EVERTON AWAY REVIEW: Was Goodison Park The LOUDEST Stadium In The Premier League This Season? 🔊

Спорт

Everton needed three points to secure Premier League survival on Sunday, and Bournemouth aimed to spoil the party. The more Bournemouth frustrated the Toffees, the more the home crowd rallied - so once Abdoulaye Doucouré stepped up to rifle home a screamer from the edge of the area, the decibel level at Goodison Park went OFF THE SCALE!
Sam and Tigz are back to provide an honest & candid review of the fan-going experience at Goodison, and place it on the tier-list accordingly.
This video rates everything OTHER than what happened on the pitch, including:

Went to GP in 1985 with Luton and saw Everton awarded the league title in front of 44,000. I’ve been to 70+ grounds including seeing the mighty Luton Town beat Arsenil in the League Cup Final in 1988 at the old Wembley with 100,000 people. The old and new Wembley are shit atmospheres but the old was better than the new. But the atmosphere at Goodison that day in ‘85 was the loudest I’ve ever heard. By quite some distance. It was incredible. Above us, both sides and the Gladys Road end opposite made for a special noise. Moving to Bramley Moore is so sad. It’s a copy of Espanyol’s stadium including the colour. It’s nothing unique. It’s just another soulless bowl. Why are us fans so desperate to move from our traditional homes to a modern pile of disappointment?

@@jamisbillson4872 I'm not desperate to leave personally, I adore Goodison. It isn't fit for purpose much anymore though, it gives the club a chance to increase the capacity, and host events like concerts etc, it's the only way to move forward and hopefully get better. I live close to Bramley Moore too, it does look phenomenal, if you've not been down, definitely go and visit.

Goodison Park was the first purpose built football stadium in the world and opened in 1892. The Bullens Road stand which you were in dates from 1926 and is probably the oldest stand in the PL. Everton had built up Anfield from a field and were attracting 5 figure attendances . They won the Football League Championship in 1891-2 and the landlord, John Houlding, saw an opportunity to hike the rent but Everton basically told him to do one!

Yes, the Hadjuk Split crowd (and they brought a lot with them), were just downright nasty! As to history, the split where we told him to stuff it and left Anfield….before that, we were originally called St Domingos United, which is an area of Everton including the road ‘St Domingo’s Vale’ and of course the ‘St Domingo’s’ pub and I’m pretty sure it’s a parish….man, I should know all this.. but my brain just isn’t working properly (a consequence of being an Evertonian, no doubt!) We are a staunchly loyal community and although we really do need a new modern stadium, especially in it’s prime UNESCO World Heritage Site on our famous Mersey riverfront…however, I know that we’ll still be so sorry to leave the old Lady behind 🥹 Nice to hear nice things being said about neutral visitors to Goodison (for a change! …come on now, we all know that Everton bashing is a popular pastime). You are most welcome at our proud club gentlemen. Viva the blues

Goodison was the first 4 sided football stadium. It was also the first football stadium to have a two tier stand and the first stadium to have a 3 tier stand. Also the first stadium to have under soil heating. Also the first stadium to have a world cup semi-final played there.

Nice series! I enjoyed the video 👍 I'm an Evertonian, and I'm disgusted to hear people were spitting at the away fans. There is a minority of our fanbase that really lets us down. As for the negative comments online, most of them probably don't even go to the game, that's what I've learned on from my experience on social media anyway. Most of the people I speak to at Goodison are genuinely friendly people, but I suppose you get good and bad everywhere. I'm glad you enjoyed the day.

Everton fan here lads & 1st of all if any spitting went on I can only apologies as that's not the Everton way but we all get the odd idiot's who spoil thing's for everyone, glad on the whole you enjoyed your day & I like most Everton fans am just relieved more than anything else that we stayed up, we as fans know there is a lot of work to be done to get us back on track & get us up where most fans think we should be. We as fans alway's sing about if you know your history & while our stadium is not really fit for purpose these day & (does not let us generate the money we could on a match day) That will all change once the new stadium is open & I'm sure you lads will really enjoy your visit there as it will be one of if not the best stadiums in the UK (By The Banks Of the ROYAL BLUE MERSEY). As I mentioned about history I'll educate you guy's a little, Goodison Park the Grand Old Lady was in fact the 1st purpose built football stadium in the World, it was also the 1st stadium in the country to install undersoil heating. Also the Archibald Leitch stand was the 1st large stand to have a terrace directly underneath the seating balcony, so while very old & past her best this great stadium set many records throughout her life time, I will be very sad to leave this place but that is progress for you & I'm sure she will stay in the hearts of every Everton fan & I dare say many neutrals will miss the experience of visiting a proper old school ground, & you're right lad Everton fans are the proper scousers. Also your old manager Eddie Howe grow up an Evertonian so he's got his head screwed on right, all the best for next season apart from when we meet of course. 😀👍

Good honest review. Me and the family parked next to the ground. £15 was a tad bit pricey but given the location deemed a fair price. We met a lot of Everton supporters as we got out the car and I found them absolutely brilliant. Very polite, humble and appreciated our long drive up. We actually got invited into their fan zone area. Initially we thought we would be mobbed. But in all honesty, it was a great atmosphere with no hostility whatsoever. Had a few beers chatting to them and genuinely thought they were a great bunch. The atmosphere in the ground. I echo the comments. Good old school ground. At times a little quiet but boy when it got going. Wow , was it loud. A very proud club . Leaving the game was no bother at all. Had it been different if the result had been the other way round. Yes, I think so. But personally. Was one of our best away trips. Well done Sam, Tom, Tiggs, Steve and co for the content this season. See you again next season. UTC 🍒🍒🍒

As an EFC supporter (of over 60 years) it was interesting to hear your thoughts. Everton need to move and have done for several years yet I'm sad (like Highbury, Roker and others)that no aspect of the ground is being preserved. This was the first purpose built football ground in England, the first with double decker covered stands, dugouts and undersoil heating. More importantly it still has two Archibald Leach stands at Bullens Rd and Gladwys St with the criss-cross metal work. Leach's Fulham main stand is listed but not those at Goodison. Pity they are not being preserved in some form. I am afraid we are burying out football and social heritage in this country in the name of 'progress' Just a thought.

First time I've seen your videos and a very refreshing piece it is. You two are very nice chaps and probably get a good response from most places that you visit. The spitting is disgusting -totally loathsome. Other high emotions are understandable under the circumstances. As a long-standing fan who has seen the "good times" of the eighties I admit that we have an annoying(to others) sense of entitlement. Goodison was a fantastic stadium and even despite it's resticted views and horrid bogs, to be made of wood , is not only sustainable(plastic and tin won't be around for a hundred years!) but also it's nice. A natural material. I love Goodison, and it was the first to have undersoil heating. It was the first in England to have dug-outs (copied from Aberdean). With the construction of the Gwladys st stand it became the first English ground to have double decker stands on all sides.....in 1938. Everton were also Champions at the start of WW1 and the start of WW2.

I will miss Goodison Park when Everton move. So many good memories and plenty of bad one as well. But as stated in previous comments, the first stadium to supply so many things that are common place in football stadia all over the country. Still the only club ground in Gt Britain to hold a World Cup Semi Final 💙💙

And always will be. If a world cup is held in England the semis will no doubt both be at Wembley.

@Gary It was Portugals base for the 1966 World Cup games. The great Eusebio absolutely loved it. Here's a football fact for you to think about. The original semi final that was to take place at Goodison was Portugal v England, then 3 days before kick off it got moved to Wembley. Now, imagine the upheaval Portugal faced in getting everything down to London from Liverpool back then. Eusebio always believed that if Portugal had played England at Goodison Park, they would have been in the final. Makes you wonder.

Great vid gentlmen. I watched the vlog from the game and very nearly subbed. I have yet to sub to a rival's channel because I'm not sure I would watch the 'ramblings' of opposing fans about their team. This video here has changed that. I like the balanced nature of your vids, what I've seen so far, you're clearly just two footy fans who can knock together superbly produced content. Keep up the good work and I look forward to seeing your Bramley Moore review in due coarse, footy gods willing! I also echo the cooments here about the idiots lettting everyone down, absolutely moronic.

Also, I didn't notice it go quiet, although Gary Neville said the same. I think it went quiet without us noticing because we were utterly absorbed, in a trance-like state, watching what was happening in front of us. Anyway, that's my two penneth worth

I have just listened to your pod and it was interesting and enjoyable. Keep it going! I just want to apologise to all Bournemouth fans who were at the game and were affected by the spitting from the upper tier of the Bullens Rd stand. The behaviour of a minority was reprehensible and brings shame on Everton’s fan base.I hope this explanation goes some way to giving context, however, without in any way trying to make excuses. Everton has over 30,000 season ticket holders , with more than 20,000 on the waiting list. It is therefore a very stable group. Even after such a dreadful season, over 95% of those season tickets have been renewed. Consequently, large groups around the stadium have sat together for years and years. They don’t ‘know’ each other particularly, in many instances, and only meet at the games, but this factor leads to them being largely a self-policing group. Anyone ‘kicking off’ usually gets shot down pretty quickly. The difference is the Upper Tier in the Bullens. This section is reserved for away fans, and on the occasion when those tickets aren’t taken up, they go on sale to Everton supporters. This is what happened at this game. Consequently, there isn’t the same association between those people who get into occasional games through this route, in that part of Goodison Park, and the risk of knobheads getting in is greater.Nor is there the ‘self-policing’ element. I’m sure that the club will do everything it can to track down those morons, and those caught will be banned for life believe me. Good luck for next season.

Newcastle was always going to be the best awayday because you made a weekend of it. Looking forward to next season's reviews, especially when you lads go to Luton. It was interesting when you were both discussing how many boards have been in charge without developing the ground. In the late 60s the main stand was rebuilt then shortly afterwards time stood stood still for the rest of the stadium. I still hold the view I never wanted to leave Goodison. Great video fellers. Up the toffees.

Very fair summation lads. Sorry about the spitters, but I’ve been spat on from above in most grounds where the rivals are sitting above! It’s just knobheads. The thing with Everton is, the only thing unfortunately at present, is our long proud history. So it’s massive highs & nail biting lows. Akin to your child on life support, finally making it through (metaphorically 😉) Good luck to you both & I’ll buy you a pint next season..
