Every Pet Parents WORST Nightmare

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

My dog Chopper and I were on a walk when a pitbull attacked him. This is our story of how the attack happened and how Chopper is doing now. I also want to use this to remind pet owners how important it is to train, socialize, have proper gear, and be able to handle their own so they can keep everyone safe outside.

The fact that the dog attacked unprovoked from so far away is an extreme reaction. No way this is the first time this dog was aggressive. I’m so angry at the owner, because that dog will end up being killed itself after it kills someone else’s beloved pet. It all could’ve been prevented by training, proper equipment (that leash is a joke and reactive dogs need muzzles for everyone’s safety), and an owner who can physically handle their dog. I’m so sorry this happened to Chopper and you. Take care of yourselves❤

First of all a lot of pit bull attacks are by rescue dogs. A lot of dog for small amount of money. Chow and pit bull are two of the most aggressive dogs in the world. In order to avoid injury to dogs or people I carry bear spray. No dogs get injured and no vet bills. The other dogs owners get very angry but I tell them to go wash their dogs quickly. Lowers the drama. Here is nothing else you can do about stupid owners but try to avoid hurting people or dogs. I walk a large CO and don't risk killing other dogs (yes even put bulls). Police are mostly interested in making sure rabies are not involved as death rate for people not treated in time is 100%.

I don't agree with you in total. I have a LGB cross und despite training and having a dog sibling, he is agressive towarts other dogs. There is no lack of training from my side, he has his own agenda. He is smart, he acts normal during dog training but once outside without a trainer he is an a55. So he wears a muzzle to keep every dog and himself save.

I'm 75 and have a 95lb Catahoula, Jackson. As the owner of a large dog whose breed is known for being aggressive, it's my responsibility to make sure he is properly trained, has the right collar and leash, and is socialized. I have spent hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars training him. He is fully off-leash trained, but I'm still careful around other dogs and owners. Whenever I've run into a problem with another dog, it's always been with an owner who was not willing to put in the work to train and socialize their dog. So glad to see that Chopper is recovering.

Had a lady in my block walk her dog without a leash (illegally). The dog was probably about 5'6ft tall if it stood on 2 legs. It saw my 2, 10lb dogs, about 40 yards away and starting running towards us aggressively. I knew it was impossible to outrun a dog, so all I could do was try to get between it and my 2 rotisserie doggos. The lady was some small ass lady that couldn't control her dog at all. She threw her entire body on top of it trying to hold her dog down to no avail. I'm just sayin, don't own a dog you can't handle. This shit is so irresponsible. Glad Chopper was already looking in good spirits after just 2 days 🙏

I would often pick up my small dog if I saw other dogs, but back in May 1986, while walking my mini-dach, Mitzi, in a park, she was suddenly grabbed by a vicious (unleashed) pit bull who seemed to come out of no where, and picked her up in its jaw and flung her around violently. I still remember the sheer terror I felt and Mitzi screaming. Long story short: Mitzi pulled through after going through emergency surgery but was left with a permanent scar physically, and I suspect emotionally, too. All these years later, I still remember the horror of the incident.

Earlier tonight my husky and I were attacked by a lone German Shepard. I'm literally sitting here trying to calm down and fall asleep after what happened earlier. I cannot believe your video popped up. I'm watching your video and my heart is so heavy. I can relate to you in so many ways. You feel so helpless. I kept screaming over and over for someone to come help us. I hoped someone would come outside to restrain the dog. But nobody came. Thankfully, I was able to momentarily blind the dog with my flashlight. We were able to get away, and finally a man came running over to help us. The entire situation makes me feel sick. My heart goes out to you. Big hugs to you and yours.

If it’s a really bad emergency tho, you’d prob just want to go right for the pepper spray tho. But both could be good to carry, as well as a pocket knife if necessary! I am a dog walker with multiple pit bull clients. This is a list of failures on the part of the owner, first off using a retractable leash on such a powerful dog. All pb’s i walk have a strong leash and either have a harness with an extra handle on it so i can grab them if necessary, or a prong collar (not my favorite, but some dogs unfortunately are only responsive to that). I myself have been attacked by large dogs, and my own dog was mauled as well. You did everything you could in the situation and i am happy to see that chopper is doing well.

Me too!! 😢I’m a HUGE animal lover and owner…and a rescue volunteer…this happens a lot with a couple small dogs that live down our street who are pretty aggressive and whose owners NEVER put them on leashes or in their yard.on multiple occasions I’ve found them down our driveway in our back yard and had to figure out a way to get them back to their apartment down the street without getting attacked… it’s a big problem for any owner to let their dogs out off leash or unattended around here and honestly it’s never a good idea nor is it safe…even IF it’s a small dog or a dog that walks beside you without a leash.ONE CAN NEVER KNOW OR PREDICT what circumstances might come up and derail you’re ideas or plans…even if the dog is well behaved or calm or friendly… other dogs might not be. Besides that as just proven in this situation, you might not be able to control your pet once they decide to go after something or someone once it’s happening…and if not leashed it can go south very quickly.even if the dog is on a leash if it outweighs you or is bigger than you are, you’re success rate of controlling the situation is very slim if it decides to attack simply on size alone. So please, anyone considering getting a dog, keep in mind that size and strength matter a great deal in those kind of situations and get a pet dog that you can handle easily. Wishing Chopper a speedy recovery ❤️‍🩹 🐾✌🏻

@@Dunno_Nia Pit bull is now an umbrella term for bully breeds and mixes, especially in the U.S. They didn't specifically say American Pit Bull Terrier, when people say pit bull, it means all bully breeds that were bred for fighting and bull baiting. Also, in American, the AKC doesn't recognize the APBT but changed the name to American Staffordshire Terrier, only certain kennel clubs recognize the APBT, such as the UKC where you can even dual register them as APBT and AmStaffs. Hope this helps! The typical APBT in the U.S. is often not registered and even the AKC acknowledges their tenacity even under extreme pain. Which you can see in hundreds of videos of these dogs attacking, they just don't stop. Even the pit bull who attacked the horse with the carriage, he was kicked so hard he flew under the carriage and still went back for more, eventually dying from the damage it received. Other breeds would let preservation of themselves kick in and run away after a decent kick from a horse, but pit bulls lack that and that is the difference between them and other breeds because genetics do matter. A herding breed herds, a retriever retrieves, a pointer points and pit bulls are relentless fighters. This is why it is crucial not to spout lies about nanny dog this and nanny dog that, strong handlers and not first time dog owners should be the only people getting these breeds. The Bernards is another example, they had two American Bullies/Pit bull type dogs they had raised for 8 years, were avid pit bull supporters, raised them in a loving home, spouted about how it's not the breed but the owners and then the day happened where both dogs attacked and killed the toddler, ripped the 5 months old from moms arms and then turned their attention onto mom and she survived with severe damage done to her. Find a story of a poodle or golden doing that to their own family after living in the home for 8 years. Friends of the family said these dogs showed no signs of aggression prior to this either, they were sweet loving dogs, until they weren't and the mom could not save her babies from their tenacity. These dogs should be leashed, muzzled and contained at all times. Owners get them under the guise of them being family pets, they are large breed of dog that were meant to kill things, like most terriers were. Even Jack Russel terriers were bred for killing, and I grew up with JRT's. No matter how much training there was, they would still kill a rat if given the chance. Pit bulls were bred to kill large animals. You can't just turn off instinct and genetics.

It is our responsibility for the dog’s safety and others as soon as we bring home a puppy. It doesn’t matter the breed you are responsible for your dog. At 10 months old my boy was attacked by a shepherd mix, a yellow lab and an Australian shepherd. The first dog took his puppy hood and forever changed him. I want you to know that there are owners out there that actually care for their dogs properly and for others safety. That’s awful! Something similar happened to my dog, it was also a pitbull and his mouth was almost entirely over our dog. You could only see his tail and a bit of his head. but before he could do something he was pulled off if it weren’t for that I don’t think he would still be with us today. These people let their dog walk without a leash and had had incidents before and after this one they still let him off the leash where he could hurt another dog. The place they let the dogs loose is also nearby a school with young children. I personally am always very wary of pitbull dogs, since they have been bred to be more aggressive or atleast were commonly used in dog fights. But most importantly because most pitbull owners take them because of this reputation, don’t train them at all and are careless.

Thank you for sharing your story, very glad to see and hear that you both are recovering. Please also take time to heal and care for yourself as well, the trauma from an encounter like this is very real. Your story reminds me of a time when my pup was about 10 months old, we were at the park doing some leashed training and minding our own business when out of nowhere, a golden came up from the side through some bushes. I recognized this golden, I have seen his owner walk him around on a gentle leader - and he seemed to still be very much in training. Apparently they decided to give it a try letting him play off leash that day - this is the first time I have ever seen this dog off leash. Just judging from the direction he came from, he had literally run across an entire open green space just to come to us. The dog sniffed some of our stuff that I had left on a bench - and we were actually walking away from the bench my pup was focused dead ahead at something else - and suddenly circled the golden around to come up to my pup, literally right up to her face and get territorial. I got between her and the dog, he would not back up, my pup was a reactive dog too (not aggressive but she is always very curious about other dogs and people). I was shouting at him trying to get him to back up, and honestly I was ready to punch this dog if I had to just to get him away from us. What were his owners doing? Slowly making their way up to him, calling his name, extremely lax, not a lick of urgency - and honestly it is appalling because I was straight up yelling and there was no way they could not have heard me. The golden eventually turned back when they were close enough, and the first thing they did was scold him. I was pissed, I really wanted to scream at the owners, and I probably should have, but I just wanted to get myself and my pup out of the situation. We were very lucky that the encounter didn't get physical, but I could sense that it could have really gone south if it had gone on any longer. One of the thoughts that crossed my mind during this encounter was, 'My pup is only 10 months old, she's not even a year old. This is not happening today.' We haven't seen that dog at the park since the incident. I hope his training is going well, and his owners a bit more responsible than before.

I know this is an awe full feeling. We adopted a Rottweiler that wanted to eat our other female dog Ladybug. She was soo traumatized. Three other dogs have come into my home since then. ladybug is healing every day from being around other dogs that don’t want to eat her. Poor Chopper. Hope he heals well.

I'm so sorry for you and I believe fully in my heart there aren't really bad dogs but terrible owners. First a pit bull should never and I repeat NEVER be on a retractable leash. I'm glad he's ok. I'm also glad to see you didn't get attacked. Your message is loud and clear. Sending all the love.

Dog attacks and dog fights can be difficult to handle especially when it’s a situation that feels like life or death. I’m so sorry this happened to you. You handled the situation as best as anyone could. ❤ I worked at a doggy daycare for quite some time and we did have dog fights every once in a while, so here are some tips for everyone to help y’all incase you find yourself in a similar situation. Identifying the aggressor helps a lot because usually the aggressor keeps going back in for the fight while the other dog is just trying to defend itself. You can lift their back legs by holding onto their upper thighs and while doing this pull them away from the non aggressor as far as possible. Sometimes dogs don’t let go when they’re biting down on other dogs even if your trying to separate them, so I definitely recommend a portable break stick to take on walks or something similar just in case. 💕

I experienced the same with my dog. We were walking around our village with my Pomeraninan pet and a Jack Russell Terrier approached us and bit my dog aggressively, never letting go despite my dog trying to flee so many times. He ended up getting admitted to the vet so he could get stitched because he was bleeding profusely. It was so scary and I feel so terrible for my dog for having gone through such a traumatizing experience. Glad he recovered well but it was so hard caring for him for the next 2 weeks. I hope Chopper recovers well. Virtual hugs to you. 🫶🏼

So glad Chopper is okay. You did a great job of protecting him and your instincts to take over the other dog were correct. He loves you for that and sees your efforts. I hope that your sweet boy will continue to socialize happily with other dogs and that this won’t traumatize him. My Chihuahua just got attacked last night by a boxer. Picked her up right before he could get a good chomp on her abdomen, but her skin still ripped and she had to get 9 stitches. The absolute worst night of my life.

I literally started crying. I’m so glad your dog is OK. I know it’s like for your dog to get attacked. There’s a dog down the road and it always attacks me and my dog and the owner doesn’t even care. She doesn’t even try to get her dog and she just keeps saying her dog wants to play. It’s not I even got a video of it if you wanna go check it out thankfully I stopped it before it could bite her.

A big husky killed our duck Quill, on May 1st. We are trying to share the same message. We dont blame the dog, we blame the irresponsible owners. But the pain is still so raw. His neck was snapped and he died so quickly. 😭 We are still recovering and healing. But nothing will bring our baby back. Please please keep your dogs trained and on a proper leash so that these things dont happen to sweet innocent babies like Chopper and like Quill.
