Every Shop Needs This (Portable Bandsaw Conversion)

Dad is back with a fun build that dad thinks every shop should have. He is doing a portable bandsaw conversion. Dad is converting this bandsaw into a vertical bandsaw. This is a very affordable build for around $150.

I did this and it's great. It does what I hoped it would. I got a table/stand on Amazon to make it bench top, I don't have the tools and materials to easily make my own. It came with a Velcro strip for the trigger and I had an outlet on a switch to plug it into. I was looking into getting a band saw about the time you uploaded this. I have a small shop and need my equipment to be compact while still having enough power, so this was just what I needed. Thanks for the recommendation.

Wow you made this complicated! I'm a custom knives as a hobby. I made the bower saw into a vertical metal bandsaw a couple of years ago. The flat plate was just made out of 1/8-in aluminum that works great! By using slightly longer screws I was able to leave the original steel underneath the aluminum plate so that anytime I want it to take it out of the stand and use a portable I could do that by simply removing the two screws and then putting them back in again.

I put one together with a Dewalt portable bandsaw and a manufactured table. After cutting my thumb in half, the only shortcoming of this design is the lack of a guard that comes down the blade like a traditional metal cutting bandsaw. I wish somebody would design and sell an attachable guard that would allow you to put whatever thickness of metal you want through it but keep fingers from the blade. No I’m not an amateur, I’ve been using a bandsaw for 35 years, but all it takes is one slip with a blade that is as exposed as what you see in this video. Yes, I was using a push stick. Just a thought.

Hey thanks. Been running a torch on payroll since I was 10 years old. Good times. It’s holding up great so far. Buy good and expensive blades. It’s worth it. Cheers Dad

They now have the saw in Hercules, corded or 20v brushless. I have the Bauer at home on the Hercules stand and the Hercules 20v at work. Both seem to be extremely well made.

I like a maker that isn't too good for some harbor freight tools. A lot of their stuff these days is actually quite good. There are some things that are no good but overall I"ve had a great experience with Harbor Freight. I also like the compact footprint of the store. Home Depot and Lowes are so big and crowded and nobody is ever at the front to check you out even though there are a couple hundred employees roaming the store.
