I hate job scams as much as charity scams. The worst was in 2020 but even before then it was making it difficult to actually start a life on my own

Dude, people who get their first phone or if they are about to turn into an adult should watch this. This is very underrated

I had a call from someone claiming to be from Social Security this morning! His number was shown in my caller ID and he said that he "needed to clarify something I'd entered into my renewal paperwork because I'd given 2 different answers on 2 questions that asked the same thing (I *am* on disability). He asked me "can you confirm your home address and birthdate?" I said *"No! I won't do that. How do I know that you are who you say you are?" and he gave me this weak line about calling from Wilkes-Barre, PA, (the city on the caller ID) and I said, "I know Wilkes-Barre! I'm from Philly!" Where is the office at?" He hemmed and hawed an answer, so I said, I'll happily call Social Security to verify that this paperwork has a problem." But he hung up. Imagine that..

I've always hated the insinuation you're stupid if you fall for a scam. You could've been sick and not thinking clearly or having an off day, and a lot of scams are genuinely very smart and can pull you in, even when you're very well informed on scams (And I say this knowing someone who was very conscious of scams and smart, but he still fell for one of their tricks recently)

The scammers have been out like crazy lately

The type of real estate scam I usually encounter is some fake real estate company wanting to buy an apartment our family put an online advert for rent ages ago. More than often, they sound like they're calling from inside a bunker, some of them had strong French accents. The number is usually (supposedly) from Switzerland or Belgium. Joke's on them though, my dad already sold that apartment years ago, so they are merely an annoyance.

I actually might have come in contact with a tech support scam once. I was trying to play an emulated game online, and it made me allow something to send me notifications. I was immediately bombarded with "YOUR LAPTOP HAS A VIRUS" notifs, clicked the website link, noticed it wasn't the McAfee security I use, and turned off notifications. After a quick sweep with the REAL McAfee, I think I can safely say I dodged that bullet.

You might should have mentioned classified ad scams where classic car collectors and other hobbyists like pinball machine collectors, use classified ads to buy items or parts for them. Scammers use a variety of tricks to get you to send them money upfront when you think you're buying something. Often with these scammers, they'll tell you they have a highly valuable tough to find part you've been searching for months or years and hope you're so excited, you'll immediately send the money. Yeah, they got me this way, but fortunately for only $65

Got a scam call from a IT firm from Bosnia as in that I have a problem with my pc. I replied with "no hablo español" before ending the call and blocking the number. Next time with "Latine non loquor".

They are usually called skimmers. However with increasing security on credit cards people are having less trouble. Either way if you have concerns, go inside the station to pay.

I've been getting 2 to 12 calls a day that are mostly about medicare. They always use robocalls.
