Every Badge Out There
I’ve been to several Police Memorials during my years with the Columbia Police Department, but none stands out like the one in 2006. It was the first time I ever heard “Every Badge Out There”. I know when writing the song, Patrolman Jeremy Alsup, wasn’t writing it based on my family, but he might as well been.
While listening to him play the song live, I remember looking across the auditorium and making eye contact with my father and both us being teary eyed.
Each time I’ve listened to it since, thousands of lifelong memories flow through my head: Most are memories that only a child of a law enforcement officer would cherish.
My dad was “Shop with a COP” before there was a “Shop with a COP”. While growing up, dad would get donated toys that needed parts replaced or fixed. After countless hours of working on them, he would load up the old truck and we would drive all over Columbia giving them to underprivileged children at Christmas.
As an elementary aged child, I watched a domestic violence situation take place down the road from where I grew up. I remember seeing patrol officers surrounding the house. I saw my father rush into the back door of the house where the armed person was barricaded inside with a family member. Shortly thereafter, my dad exited the house with the individual under arrest.
I remember having to take vacations out of state so situations could die down at home because someone had allegedly put death threats out on my dad for busting certain people or knowing too much about certain people’s illegal activities.
My father worked 40 to 80 hours a week while I attended Jr. High & high school, but from what I remember he was never too busy or too tired to ever missed one single sport or school activity of mine.
Those are just a few of the childhood memories that come back every time I listen to “Every Badge Out There”
There isn’t a day that goes by that someone at work is not asking me about Frank Duncan or providing a story of him. Some don’t even realize they’re telling these stories to his son.
Thanks for allowing me to share a few cherished memories that this song brings to me.

My dad was killed in the line of duty 2/17/1986 First Chief of Narcotics PPSO I have been a LEO myself for 37 years this song really hits home.
This hit hard on me. I work in Law Enforcement as an armed Security Officer. I wake up every morning and make my kids breakfast. I get ready for work and I kiss them all before I leave. I am proud of what I do
My dad isnt a cop but is apart of law enforcement, I worry about him all the time. Especially when we go so long without talking

I don't know you or your father, but from one brother to another... Trust him. I love you both
As a cop that just had a son, I love and hate the fact that my son loves my uniform. He is drawn to play with the police cars. I know one day he will probably put on the same uniform and i will never be more proud and scared at the same time.

I know the feeling. My fiancé is a highway patrolman and his son just entered highway patrol school. I worry after every shift until he comes home safe. Now I will soon have a step son following in his daddy and his grandfathers shoes wearing the badge. But I'm so proud of all three of them.

This hits home. I worry everyday about my little ones suffering because of my choice of profession. It is a calling, but it is a dangerous one at times. It is also tough on the kids of cops since they have to deal with the ridicule of todays anti-police world
GOD Bless Law Enforcement Officers Thank them for there service
best song ever wrote ,to the thin blue line family
Praying to all cops out there. Thank you all.

I remember hearing this on myspace. best police dedication song.
I grew up with a chief for a father. I still remember the insults for being proud of him. But I'm proud, and I pray one day I can become an officer to make him and myself proud
Beautiful Song.
So true and beautiful. My Brother.

Wow. Fabulous song. Been doing this job a long time. I get discouraged sometimes, it's things like this song that make me reflect and help keep me doing what I do.

I tried writing back, but kept deleting it because I don't know how to put it into words correctly. So I am just going to say, that there are people who support you- they may not come up to you in public and say it but trust me there are more people who support you than the haters, always remember that.

This song brought me to tears your father sounds like he was one hell of an officer an officer who I would proudly serve beside the song itself reminds me of my uncle bill he was a Vietnam POW then he came home and became an officer with the St Matthews police dept in Kentucky he's one of a few inspirations for me to join the force in a few months when i turn 21 I've been practicing to go into the police force my uncle served 25 years in the dept made his way to hostage negotiator until one day he was called to a barricaded suspect turned out the suspect went nuts raped his wife and kids when my uncle found that out he jumped across the table and beat the guy up pretty bad ended up going into a coma and dying he was reassigned to the narcotics unit he was one hell of a man like your father may god bless them and watch over them until we meet again

You could also a double male 3.5mm cable (headphone jack size) to hook deviced together and play the song on one device and use something like garage band to record it on the other device (ipad, macbook..)
