My grandfather grabbed the rod while I reeled my line in. He held it for 30 seconds before handing it to me where I fought the fish for the next 40 minutes. Does that still count as my fish?

Dude, I love your videos and am a subscriber so please don't think I'm a Karen getting up in your grill, but you've got to get these fish back into the water sooner. Warm water lakes where you fish hold less oxygen, and the fish is exhausted when you land it, so it is already significantly depleted of blood oxygen when you are admiring it for the camera. Studies of tagged bass from tournament releases have shown an average mortality rate of 30% or higher, even though those fish were horsed into the boat with the minimum fight and kept in an aerated live well. Brain damage occurs when oxygen runs low in the blood stream, so every second an exhausted fish is handled out of the water does damage. Just because they swim off of their own accord doesn't mean they are okay and going to survive, as the tournament studies prove. That you love these fish is not in question, and we all love sharing your adventures. I hope my comments are received in the spirit they are offered. All the best!

Yeah, giving them as much time in the water between pics will help, as they get some oxygen back into their systems. Hi guys. Helpful tip needed. How the heck do you always get the hooks out with your bare hand without getting impaled. I have been fishing for years and would never ever put my fingers in the mouth of a flailing fish with a barbed razor sharp hook in its mouth. I am a piano player , so maybe I have good reason not to do that or I'm just a wimp. 😊

Thanks for the info. just wondering if there was a trick to it. I don't think I'm that good with fish body language so I will save my piano fingers and stick to the pliers. Nice video. btw I would take credit for that catch. The fish went after your lure, missed his mouth and caught him by the tail. At least take 3/4 credit 😀 Just sayin' @@TyPigPatrol

Couple years ago I snagged a state record smallmouth probably close to 8 lbs. In the back with my little crankbait, by myself so I missed grabbing her on the 1st chance, then she dove and pulled off, woulda been a good picture...I wouldn't have claimed it if I landed it legally cause the lake would get pounded relentlessly if I did

Beautiful fish! 👍🏽 Sucks that it was a snag. She probably swiped it and got hooked.

30 years ago someone would have mounted that fish with the bait still hanging from the tail. 😂

I come from a time long before you could take video of every catch. So, it would come down to honesty. All people had was a photo. I don’t really care if it counts as a catch or not. It’s awesome just to see a fish that size.

Fish in hand counts regardless how it’s hooked unless your intent was to snag it.
