Every Abanico Striking Technique - Kali Stick Fighting (Filipino Martial Arts)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Abanico or Witiks are the fan or flick strikes with sticks and bolos. These strikes are delivered rapidly and can cause an underestimated amount of damage to the opponent. In this video, I share all 12 of the Abanico or Witik striking angles and techniques in one easy-to-learn short form. Join my online school to further these strikes and learn the rest of Kali.

Hey Paul, long time viewer, I hope all is well with you and yours. I rarely comment on your forum, most techniques are very easy to follow, such is your teaching style. I am having trouble following all of the striking angles of the Abanicos. Could you perhaps clarify the them somehow? Thank you for all of the knowledge you’ve shared with us over the years. Peace John.

I'm no expert whatsoever but from what I see, the tip of the stick hits the following: 1,2: head, just the corner of the eye 3-8: leg, fist, weapon itself, depends on the situation. 9: fist, weapon itself 10: rib cage, upper arm, fist 11: groin to chin 12: top of head Fist: usually holds a weapon, but it is further from the body. If the stick hit the fingers or nuckles, can result in disarm. Leg: usually knees, or if there is a kick coming, aimed on the foot ot knees. Abanicos are awesome tools as the body rarerly signals them so they are unpredictable. Hope this helps. If not, please go easy on me ;)

Looking forward to trying these out on my tire tomorrow! Your garden is looking a bit like mine lately. I had to dig out my training area from under wild carrot seed stalks. Still pulling those seeds off of my jacket hours later!

Cheers! for your sharing skill. what would I do if for defence with the stick if someone is damaging my property, trespassing or home invading. We're not allowed guns in Australia. Every one presents a full curriculum complex syllabus of Martial skill. How and where do I just hit a nasty guy without knifing them or shooting them. Just stop them and scare them off. Way too much info, unless I was going to fight another stick fighter. Best of luck, still enjoy looking at your stuff.

That's an awesome question and another reason for practicing different striking applications with the impact weapon, not just lethal "skull crushing" techniques. Sometimes you just want to deter someone, not hospitalize, maim or kill them. Kali teaches us to defang the snake which can be translated to a quick shot to the wrist, elbow, shin, etc. Just enough to "scare them off".

If you click on the settings gear wheel top right on any KZread vid, you can select the playback speed. They go all the way down to quarter speed. I use this all the time.😊
