@@TheRealHerbaSchmurba Roger’s a great voice actor as shown in his other roles. The problem wasn’t him, it was the voice direction and shitty scripts he was dealt with in the early 2010s. Sonic Boom and Frontiers show how good he actually is

It’s weird that Jason was actually worried he wasn’t doing a good job when recording Sonic X, then ironically basically being dubbed the voice of Sonic years later.

I feel like Mack was easily his own Sonic voice. Especially further into the show, his voice really starts to become unique to him. He definitely was probably initially directed to sound like RCS, but like all the Sonic actors he eventually grew into his own version

Well, he’s more of a blend of Ryan and Roger.

I wish we got more of Ryan's Sonic. He really was hitting his stride by Heroes, at a time where video game voice acting was wholly still developing. He brought this attitude to the role that I don't think has quite been matched.

If you want more of Ryan’s Sonic, there’s Sonic and Tails R by EmuEmi which not only brings back Ryan as Sonic, but a whole slew of other VAs from past and presents Sonic. Some examples are they got Jason Griffith as Shadow, Pete Capella as Silver, Lisa Ortiz as Amy, and even Mike Pollock as Eggman!

The same can be said for even Jason and Roger too. 06 and the Storybook Series really showed how Jason perfectly nailed the voice in a matter of 3-4 years. Roger always did a solid job voicing Sonic even in spite of the off putting scripts and what not. Still,all these Sonic game VAs did a really good job overall.

Ryan is the one who set the standard for how sonic should sound. Devin is doing a really good job he has alot of potential to be the best sonic for sure

Jaleel: “I’m waiting” classic for those who loved watching the sonic episodes. Jason: “You’re too slow”, literally like come on. Genius. Ryan: Needs no quotes. He is literally the original sonic voice. He paved the way for all the VAs emulations after.

5: Devin. He's not bad. 4: Ben Swarts. After 10 years of Sonic sounding like a 40 year old, he was a welcome change. Voice fit character and had the proper energy. 3. Jun'ichi Kanemaru. Fantastic actor. No complaints. Theres a reason hes been around for over 20 years. Hopefully he stays for 20 more. 2. Ryan Drummond. That dude set the gold standard for how Sonic should sound. If anyone told me he was their favorite Sonic, i would not argue at all. 1. Jason Griffith. Perfect, perfect, everything down to the last minute details. Best range, emotion, and voice. Made sonic sound a bit more mature without going overboard. In Unleashed, hes sounds more relaxed and in control. In Black Knight, it’s like Sonic was ripped straight out of the Adventure games and Jason fit that characterization just as masterfully as Ryan and Jun'ichi Kanemaru.

Really? I noticed. The Prime cast all sound different from the Studiopolis cast. Though Deven is great, it was kinda sad that Roger isn’t voicing Sonic in Prime, and nor is Mike as Dr. Eggman.

fun fact: sonic's va in CD is masato nishimura, a designer on the game! he's also the one responsible for putting the "infinite fun" message in the game, lol. for a while it was incorrectly believed that sonic's va in the game was keiko utoku, the female singer in the japanese theme song "you can do anything"

I remember when Deven was just a small VA on newgrounds specifically in T.O.M.E. to think he'd get to voice Sonic is crazy and he does it so well! I saw a comment describing his Sonic as a mix of Roger and Ryan's take on Sonic and I think that's accurate, I feel a hint of Jaleel in there too! If Sega ever retires Roger's Sonic, I hope they have Deven fill the role, he takes the best aspects of those 3's take on Sonic and rolls it into one! 🎉 he did do a couple of shows before T.O.M.E too but not many. And only 2 were more than 1 episode. The TDI series being the one he started on and is still a part of this day. This dude is awesome! But Roger is my second favorite Sonic on here! His voice fits sonic so good in the games! It's perfect for the direction they took sonic and the writing. Especially in Frontiers where the existing cast was told to take their characters in a mature, grounded and natural way, which for Roger and Mike Pollock was very close to their natural voices. Even Cindy's Amy sounded closer to her nature voice in some lines! Aside from the one offs (so prior to Jaleel as they were one time uses just to fit a voice in) I think they all did great in portraying the way their version of Sonic was written! 🎉

Yes, I agree he’s the spiritual successor to all three, Ben is good but he doesn’t have the range like deven, and deven keeps it sounding fresh.

Easily up until Frontiers he sounded extremely wooden and flat, like he did'nt really care about the role as a result it made him sound real unnatural as Sonic. Contrasting that with Collen and she actually does feel natural as Tails, they both worked with the same crap dialogue and stories but I believed her as Tails MUUUUCH more than I ever did Roger Craig Smith as Sonic.

unrelated but deven did a pretty good job emulating rodger’s version of the sonic voice they sound relatively the same.

Good compilation! Yeah...if I had to rank them, I definitely would go with: 1) Jason Griffith. Low-key biased since I grew up with his performance, but even after all these years and a bunch of Sonic media I still think he tops out. I love how he makes Sonic sound mature and kind but still can make him goofy and full of attitude as well. I really feel like he nails the vibes of Junichi's Sonic the most. 2) Ryan Drummond. I like how he makes Sonic sound like such a goofy, cocky teen?? He sounds funny to me in a really great way and he really nails the vibes of early 2000s Sonic. I also think his voice has only gotten better, considering Sonic and Tails R. 3) Deven Mack. I was surprised I liked his performance as much as I did, but it's really good and feels like if you blended Ryan and Roger's best qualities together. Been really enjoying the dude in Sonic Prime, kinda hoping he gets more work as the Blue Blur in the future. I also can't help but be partial to Martin Burke's voice, it's got this weird charm to it even though I like Jaleel too. Martin is still Classic Sonic in my head.

Actually Ryan hits the vibes of Jun’Ichi the most, not Jason. Ryan and Jun’Ichi sound similar compared to with Jason. When it comes to Sonic’s real personality, Ryan fits more.

Roger Craig Smith & Ben Schwartz are the greatest & best voices of Sonic the Hedgehog of all time! Hands down! They both make Sonic sound awesome! Nothing & nobody will EVER change my mind!

Tbh, Jason gets enough appreciation. More than half the fanbase prefers Jason over Ryan and Roger. I’m not saying he’s bad, but he’s overrated. Roger is under-appreciated, though. Idk why people still hate him after his excellent performance in Frontiers.

Jason is actually overrated. And I mean really, REALLY overrated. Of all Sonic VAs, people praise Jason the most just because they grew up with Sonic X. There is barely anyone who hates Jason out here, and there are plenty of people who hate on Ryan and Roger (even though I don’t like Roger.) I don’t even understand why people like Jason the most either, he sounds too serious and doesn’t have the slightest edgy gruff that Ryan has that makes Ryan sound awesome, he sounds too mellow. Unleashed is probably his only good performance.

Man you can see the whole character development in Jason's voice clips. He started as a Ryan clone then slowly turns Sonic into a mature and calm while his cockiness only show up when he's in action. JG still goat

Ryan and Jason are the best IMO. Hard to pick a favorite there. Love em both.

I love how sonic sounds more and more mature with each voice. Roger's my favorite, btw.

Roger is the best for me. I grew up with Jason and was introduced to adventure afterwards and I loved both ot their voices. Martian Bruke was weird to me at first, but nowadays, I really enjoy it. Jaleel White was so familiar to me, then I realized it was because it was Steve fucking Urkel! So I was immediately attached to the voice. But then came Roger. My introduction to him was through Sonic Colors. At first I was wondering why they switched from Griffith to Roger. Griffith was doing such a great job. The shock of the switch really hit me when I played Mario and Sonic London Olympics after playing Winter Olympics. It was odd, but I liked it. Especially in the London Olympics. I realized he just needs good voice direction. In which we got in Sonic Boom, however those games were awful, then I watched the TV show and that’s when he truly became my favorite voice for sonic. Now I just needed a good mainline game with good voice direction. And my prayers were answered with Sonic Frontiers. While I prefer his boom voice more, frontiers shows us a more melancholic version of Roger’s Sonic and I absolutely love it. I think Roger has the most range out of all the Sonic voice actors aside from his Japanese VA. I hold Roger and Jun’ichi on the highest pedestals for Sonic’s voice Ben Schwartz is someone that I follewed for a while because of his work as randy cunningham. So when i heard that he’d be the voice for movie sonic, I was BEYOND excited. However, once I actually heard his voice, or rather, his dialogue in the movie, it got rather annoying sometimes. He has the right voice, just not the right dialogue. I also have this problem with Deven Mack. I KNOW Devin is an incredible voice actor, however I can’t listen to him say “Yaaaawn. That’s right, I yawned you eggman” and NOT physically recoil from cringe. His voice delivery is amazing, but that line of dialogue will never be good to me.

Honestly Jaleel is canonically the voice of classic Sonic for me. I used to be a Griffith fanboy but lately Drummond's voice just feels perfect for modern Sonic.

All of them did an amazing job

Jason Griffith was peak sonic voice, I don’t think anyone has matched him since, though tbh Ben Schwartz is actual a close second, just the dialogue for him isn’t written like the games just yet

Ryan is a match for Jason. Jason is not as much of a match to Ryan from how amazing Ryan did in SA2/Heroes, even though Jason did great in Unleashed. Sorry but it’s true.

Honestly, Roger is great and I’m glad he’s staying, but with most here, I agree Jason is just amazing at it! Maybe it’s because Sonic Riders is my favourite Sonic game, but his voice acting in that game was insane! It just conveyed Sonic’s “do what’s right no matter what” energy, but also nailed that he does have emotion and can’t just keep going and going and going… kinda like what Roger does, but Roger can mainly only do the latter. Not to mention he also voiced Jet in the same game and was so good, he constantly cracked his voice at the end of every sentence to sound like squawking. The dude has insane talent and some of the most iconic lines I remember are “huh, new competition!” and “so you’re supposed to be the fastest thing alive?”

Jason’s voice acting for Sonic in Riders was garbage. He sounded too much like a Ryan Drummond impression there to the point that he sounded too corny. His voice acting for Jet was badass, though. Better than the Free Riders voice for Jet. But overall, they should’ve let Ryan Drummond voice in Riders just like how they should’ve had it in Shadow The Hedgehog.

Sonic's voice in CD was Naoto Oshima one of the creators of sonic

I kinda hope Deven Mack gets more chances, he sounds like a perfect successor to the Ryan/Jason era

Ryan voice is my favorite, he has the energy and the smug tone Sonic has (in my opinion). But tbh, I like all the voices, even the older ones (nostalgia factor). Well... Minus the demonic indian one.
