Wizard just put new studs in the Northstar, just to further bulletproof the power train. He also bought the kit just for the Northstar

Great video! Very informative. I’m considering buying an 06 XLR with 40k miles. I’ve got a great mechanic but am very nervous about parts being hard to find and really expensive when maintenance is needed due to limited vehicle production run. What are your thoughts? Is this a dealbreaker?

Sorry for the late reply. Having a good mechanic who is willing to work on anything you have is a huge head start on any automotive purchase. I'd suggest watching anything the Car Wizard has done on his XLR, to get a sense of what you could be in for if the head bolt issue arises. I have actually seen quite a few super cheap XLR's for sale recently, I think there are more out there then it seems like. Wouldn't hurt to have a parts car if you could find one for a few thousand, because the head and tail light assemblies alone can go for thousands. Buying one does seem like a bit of a gamble, but if you are ok with potential high maintenence, and or living with a power roof that doesnt work, its such a special car and the looks never get old, and I was quite impressed with the driving experience. That said, a c5 or c6 corvette will be so much less of a headache, and offers a manual transmission, if thats appealing to you. Might not be. Let me know how it works out for you. Even though I had heard and knew how much they cost it still boggled my mind seeing the actual prices on ebay with my own eyes. I guess they are the perfect amount of rare to be not worth the development of an acceptable aftermarket solution yet in demand enough to command those second hand prices. Almost wants you want to put some metal wire gaurds around them. Tho that would slightly alter the clean lines styling...
