There actually is a mistake in this video: at 8:31 the on-screen graphics attribute the error to the previous video rather than to "Britain once forgot how long an inch is". Especially ironically, this is immediately after you say that errors in on-screen graphics don't count, during the clip which has an error in its onscreen graphics.

I met him in Phantasialand in september of this year. My friend and I had seen him walking by and we weren't sure it was him, but when we exited a rollercoaster we saw him eating something. We mustered up the courage and said hi and thank you for all his videos. He gave me an elbow since his hands were dirty from eating a taco or something. We clearly startled him a bit (kinda felt bad for it afterwards) but he remained really nice and friendly, such a great human being

9:29 I know you aren't counting mispronunciations but I just had to be that guy. Geelong is pronounced juh-long, as Australians love to reduce the amount of effort used to articulate their sentences as much as physically possible for some reason. (possibly the most miniscule error ever but I was searching for one for irony's sake and Tom is really good at this)

Haha I was like ‘oh no, poor Geelong’ :-P that being said across the universe of KZreadrs talking about Australia, I feel like Melbourne and Brisbane seem to have the most unique pronunciations. That being said, someone from Sydney once asked me where Mordialloc was, and they pronounced it More-die-allock, and I was like… sorry where?

I love the way Tom serves the internet by doing what it was created for, exchanging information. Tom has always collected as much information (and fact checked it)as he could just for us to devour in a weekly video. And to come clean after ten years to correct yourself with a final factcheck just shows how seriously he takes this. Tom , thankyou for 10 years of entertainment!!!

Awesome video, but just as awesome were the people digging up muck behind Tom. I loved their dialogue (in my head) about "great muck over here" and "a watery tart lobbing swords about is no basis for a system of government!"

Worth noting that the Gandhi thing does exist, just not as a bug but an intended feature in Civ 5 in 2010. The claim of a bug in the original game started around 2 years later in 2012 when it appeared on fact sites and TV Tropes. It wasn't till 2020 that the game's creator, Sid Meir, said it wasn't even possible for the bug to occur due to how aggression was programmed.

@@Zack_Wester , according to the ones that wrote the programming for the game, the code wasn't even set up in such a way that the bug could have existed. The explanation for how the bug worked came from a random person on the internet and didn't even accurately represent how the game was coded. So it only could have existed in a complete knock off and not in any version of the actual game.

Never thought I would hear Geelong in a Tom Scott video! Even if he got the intonation wrong 😅

Mad props to you for creating a video that showcases your mistakes! It shows your dedication to giving correct information, which not enough people are focused on.

I was about to say, this video surely introduced a new mistake if it assumes that all mistakes have been caught. There's always something!

Honestly, I have immense respect for the creators who go back and are willing to admit their mistakes and do good by correcting them. There are those who willingly spread false statements by refusing to admit when they're wrong or knowingly make false statements and they simply can't be trusted. When someone is willing to say "I was wrong and here's the correction," I know that they can be trusted... At least as far as one can trust a personality on KZread. Thank you for this, Tom.

Mad respect, Tom. All these years and videos is a lot of work for entertaining us. Not only that, you're a man that embraces admitting mistakes rather than gloss over or hide them. You are the man.

This is why I've followed your videos for years. The humility to admit your mistakes and improve constantly is testament to what you are trying to do.

Tom Scott has a bio that says "These are some of the things I've made and done. They'll probably come back to haunt me in a few years' time." I guess now is the time they're back to haunt him. What a nice closing arc for the series.

One of my favorite things about Tom Scott videos is the whole “one take” lecture mantra. Much appreciate the higher attention span aspect of the videos.

It will be a sad day when Tom posts his last regular Monday video. But he's earned a hell of a break plus it's not like he doesn't have several other (thankfully metaphorical) plates spinning. Do as he says and watch/listen to Lateral. It's one of my favorite podcasts and it's always a welcome sight to see a new episode in my list. @@Pfooh I am wondering if this has something to do with where Tom's Germans are actually from and what type of accent they are used to hearing. I am from Austria and I definitley heard the man say 'Schusswaffen' and not 'Schutzwaffen'. I would also like to note that 'Schutzwaffen' usually refers to passive weapons like armour rather than active weaponry like firearms used for defensive purposes.

Really appreciate you doing this kind of thing given the vast amount of misinformation (and even disinformation) online. This is one of the many reasons you have built up such a large following who respect what you do. Plus, if you can summarise all of your mistakes across 10 years in just 12 minutes, you're not doing badly at all!

Great video. I for one appreciate that you've been willing to keep up older videos. While it might be embarassing, it is helpful for people to be able to see how far you have come. I hope the next ten years bring you many more creative endeavors :)

Immediately I noticed Poniatowski bridge in the background due to living here in Warsaw. I hope that I'm correct and the last shot of Warsaw Spire is a teaser to a video that you're working on! If so I love that you sneakly included that, it's an awesome touch!

The irony in that you've made a mistake in the video title at 8:30! It's still the video title from Fetch-Execute Cycle! In seriousness: Great work, Tom, I don't think *anyone* else on the platform would put quite this much effort into correcting themselves.

Anybody else got an advert at the exact moment Clarkson finished saying "Time for a break"? Perfect timing... And Tom, don't beat yourself up too much over a couple of silly errors. Your videos are awesome. Thanks for them =)

I'd disagree slightly. Correctly pronounced it's Jee-LONG. Still a "long e", but the stress placed on the second syllable. Of course, in common speech the 'e' is eventually abbreviated to non-existence, hence 'j-LONG', or 'juh-LONG' if you then slow it back down.

Honestly the only thing I can find to say is the massive respect I've got for your work ethic and seeing how you obviously value accuracy and truth in your videos, I never had any doubt that if any of your videos had any mistakes, they were never by any means intentional. I'd also agree with others that a 12 minutes video to cover the mistakes made in almost 10 years is just so little, it's proof in itself of how good your research and videos are!

I have played Civilization 1 when it originally came out. When playing the version which came on floppy disks and had "copy protection" that required you to answer questions from the manual to keep playing; Gandhi would threaten you with nuclear weapons. When playing later versions of the same game, such as from the Sid Meier's collection on CD, he didn't. Rather than a collective, international false memory; I think we are talking about a simple post-release bug fix.

Putting the KZread ads at 8:43 actually made me laugh.

5:45 Mistake in the correction, too. *Turbines do not spin thousands of times per minute.* That, too, would be incredibly fast. The correct time frame to reach thousands is a full hour.

The turbines in a thermal power plant (like coal) for spin thousands of times per minute. A wind turbine does not, but he was talking about thermal ones.

In a steam or gas turbine driven alternator in a modern power station the rotor runs at precisely 3000 rpm in a grid providing 50 Hz power, or 3600 rpm in 60 Hz systems. The rotational speed is derived from the number of poles in the alternator and the power frequency. So yes, it does rotate a thousands of revolutions per minute.

I applaud your tenacity, to call out yourself on the information that you reported on was incorrect, admirable sir. I wish every social media communicator could find it their hearts to do the same.

I've literally never watched one of these videos before so I'm not sure why this was the video youtube recommended to me but I found it very entertaining and am impressed by your attention to detail and effort to correct yourself so I guess youtube got it right. Happy holidays everyone

Kudos for addressing mistakes you made. Not everyone owns up to their mistakes- let alone learns from them. Hence why I tend to applaud those who do. Keep it up.

It could be that KZread scans every video for people saying things like that…? Or Tom designated the ad space when he uploaded it. Not sure.

I am going to miss the guarantee of a Tom video every Monday but I am still grateful for everything you have made and everything to come; enjoy being able to take a proper break Tom!

I absolutely adore that you take the time to make videos like this. We will truly be at a loss once you finally stop making videos.

Don't be so hard on yourself, your videos have inspired me for years and I appreciate all your efforts. Keep up the good work, mistakes are invertible, in fact some of the greatest discoveries were made by "mistake". So keep pushing and keep up the great work

Great video, Tom! And, yes, there's a mistake in this one too, related to the toasters: Resistors aren't charged by capacitors, capaciors are charged by resistors.

Resistors are meant to limit current, right? I'd say capacitors are charged by an electrical power source and the resistor is there to make sure the capacitor can't charge past its limit?

As an adage goes that I heard from someone once, 'Finding out you've made a mistake can be painful; however, it is better than _not_ finding out'

A man like this, who spreads colossal amounts of knowledge but still has the ability to admit when he is wrong and keep learning deserves absolute respect and should serve as an example to all future generations.
