Everest has become a tourist attraction, not a serious endeavour. Such a shame. The queues are obscene.

Of all these people climbing the Everest, there is not one that fits the definition of a mountainer/climber. The myth is gone, replaced by the time of tourists hoarding this summit like a gang of sheeps. I remember reading articles about the mess and pollution at the various bases camps like 30 years ago. It only got worse since then, way way more worse. On top of a pile of crap left by these so called moutainers, you have now soon a pile of dead bodies polluting the site, never recovered.

@AnthonyWilliams-ew3wp It always was a tourist attraction. At least these people are paying themselves. Edmund Hillary got a free holiday paid by sponsors and tax payers. The tourists need to clean up after themselves or pay more if they don't.

Let me solve this. Everest health certificate. Each person before heading to Basecamp must complete an 8-hour stair master in an oxygen tent set to 6,000 meters carrying 20 KGs bag, blood work and an EKG. This tests should cost around $2,500 that goes to Nepal, if you failed the test, you lose your permit and cannot go to the mountain.... There, I fix it.

Sherpas should not have to risk their lives guiding so much inexperienced and low paying customers. I saw a documentary on Everest Sherpas and it is shameful. They also have to go back and forth trying to clean up the waste left behind which is extremely risky. That bottlenecking is disturbing.

Alison, actually most of the current companies that are guiding up Everest are owned by companies based locally and generally owned by locals and sherpas. So it is basically sherpas finally getting their due.

Most sherpas on everest are making over 10 times in a couple months that the average person makes in nepal in a year. They are doing just fine

@@junioradult6219 That may seem okay in your mind, but when someone pays you 40k to go to the top and you pay your Sherpa less than 1k sometimes far less …. It is not about comparing their wage to Nepal, it is about comparing it to your profit margin. The guy makes 10 times what an average person makes is a way to justify unfair labor practices.

The photo at :33 of the traffic jam at the step was astounding. The mess they are making of the mountain is disgusting and the penalties need to be more severe, and actually enforced.

It has long been explained that global warming is disrupting regular weather patterns and creating more extreme events. Those extreme events include extended extreme cold in areas that don’t usually get as cold. Google “polar vortex”…

People forget there is more then 1 route on everest. All these lines are just on the main easiest route

They could still make all their money while still being selective with the climbers. One should most definitely have the PROPER climbing experience before being allowed to climb Everest! And any “guide” who takes just anyone up is careless & money hungry

I remember well when I was a small boy, Hannelore Schmatz did a slide show in our town. Must have been in the middle of the 70th or 1976. Many of the best mountaineers lost their lifes in Himalaya and still more of the local sherpas.

Increasing the fee would absolutely not cut down on inexperienced climbers.

Agreed. Permits should be based on mountaneering skills. People that are not capable of setting up their robes and camps by themselves have no buisiness on a 8000m peak.

I love how they blame global warming for the extremely low temperatures and frost bite, it's like blaming massive rains and flooding for the drought.

Safety and caring for the well-being of the climbers is a distant second to the enormous profits made by the expedition companies in terms of priority, and that's never going to change unless the families of the victims are given a clear path to sue these companies into self-regulation. Shrinivas Sainis, who went missing and is presumed dead, was my boss and friend and I'm sickened by what happened to him.

These companies likely ask for a release before taking you there. So I don't see how a lawsuit would work. As tragic as it is, your boss knew the risk he was taking. What we don't want to see is Sherpas losing their lives on account of climbers simply not ready to tackle this climb.

I do not understand these safety discussions or searching anyone to blame. Neither your boss nor anyone else is forced to climb mount everest. It is not the only place to find challenge, nature experience, physical limits or simply tor money earning. The common risks, the problems with the unexperienced climbers amd eventually stucking in jam are known. So it is your own responsibility to climb or not to climb mount everest. Free choice is what counts.

definitely need some prerequisites for climbing this amazingly dangerous mountain. Also limit the number of climbers. Huddling on a line with other aspirants for hours to move up the peak is not mountain climbing. But all of this has been said before and no one really cares of listens. I feel that the Sherpas should not have to get a permit to go up since their their to help find and bring back loved ones if they can! They should be able to climb and not have to pay. Their amazing people that risk their own lives to help and rescue others. God bless them and keep them safe.

Poor old Chomolungma. Littered with the brave, the foolish, the inexperienced and the unfortunate. I wonder if some day she will come alive and shake them all of her flanks. In doing so she will rid herself of the detritus left in the wake of the living and the dead.

To desire the top of the worlds highest mountain, which it's all chance whether you die there or make history as a climber, but perhaps suicidal even if many climbers believe that doing so without dying. I heard that Nepal is setting regulations after this climbing season. I read it on a Nepal mounteering website.

Lucy Westlake did at 18 years old becoming the youngest American🇺🇸 female.🧗‍♀️ She had already climbed the US peaks including Denali. Now that's an Achievement. 🏆🌟

I was always taught that you are responsible for your own safety. Putting your life in the hands of low cost outfitters or the Nepalese government is not smart. You should know when you are truly ready for climbing an 8000 m peak-the major requirement other that having a spare $100K. We can all blame those who want to make a buck, but in the long run-only you can hand it over to them.

1. Increase permit fee to 20,000 then offer rebates for trash returned from the mountain. 2. Stricter requirements like Denali . 3. No first time climbers should even serve soup at base camp. 4. Emergency team on standby 5. Climb at your own risk 🤷🏻‍♀️

It's not Nepals fault. It is the fault of individual and the companies providing the services.

The reason behind this deadly season is simple, You Can't Fix Stupid.

Increase the cost of the permits to $20,000. Nepal probably won’t lose money and there will be fewer climbers.

It looks like a mountain trek when you have to queue up to pass an obstacle. There is no sense to queue up to reach something which is defined as not accessible. In other words, reaching the Everest Summit looks like a commercial joke which turns out to be deadly expensive.. The solution would be to no longer assist the trekkers ...

Everest has become such a joke

Too many “climbers” with too little experience. It seem that $$ has become the prime requirement, not certified experience. Time to institute a Police force at least at base camp and perhaps higher up. The number of people on the mountain breeds dangerous behaviors and seeing theft is just the beginning.

Having long lines to get to the summit of Everest is not only ridiculous but dangerous. I'm unsurprised at the number of deaths, considering that many climbers are stuck in the death zone longer than they should be. I wonder if more experienced climbers are getting permits on the Tibet side to avoid the traffic.

People will always be foolhardy. This has turned into a joke. It is now Nepals responsibility to restrict permits to only include accomplished climbers. This needs to stop already. The disrespect for this mountain is terrible.

All that trash left on the Mountain after people leave, such grate disrespect and disregard for the hidden dangers. Pretty sad people go up and eventually shit does go south, and then they pay the ultimate price.

There should be regulation. 80% less climbers, limit it to a maximum.per day, with only proven 8000 mtrs+ experience.

3:07: thefts at camp? Aren’t these all people who can afford this sort of expedition? And they are stealing from each other? That would be tragic, if the whole scenario did not make it so hilarious.

I imagine poor folk also roll in to basecamp just to steal things. Untill recently you didnt need a permit to go to basecamp

I didn't realize helicopters could create lift in air that thin. Make 1st timers climb together with Nepalese tour guide who could certify them to go solo or in private groups. There needs to be a better system of oversight and policing one another. Too many people with different agendas all trying to walk uphill in a single file line. Add to that beginners with no experience and half are not in shape anyway. Expect deaths.

I saw a video of a helicopter on top of Everest. It just touched the top and descended. The pilot was alone.

On KZread there is a video of a Custom made helicopter with extra power & stripped down to the bare minimum which touched down on the summit of Everest. obviously if you dumped a ordinary person on the summit they would die quickly.

@@helpstopanimalabuse8153 It was standard Eurocopter AS350 Squirrel with passenger seats removed. Not custom made, no extra power. The pilot was Didier Delsalle and he did it twice.

Thanks very much. I think Mr Delsalle was high up in the Nepalese Army. He did it once for a bunch of people who were involved in the 1996 tragedy where a bunch of people were very sick. He ended up landing in Camp 1. He was hailed a hero in Nepal & world wide which he thoroughly dserves. The climbers marked a "X" in a level piece of snow using Kool Aid. I read the book "Into thin air" & it was mentioned in the book in detail. I recommend the book. Thanks for replying.@@fuglbird

More sherpas means more deaths... of sherpas setting ropes and ladders for unfit and unexperienced climbers, but we don't count them so may be they companies have a point and I'm takaeing thing out of contex.

They talk of garbage left behind. I expect nothing less due to the fact that they are humans. One consolation, I'll never have to see it.

The Mountains should be left alone by even experienced climbers ; if u want self-enlightenment , go help some estanded person with u feet placed as firmly on land (as it can be)etc.. Yeh, the Sherpas HAVE t make a living so if there ARE t b climbers , maybe the self-indulgent greedy Companies shouldn't treat the experience as if it were a Theme Park tourist attraction. Maybe limit it t 5-10 climbs per every 3mths instead of opening the floodgates of ...any1 goes(even if its 20-50 ppl in a 1mth session ).. That way, the Sherpas won't have t b literally scraping (maybe) umpteen of dead carcasses up each wk etc

I can solve it even quicker. There grown men and women. If they want to risk their lives to climb, let them.

I guess if there's good money to be made these fly by night outfits will take anybody who can pay. Once the clients sign the legal document and they have their money, they can just leave them up there to die.

I can't understand what draws people to the mountains to climb. It does not look fun at all. Money talks, so they will take anyones money. I say, if climbing a mountain is the most important thing to you, then go. But....be prepared to die and be frozen through eternity on that mountain.

Nepal is a very poor country. Becoming a sherpa is the best paying job though they are grossly underpaid considering how must these climbing guide companies earn per head. It's exploitation at its worse.

This 'climate change' thing is awesome! An intentionally vague (had to be as the original, 'Global Warming', was too obviously laughably bogus even for our illiterate gullible age) meaningless term that can be posited as causative for, well, anything! If I'm ever negligently liable for anything in the future, I sure know what I'm blaming!
