expansive lore usually don’t end well (Game of Thrones, Lost, etc.)

He himself said this, and of course that would impact the story and it did. I have no idea how you know Cory was involved a good amount and where you got that information from, but that doesn't matter. Not only being the director is way different in terms of your involvement ın the story but also he himself might have dropped his vision since it's not a game he directs anymore and he's not passionate enough about the game anymore to the point of deciding not to make it a trilogy. What do you mean you don't see the tonal shift?? There's jokes EVERYWHERE even in the most serious of situations. It's filled with cringey quippy dialogue and reeks of fan service, it feels like a fucking marvel movie. In 2018 Atreus was established to have inherited part of Kratos's unstable nature and was revealed to be Loki and it was fucking brilliant. Where is Loki now? Where's his unstable and mischievous nature? He is replaced with an annoying teenager. Freya suddenly decided to whole revenge thing and become friends with Kratos? Like what? He murdered her son and they speak to each other like two shy lovers sometimes, what the fuck? In 2018 Thor was always depicted as a bloodthirsty monster that has the capacity to torture even her own children, murder his own people in coldblood and I wonder if you know, a lore piece explicitly tells that he even killed her own mother. Where is Thor and who is this drunk loser? Even Kratos's change in character is almost baffling. Sure his son and maybe Mimir too made him remember how to be human again yada yada, there's probably a thousand years between God of War 3 and 2018, yet his change in character ALWAYS felt natural and deserved. He still had the mentality of a warrior, never immediately trusting a stranger, never expressing his own feelings. It is SO hard to write a good quiet character yet they pulled it off masterfully. 3 years have passed and he suddenly is affectionate towards everyone, very conversational and starts a whole war that will end a pantheon for a dwarf that was literally there for the purpose of comedic relief in 2018. Even most of the music is super light-hearted compared to 2018. Atreus's theme, Alfheim's ambient music (just compare it to 2018's alfheim music), Svartalfheim's ambient music, theme of the dwarves to name a few. Muspelheim, Helheim and Alfheim is unaffected by Fimbulwinter, Alfheim's deserts are revealed to be always there and not because of Fimbulwinter. Why Nifelheim is icy now is never told so it feels just like a retcon, Asgard, Vanaheim and Svartalfheim is beautiful and no signs of Fimbulwinter (Aside from some frogs and occasional earthquakes in Svartalfheim which leads to nowhere), Jotunheim which is supposed to look dead is now just a forest inhabited by two black people who are supposed to be Nordic because someone in the team probably really wanted to become a social justice warrior (NO I'M NOT RACIST I just hate it when someone changes a piece of art just to give a stupid massage nobody cares about) In short, Ragnarok and Fimbulwinter feels like a joke and would have been much better if there was a middle game called God of War Fimbulwinter perhaps and we saw the realms slowly getting ruined by Fimbulwinter. Thrud, Sif, Angrboda, her grandmother, Skijoldr are annoying characters that serve no purpose. I'm not trying to be a dick or someone that thinks they're cool because they have a different opinion than the majority, I deeply care about this franchise and hate to see it getting ruined before my eyes otherwise I wouldn't text paragraphs about it to a stranger. Never in the series there have been a game in that had a story that just doesn't feel like it belong in this universe. God of War (including 2018) has always been a dark fantasy and now it's a marvel movie. Gameplay-wise, other than the unnecessary combat changes and some annoying enemies, it's definitely a solid game there's no doubt about it. But the way it ruined the franchise's story and killed all hope I had for the future games' story, I just cannot say that I like this game and cannot help but tell my regrets.

The World Serpent who battles Thor in Ragnarök is the young one, fresh from Atreus freeing his soul in Jötunheim. Their battle sends the Serpent back in time many years to Midgard, where he lands around the Lake of Nine. At some point he fights a younger Thor there and battles him to a stalemate, and then hibernates or something; later, Kratos and young Atreus arrive to wake him up with the axe. This "future" World Serpent basically chills during Ragnarök.

That's it! A true description of TRASHNAROK!

Maybe its just me but I feel like Kratos was too talkative in ragnarok? I always felt that a big part of his character was that he spoke with his actions rather than his words

@@Morfe02 Vidar was never mentioned by any character, both in the first one (or so I remember) and in this one, only his name appears on his armor, maybe it appears in the future because he went to another mythology, or he was another victim of the Vanir and Aesir war that ended long ago. Forsetti is a mystery, but I agree with you. The horn is also a mystery, which perhaps they will tell later, it would not be the first time they have done it, as they did with the question of how Kratos came to Nordic lands, which is answered in this game.

The woman put all her hopes in her son, and did the impossible so that both Kratos and him have a stable family relationship so that what she already knew would not happen (which is the mural where Loki joins Odin) Faye herself He says it, "I prefer a better future, for you and for our son, that will exist if I am not here, it is sad to think that he got sick on purpose so that Kratos and Atreus would have to meet each other, as a price to pay for that happens. and Surtr does not fight against them because literally Freyr and Freya distracted him so that he would not stab the sword, since that was basically the end. @@martinc8965 either way Faye in 2018 is pull like a protagonist almost, she work with dwarfs, help Vanir, FIGHT Thor, talk with Tyr about being the Guardian in Ragnarok is mention thats all, i think they could pull more characters KNOWING Faye to know but MENTION kinda sucks (the Vanir section of the game with ghosts) if we know that 2018 is like a hidden legend LOL

1:50 the snake fought Thor once he arrived into 2018 timeline. Destined to rematch Thor in Ragnarok. But that same snake didn’t fight Thor in Ragnarok. It was a new snake that fought Thor. So I’m confused

@@yokotubeneyou are just not getting it. When atreus was in ironwood(jotunheim) he gave a snake the soul of a giant called jorgumandr and that snake followed them into asgard as it grew rapidly,the other snake was chilling in midgard.

they really oversold Jormungandrs fight with thor, "a fight so violently it shakes the tree of life that it splinters" it was kinda cool looking but nothing spectacular, it feels they couldnt pay off Jormungandr fight with thor as they wanted

Compared to gow 2018 ragnarok was just kinda dissappointing for me

Ragnarok’s story is poorly written drivel. You’re right. It has a couple good moments but it’s plot is all over the fucking place. Has too many unnecessary characters. The stakes never feel high or extreme. And before Valhalla came out the way game ended was just so…. Flat and confusing.

Wait old Jormungandr never faced Thor.. Freya just mentioned Jormungandr grew larger after he appeared.. that snake is something powerful💀

I play games since 1998 and i can tell: the greatest mistake of the industry that they abandoned the trilogy idea and rushed Ragnarök to be the only sequel of the first game. Man i hoped to learn about the horn, wanted a great adventure for the Noose, and all the other things. Ragnarök is a good game, but it's only a shadow of the opportunity it could have been.

100% perfectly said. This is exactly what I’ve been saying for the last year. It was arguably my most anticipated game of all time and it fell pretty flat I’m still reeling from how underwhelming it was tbh.

what the fuck are you saying? The lore of the first game made several things clear on the table, dead gods, extermination of important giants like Ymir, you blame the game for what "could have been" and not the person responsible for making it so, as is the 2018 game. ?

"learn more about the horn and a great adventure for the noose" yea your yapping is all good and great but it doesn't leave much for an ENTIRE new game . this isn't 2005 where u can just release games and hope they do well . imagine they have to hype a game up at a gaming convention place and the story starts as a continuation immediately from the last games like GOW3 ? people who haven't played the games would immediately say "i don't wanna play this , it's only catering to returning players"

@@martinc8965 are you stupid you watch the game ? half of the story is Loki doing nothing with the mask and building a secuel with him (1 hour of walking in the forest talking about NOTHING NO LORE NO INTERESTING TALK) dont work because Ragnarok tells nothing about the other characters like Vanaheim or the rest of gods of Asgard

I was expecting that GOW 2 would be the second act that show Odin and Thor but Kratos fight other gods like Vidarr Forseti etc but at the same time they follow the lore of Giants Then Ragnarok is the third act with 2 protagonist and the epic battle like gow 3 NAHHHH all the game is ruined because they contract BABY SWEET INC to write the game exactly like TLOU 2 corpo white woman writing

Kratos should've been the one to peer into the veil. He was the one, dumb idiot Odin gave Atreus a chance when Atreus was still battling between the decisions. Kratos would've suited it better.

Odin was willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING. Including innocents & his own family. Kratos wasn’t willing to sacrifice those he loved or innocents. Yet he won… so wars aren’t won by those willing to sacrifice everything, otherwise Odin would have won?

I don’t think any these are actually how the links were intended. What I mean is that ragnaork was suppose to be 2 games. In 2 games you can explore so much. A lot of these come as half assed or retconned because these things became less priority due to the sheer scale of the game. In GOW(2018) there was so much intrigue into the Norse mythology and great interesting ways they innovated on it. I feel like ragnaork didn’t expand and didn’t live up to the lore and ideas in 2018. I felt like the way they show more of the lore was honestly boring. Shame

agreed. i think ragnorok by itself is still a good game but the story definitely took a hit. especially with what they seemed to be building up in gow 2018.

Thor and Jormungandr just didn't kill each other come Ragnarok

I was thinking about it the other day, you are right The team would be tired on working on the same project/mythology for 10y+ Cutting to 2 games is one of the reasons the story is a bit all over the place at times.... Still don't know who called the damn Serpent!
