I live in South Korea. Son Heung-min is everywhere. Coffee, banks, beer, razor blades, chewing gum, ramen etc. He is almost omnipresent. The first thing people ask when I say I'm from England is asking if I know Son. Actually watching Korea in the WC was a lot more fun than England. Really happy to see Hwang smashing it and doing it on the big stage to make this amazing country proud.

Purely anecdotal but I hear about and see pictures of Son a lot more than BTS. My students also idolize him more than any of BTS. Of course BTS are still gargantuan, but Son is a national hero.
Sonny is certainly the best we've had to offer to the league, Hwang is an uncut gem. But Park Ji Sung is a legend, truly underrated and the first to show what Korean players were capable of. I hope the league continues to produce world class Koreans.

It's alot harder for non-EU players to get into the Premier League due to obtaining a work permit. I believe that players from AFC asian region need to have represented their national teams 80% over the past couple years to even get a work permit in the UK if I'm not mistaken.
Son is a legend. One of my fav players of all time
Since he was mentioned as the Korean guy, I'm glad Hwang Hee-chan gets more recognition that he deserves from his performance with Wolves 💛

Except Pep didn’t mean it as disrespect; sitting through thirty minutes of mundane, click bait questions from reporters must be mind numbingly boring. He also struggles to express clearly what he wants to say in English. He knows who the player is just couldn’t think of his name. Funnily enough you knew who he was referring to, so he got his point across.

Him and Sonny always seem to discredit themselves when they talk about their own ability. The word "lucky" always come out from their mouths. It's not luck, it's the hard work they've been in throughout the years in order for them to reach where they are right now. Very humble professionals

Glad to see Hwang getting some deserved spotlight. Dude is killing it this season and it isn't talked about enough
Love the Korean guy ❤
Korean players often give credit to their team or say that they were lucky, even after they have performed exceptionally well due to their talent and tremendous effort. They are humble players, but I sometimes wonder if that is why they are not recognized as much as they deserve. I think they get less attention because they are so exemplary and good, and I think the fact that they are from Asia instead of Europe also prevents them from getting the recognition they deserve. If Korean players were from Europe, they would be recognized much more highly than they are now.

Culturally very typical and what I'd expect from a fellow Korean, yeah. It's mostly coming from an upbringing of social capability to "read the room" and understand collective empathy vs individualism. Doesn't mean there aren't assholes, but by the time you're a public figure, in South Korea there's a lot of scrutiny on you to be a model citizen.

No, Ki Sung-Yong publicly insulted his national team manager on his social media; and he formed cliques with Europe-based players because he felt domestically based players were inferior. A Swansea FC fan mentioned that Ki told Laudrup to "F*** off!" when Laudrup asked where he was when Korean execs came for a visit to Swansea in order to talk about commercial deals that Ki was supposed to participate in. That in a nutshell represents Ki, who just disappeared when his team needed him most of the time. When he was out injured, he nearly always gained lots of weight. So even his dad publicly admitted that Laudrup told Ki that he is unreliable as a professional. A few years ago, a lady came forward with "Me too" accusations about Ki. In other words, Ki was a massive disappointment all around. Can't believe he married a stunning actress, but "religious affiliation" masks a lot of things.

Football is a popular sport worldwide. The same goes for Korea.. PL is famous league in the world.. According to facts, Baseball has long been one of the most popular sports in Korea. However, the popularity of football has caught up with baseball, and the K-league, the Korean football league, continues to grow in popularity. Koreans are not only passionate about one sport, football, but enjoy various sports. Along with famous players in other sports, Son Heung-min is one of the most popular players.
I think Lee Chung-yong is a unfortunate player.. Lee Chung-yong was a technician player.. He previously played for a team called Bolton in the Premier League and performed well for that team.. If he hadn't suffered a serious injury, he was a good enough player that there would have been rumors of a transfer to Liverpool at the time.. A serious injury took away everything from him.. After the injury he never regained his previous form
@PJOh

Lee Chung-yong's career looks not so different from a Korean baseball player named Kim Byeong-hyeon (Kim Byung-hyun). Kim ruined his own career because he was eating comfort foods like stadium hotdogs and didn't bother learning how to eat properly. This is why his fastball lost so much velocity so quickly, and his muscles shrank just as quickly. Similar reasons are behind the fact Lee always faded about a third of the way into the season; and why he needed months of rest sometimes. I think Lee is partly to blame for his inability to recover more quickly from injury and physically demanding activity. I remember when Lee Young-Pyo invited him to eat so that he could show him what to eat, as Lee was not eating properly.
