Pongal is not a Hindu festival. It is a Thamizh festival even Muslims and Christians celebrate Pongal. Pongal is a secular celebration to reiterate that சுழன்றும் ஏர்பின்னது உலகம் "even though the earth spins, only the plough can sustain it".
