@@AngelsCreed-jo5fp no it doesn't unless they have changed something since the last time I played SWTOR regarding the Scilencer. Basically the Scilencer was a fleet killer super weapon that could be mounted in the space between the port and starboard forward prongs of the Harrower and could easily take out Republic fleets. There was a point in the story where its stated the Republic was developing countermeasures to the Scilencer weapon but I forget the outcome to that particular side quest/conversation. Honestly it's one of those situations that somewhat demonstrates how technology around the SWTOR era is comparable to the technology of the Prequel/OT era

Realistically speaking destroying the bridge wouldn't disable an entire ship. The engines, the guns, the crew quarters, and most of the rest of the ship would still be kicking. Unless of course the bridge was directly over the power core with nothing in between. EXPOSED BRIDGES AREN'T THAT MUCH OF A PROBLEM. Now not having rear weapons is another conversation all together

Alexane Rose Well, destroying the bridge normally wouldn’t be a problem... except all navigational equipment is housed there, along with the command crew... so destroying it usually ensures that the ship is rendered inoperable from that point on.

I’d argue BBY ABY is one of the dumbest options anyway. Why not something along the lines of AE (After Empire’s Formation) or AR (After Republic) Or, as pointed out, surely the destruction of an entire star system is worth mentioning? Empire and Return of the Jedi proved the Battle of Yavin to be pretty insignificant.

My fave is the Secutor-class. Plot devices mean that the Empire never made many sensible decisions with its fleets, but the Secutor, at least to me, is a far better route. Imagine being the one who designed it and then Tarkin says "Nah, needs to be covered in pointless guns"

The SSD, While impractical, was incredibly successful in its purpose. It was designed to instill fear, and in that respect, its ability was only matched by that of the Death Star (and the Death Star didnt get a real chance to be a psychological weapon)

Not true. Look at what the Alliance threw at the Second Death Star. Absolutely everything they had. Literally if not for Vader's yeet of Palpatine and the Ewoks, the Alliance would have been done for. But they had to risk a full in, otherwise they knew the Empire had them in the long game.

@@seajaye9540 actually, according the the novelization, that wasn't the full rebel fleet at the second death star. It was around 1/3 as the rest of the fleet was performing distractionary measures to try to give the fleet at Endor breathing room. Also, the SSD didn't accomplish all that much outside of dying to a single A wing. Lol. That isn't to say I don't love the SSD platform. It's just, too big, takes too long to build, and takes to much manpower to effectively run to be anything more than a psychological weapon

I really wanna see New Republic Star Destroyers in live action, I thought for sure that one was going to show up in Mando episode 6. Gimme that modified ISD II in Republic colors, season 2.

@@holywater8132 The Eclipse would tear the Supremacy. Though the Supremacy's fighters could win chances are the First Order. Officers would think they wouldn't need to use fighters given how large the Supremacy is

The Resurgent class destroyers were a smart design, fixing an error in the ISD. But we rarely saw them in action. If anything I would keep the design as Canon, while having the Legends Sequel trilogy as canon as well.

Reván Legends diehards like me and other fans are just in absolutely tearing apart this terrible NuCanon timeline but we'd be fools (and dicks) to not admit that they've designed some pretty cool shit. A quick list of examples would be: - Resurgent Class SD (O.G. Imperial I&II Class flaws are gone) - FO AT-ST (its superior in every way) - The Supremacy (that thing is virtually unstoppable) - FO TIE Fighters (Grand Admiral Thrawn's wet dreams) - Lord Mommin (dude woulda made a fine New Sith Wars Era Sith Lord) - Phantom Energy (is basically the new Isotope-5) - and a few more things I can't recall...

@@blackshogun272 As cool as it would've been to reintroduce legends as canon, it would be even cooler for the writers (Obviously not the ones who made the ST) to merge the better parts of new canon and the best parts of legends into a new continuity. My wet dream is seeing a first order fleet join forces with a legends new republic fleet in order to defeat a yuzhang Vong fleet.

For what it's worth the functionality of the Executor was its ability to dock up to 3 ISD recessed into the underside for battle damage repairs, which would otherwise require a deep dock support fleet as part of the technical services formations at regional bases, meaning several weeks away and these were extremely vulnerable venturing out of their bases anyway, generally not ideal in contested space such as just after a major battle with capital warships. The Executor class was the only other craft large enough to dock ISD in deep space for major repairs outside of a full scale shipyard like Kuat, with the added bonuses of always being active within the same sector as ISD so much closer than deep dock fleets, with much faster hyperdrives and is also an extremely powerful warship in its own right so hardly vulnerable to attack in a support role, despite its primary function being a fleet command role. This also follows with the philosophy of ISD which transformed both naval tactics and the order of battle, so was a little more revolutionary that you're giving it credit for. They're designed to function without support fleets, that is to say they are the support fleet. Other naval units like the technical services fleet, the transport fleet , the escort fleet, the space superiority fleet, these were all effectively replaced by the star destroyer and thus placed in reserve or scavenged for materials to build star destroyers with. In the space superiority role for example, one ISD replaces more than 20 older capital ships required to perform the same function at similar capability, including line of battle formations, starfighter screens and the necessity of having other support units attached for extended operations. They're also designed to remain on station for many years, 5 actually where most capital ships must dock for complete refit every 1-2 years or perform at greatly reduced capability. Contrary to popular assumption they cut military spending not increased it, instead of operating a more classical Imperial navy with large fleets of traditional warships in line of battle formations, with dozens of combat support ships and other fleets for troop transport and technical support, which would've cost many times more at the scale of operations the Empire intended. They're also not as ineffective within their various roles as you might think, the full crew listing is deceptive and only relates to a full battle stations alert or general quarters and includes all three shifts plus all support personnel, bridge crew and other superfluous contingent, only the troop complement is listed separately as passengers and it doesn't include naval security forces for the ship, just the troops used for ground operations or boarding other starships and space stations. It requires a fraction of the total crew compliment for all normal operations, hence only a handful of turbolasers would be readily available to shoot some pesky pirates that suddenly flew by for example, unless attacked by an entire fleet of capital warships there is simply no reason to work up the reactors on a star destroyer and call to action thousands of crewmen to bring hundreds of heavy energy weapons on line. On a vessel like a star destroyer sounding general quarters is the same thing as bringing a full size military base or a traditional battle fleet to combat readiness, which takes time and costs a lot of credits in reactor work up, energy consumption and many other considerations. A Captain might get court martialled doing such a thing frivolously, hence when you see a star destroyer Captain mention there is no need to bother sounding a full general alert for a handful of Rebel starfighters it's not because he's an idiot, it's because there really isn't if you're thinking about how much it's going to cost in credits, which Captains must do if they like their job. It is true if you dumb it down then Imperials are fools and Rebels are fun and adventurous, but if you adult it up things kind of get flipped on their head and the Rebel victory, any Rebel victory really was all about the Force. But it also has to be said that Palpatine's superweapons kink, yeah that was plain stupid. The ISD though, with their SSD in battle formation, that was naval brilliance and I'd like to think didn't really come from Palpatine at all.

First of all, the Empire did up military spending in fact, Palpatine made it one of his goals to increase military spending by in order of magnitude for “safety and security“ so you saying that The ISD is equal to 20 venators is idiotic you need to adult up. The ISD was not the Lord Jesus Christ OK. The rebel victory was not up to the force. If you’re going to build 25,000 battleships with no point defense cannons and wonder why the resistance against you is only using fighters and winning you need help you need to wake up and as you put it adult it up. The rebels won because the Empire was too busy oppressing people to really think about what makes a proper fighting force in practice and on paper. I won’t lie the Empire on paper should’ve won the war easily, but they didn’t because they were counting on winning so they didn’t expect to lose hubris is a weapon of itself too much of it and you guarantee, complacency and complacency, guarantees, incompetence.

And incompetence at the right levels guarantees complacency, so that when you do come up against the threat, you have no idea how to fight, you have no idea how to develop your tactics because you’re so focused on the fact that you’re sure you’re gonna win in the end the Empire failed because it was built to fail You don’t build 25,000 imperial to an imperial one class star destroyers with no point defense cannons and a lackluster fighter complement if you want them to succeed at actually fighting you do that if you want them to succeed at oppressing people.

It wasn’t naval brilliance to put 19 km of pure unobstructed hubris on the front lines because it makes that ship and presumably valuable commander a big fat target. It was naval brilliance really then how come one 32,000 credit A wing was able to destroy a 19 km star dreadnought by itself? You’re saying that Eck is making the Empire look stupid. The Empire is making itself look stupid. You’re taking the statistics and acting as if they are truly what makes or breaks a fighting force. if that was true, then yes, the rebels would’ve failed miraculously but that’s not it. The empire failed because it wasn’t ready

On average imperials, probably weren’t fools. Maybe they needed a little better training, but I’m not gonna say they were all idiots, but I can tell you that good percentage of them only made it to their high positions in the The Empire, because of who they were how rich they were who their parents were, and how rich they were. We’re gonna try to tell me that the rebels won because the Empire was portrayed as a bunch of idiots who flew around in giant star destroyers with no point defense cannons, trying to fight a bunch of starfighters with paper weights with engines strapped on. Not saying they were all idiots but all good portion of them flew around the giant star destroyers with no point defense cannons and very terrible starfighters trying to fight very powerful starfighters with hyper drives and shields and advanced tactical computers. No but the Empire isn’t stupid. They decided to get rid of some of the best soldiers, the galaxy has ever seen some of the most proficient human beings to grace the living force, and replace them with guys who can’t see straight, and who’s career is gonna be made up of move along and where is your ID? 😂😂

The victory is my favorite, the design is just really cool, more the victory 1 just because of concussion missile launchers, love the antenna on top and it just looks cool.

Hey Eck and sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve commented on a video or hopped onto a stream I’ve been super busy lately. I hope you’ve been having a great couple of days and that your family is doing great too! I really enjoyed finally getting to watch this video too I love Star Destroyers, and every time I see the scene of the Star Destroyer moving by in a new hope I get goose bumps lol. Such a memorable first scene.

The Venator would be my ideal ship, personally. A versatile warship with the capacity for a fighter wing, or large amounts of troops/material, but also with the firepower and armor to survive a slugging match with capital ships.

I'm glad you've divided things into canon and legends (is that the right term?). It makes things so much easier to keep track of. Frankly, i've been having trouble keeping track of what's canon these days, especially with characters like Thrawn who have crossed from the old EU to new canon.

There's really only Star Wars and Disney's terrible fan fiction. Disney calling their garbage "canon" is absurdly gross. I guess I can be grateful they largely left Marvel alone and didn't subject it to the same mutilation they inflicted on Star Wars.

I'm surprised we don't see more cigar-shaped ships in SW, similar-ish to the home one - the 3D nature of space makes those designs very effective.

Or, indeed, spherical ships. *Spaceballs* actually legitimately had something with that ship design, and didn’t even know it.

Nice to see my favourite Star Destroyer classes - Nebula, Pellaeon and Imperious classes.

Interesting to note that in Legends Star Destroyers became smaller and more efficient. But in Canon, their ships just kept getting bigger.

While the main warship has gotten bigger, with basically every power using nearly 3km long battlecruisers, there is a noticeable lack of dreadnoughts and other SSD sized ships, apart from specialized platforms like the Supremacy (a unique mobile shipyard) and the Mandator IV (specialized on planetary bombardment). On top of this while the Starhawk, MC85 and Resurgent are all bigger than Imperial Star Destroyers, they are also much rarer. This could be seen as similar to the post-WW1 era, in which battleships designs became bigger and more advanced but also drastically reduced the amount of battleships each power could field.

@@thefirstprimariscatosicari6870 Interesting observation, though I won't be able to excuse it considering how cost heavy this approach seems to be for the First Order who holds only a fragment of the Empire's resources and manpower. I still find the Legends approach to this with the Imperial Remnant more believable as they started losing out on resource and must field cost efficient ships that did not take ludicrous amount of manpower or resource to field but can complete their tasks just as efficiently.

one thing i loved about legends, when a group of Star Destroyers came up against a single squadron of X-Wings, they knew to immediately throw out every Tie Fighter they had, turn and flee. They knew it was certain death to one or more ships before they got the last X-Wing and wouldnt risk it. Especially if it turned out to be either Rogue or Wrath Squadron.

Who else is just vibing with the intro/outro music?

I personally like the Xyston-Class. Although not much is known, and a lot of it is Disney BS, it’s a cool and possibly practical idea to give Star Destroyers planetary-bombardment capability while still remaining average-ish sized. Other Star Destroyers had such abilities, but they were usually SSDs, much larger and probably slower. The Xyston-Class seems unique altogether.

ScarProductionz - Stop Motion and More You’re not an idiot probably 75% or more of his content is Star Wars with maybe 1520% being Halo. He is obviously doing a lot of Star Wars content right now which makes sense with Mandalorian and episode nine people are thinking about Star Wars and that’s what they want to watch. It’s also probably what he wants to talk about. Similarly towards the end of this year when Halo Infinite is scheduled to come out he will probably do a lot of Halo videos Assuming the game comes out as planned

Honestly the Venator class is always my favorite Star Destroyer out of them all. The way it looks, the way it moves and fights, it’s just a gem.

This is my first time seeing an eckhartsLadder video so close to upload/processing. Acclamator is one of my the most favorite cruisers in Star Wars, - i Just love it, all its triangle fishy form and its bridge and engines it has every weapons you need and somehow it reminds me of the ocean, and if i am not mistaken it could land and take off from water...

I've never gotten into the Star Wars universe much but your presentation makes for really engaging videos that I'm always happy to watch! how about a look at non-force weapon history within the universe? dare I dream of a proto-bowcaster?

I know this sounds depressing , but humans in star wars sound like the most aggressive violent destructive species. I even read a novel where a anti human league started up. That was a very scary but thought provoking legends novel.

Eh, I'd say humans are pretty average overall. Not as peace loving as species like the Ithorians, but not as bad as the hutts, who are pretty much all evil. Humans are just very numerous and powerful, and thus tend to be the drivers behind most of the galaxies major conflicts. That, and palpatine's humanocentric empire spawned a whole generation of human bad guys.

Sayer Glasgow Actually i view the Hutts as Benevolent in an alien perspective they just have a very different law. If the Hutts legitamitly are the law . More aliens see a deal with Hutts better then a deal with humans. A aliens view humans as prejudiced and straight out murderous.

@@antwan1357 Uhhh... Unless disney drastically changed like... everything, hutts are known for being exceptionally and wantonly cruel at every opportunity, and keeping deals only so long as it's convenient for them. Jabba's behavior seems to strongly support this.

@@antwan1357 In terms of overall harm they cause? Palpatine is obviously worse, he controls most of the galaxy, Jabba is just a gangster. In terms of how bad it is to be in their immediate vicinity? Definitely Jabba, as he's highly likely to invent an elaborate and incredibly agonizing way to kill you for no other reason than because he's bored. Plus, palpatine was so far into the dark side he was barely human anyway.

What is absolutely fascinating is the sheer econimical power the Empire had. To build ISD's how they did, and two Death Stars. Have to hand it to them.

I really miss the ship matchups and factions compared personally.

All of that water has been absorbed by the several hundreds of miles thick city scapes built on top of them. Let's just say if it were the earth the city would extend out well beyond the ISS in orbit. The only thing left of the planet it was is a mars sized chunk in the center. They have mined out most of its crust and it's mantle to make the city above so there is nothing left of its oceans.

Keep in mind it was already covered completely by city by 30,000 years bby and they have kept building it both down and up since then. Think of it like a planet sized onion, with hundreds of layers each with a planet sized city for each one. There are several videos on this and I think this channel has done a few as well.

@@chevy5755 Both ships are a "what if the good guys built Star Destroyers?" Both are highly optimised designs that go for operational ability, but with differences as the Nebula is brand new and the Starhawk is made from pieces of unbuilt ISDs

The amount of Star Destroyers in Legends truly showed the pure might and power of the Galactic Empire. The Star Destroyer is the heart of the Imperial Navy, and with it came the pure fanatic race in the making of new Varieties that could filled any role of combat. While true that the Empire weren’t able to put more star fighters and pin points defenses, but you know what the Empire did put on, more Turbo Lasers that could take on larger ships. They were so good that both the Imperial Warlords and New Republic’s leadership want to get as many they could possibly get. While canon introduces the Resurgent class Star Destroyers is awesome, but it really doesn’t get show us what it can do with intended purpose.

All of this is more or less unprecedented and does bring up an interesting debate of what "canon" actually is and who decides what it is. Also people like Ysane Isard and a couple others became very crafty and went full R&D and made superior weaponry and shields to defend against even their level of weaponry, but used the same old design ISD's. They were wolves in sheeps clothing and her small tiny fleets would devastated all enemy large ship fleets they encountered. They even gave X-Wings an extremely hard time. I rememeber one of her weapons seemed harmless and passed straight through enemy ships shields only for seconds later the ships would just break apart. The weapon was designed to weaken all metal and it would simply implode and fall apart from the inside under the natural stresses around it.

I think I’d like to see you do one of these multi-era comparisons for corvettes and/or frigates.

Eckstoo is an awesome channel, if you enjoy Star Wars Empire at War and all its various mods then definitely subscribe!!!

My two favorite Star destroyer designs are the Victory and Gladiator classes. The Gladiator-class had its origins in the animated series, Star Wars Droids...one of that class was owned (IIRC) by the space pirate Kybo Ren-Cha. However, the Gladiator-class got a very nice, more realistic look with the creation of the 3D miniature created for the strategy board game, Star Wars Armada. My impression is that the Gladiator-class served in the transitional period between the Republic and the Galactic Empire.

I'd really like to see a video about all the small arms used by the different factions throughout all eras.
