Every Shot | Tiger Woods Wins 2nd Career Grand Slam | 134th Open Championship

Спорт

Five years after his maiden Open victory at St Andrews, the indomitable Tiger Woods was playing for his second Claret Jug at The 134th Open in 2005, also at St Andrews!
Woods led from wire-to-wire to claim his tenth major title, beating runner-up Colin Montgomerie by five shots.
This victory secured the American’s second major Grand Slam of his career at the age of just 29, becoming the first player under 30 to achieve the feat.
Every shot from the final round of this career-defining triumph is here for you to enjoy.

Storytime. Tiger had one of his best warmup sessions of his career on the range prior to this round. He hit sandwedges where the ball hit the center zero on the 100-yard sign like 10 times in a row. Hank Haney, Tiger's swing-coach at the time, watched him do this, and he actually told Tiger's caddy, Steve Williams, that he should probably remind Tiger to aim slightly away from the flag on short approaches, or he might hit the pin and bounce off. Steve just laughed it off; Tiger might be Tiger, but surely even he can't be at risk of hitting flags due to being TOO accurate!? Well, guess what happened on the 6th hole: 8:42...

That shot, and the two next holes, tiger ball went over the hole on every one of those approaches. Just unimaginable. Especially with the wind factor. He nails the pin, next hole spins it back 8ft and rolls over edge, and then his par 3 tee shot is inches from trickling in. I had to watch it twice because it happened so fast.

Likely the greatest golfer ever. But Tiger is absolutely the greatest range hero ever according to coaches and pros.

@@lkae4 Yeah! I also heard Hank Haney say in an interview that in his career he's coached hundreds of professional golfers, and the one who has been the absolute worst at "taking their game from the range to the course" is Tiger Woods. By far. That's just absurd on its own haha...

I’ll do you one better, 2011 doral wgc tournament. The range at the time had palm trees at 200 yards out, and 2011 swing was his foley backbreaking swing that was hard to control. Yet at range hit 3 stingers to the trunk of palm tree back to back to back, he went out to shoot a 66 that could’ve been a 60, just putter was not cooperating, and it was a windy day, he was unbelievable

It’s amazing because coming off of watching him these last two days you can tell the difference in the way he plays his shots compared to now and tell how much his body has endured over his career. But it’s nice to know that at one point he was this way and while I don’t think he can get back to that level consistently I believe that he can do this from time to time if he plays his cards right and balances his schedule versus his recovery

What a wonderful temperament he has for the game of golf, if I could hit the ball like that, I would have a wonderfull temperament for the game of golf! I think we all would. His steel trap mind is different, there is one of his many weapon’s.
