In this video, I pull my BMW E46 M3 into the garage after months of working on the E30, and give it some well-deserved love and attention, in the form of a new intake from the guys at Eventuri and Evolve.

18:17 Conclusion
20:49 Stock vs Eventuri Sound
I’ve always dreamed of fitting the full BMW E46 M3 CSL carbon air box to my car, for the noise alone, but with their prices soaring, I think the opportunity may have vanished for me to pick one up, so I;'ve been stuck with the stock plenum, air box, and panel filter for years.
Eventuri’s unique E46 M3 intake design has been on my radar for quite some time, but I’ve always been a sceptic of bolt-on aftermarket intakes, they often look a lot better than they perform, and in some cases even cause a loss of power thanks to things like heat soak in the engine bay.
After doing plenty of research into the Eventuri intake for the M3, I came to realise that this one is different. It’s clearly evident that the guys at Eventuri and Evolve take engineering very seriously, and are very proud to show that off by sharing detailed data and even air-flow models from their research and development to back up their stated power gains.
After all, more air and fuel in equals more power, so increasing the intake air velocity and smoothness is certainly compelling in the quest for performance. The Eventuri intake achieves this by invoking the venturi effect (hence the brand name) thanks to the design of the bell-shaped carbon fibre filter housing and aerodynamic reverse cone air filter.
For the BMW E46 M3, Eventuri state increased horsepower of 10-15hp and 8-12ft-lb of torque, which I find to be impressive on the standard ECU map tune of this already highly strung naturally aspirated S54 powered car.
Further to this, they promise upwards of 360hp when the E46 M3 Eventuri intake is paired with their Evolve remap.
As stated in the video, I’m not really trying to tease more performance out of the S54 motor, the stock power is more than enough for the road use the car gets. It never goes on track either.
But the promises of a performance gain does provide plenty of reassurance in the quality and design of the E46 M3 Eventuri intake, and I can feel pretty certain I won’t be hampering the performance of my M3 by fitting one.
However, what really pushed me to pull the trigger on buying an M3 Eventuri intake was the promise of aural pleasure.
Many owners attest to the increased induction roar and intake noise generated by Eventuri’s design, stating that the Eventri intake effectively turns the M3’s S54 engine into a musical instrument played by your right foot, just like the CSL plenum is famed for.
Knowing the full CSL airbox is out of reach, and discovering how accessible the Eventuri intake is compared, in terms of both cost and difficulty, I had to have one.
Once I’d got over the beauty of the intake I’d received, fitting it to the car was a breeze. Evolve Eventuri have done an excellent job with their PDF guide. Installation only requires simple hand tools, so even someone with no mechanical experience would succeed in fitting it. I was off to a good start.
Once fitted I allowed the car to warm through, initially unsure of any change in sound as the car idled. On the open road, with sufficient oil temperature, I was able to apply more than half throttle for the first time and was immediately showered by harmonious induction noise as I sat in the driver's seat grinning from ear to ear.
It seems the Eventuri intake makes most of its tuneful intake noise between 3000 and 6000 rpm with the throttle bodies wide open. In this rev range, a very definite and characterful bark has appeared, adding to the already great driving experience of the E46 M3.
So far, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Eventuri intake for BMW E46 M3. This video is not sponsored and all opinions are my own.

Thanks for the video. I think this might be best E46 M3 Eventuri intake review. I have been long searching for such a good quality back to back noise comparison. I am planning to buy this kit just to amplify the lovely induction noise. And just like you I would not expect a power increase; a claimed 10HP+ increase without engine tuning seems unlikely considering that CSL has different cams and a whole new carbon induction system to increase power from 343 to 360HP. Anyways, waiting for more flyby videos!

thank you for the best review on this I've seen/heard so far! (and I've watched a lot of these) Seems like a no-brainer compared to the CSL-style intakes in terms of value. Just can't justify the cost on my 172k-mile M3 for the "real deal" even though it's in excellent mechanical shape. But this seems like it'll give me what I want without the hassle. Let me return the favor by recommending the 4.10 diff upgrade, if you haven't done it already (going to watch your other videos now, maybe you have) EDIT: looks like you just got into this thing, let me tell you that the 4.10 final drive and Autosolutions short shifter are near essential OEM+ upgrades for this wonderful machine.

  • @SPANNERRASH

Thank you Marty, and yes I concluded the same about it being a better value option to the CSL intake, I'm still really enjoying the sound, it makes the already wonderful S54 a lot more characterful. Thanks for the 4.10 diff recommendation, this is definitely something I'm considering as a future upgrade for the car. My only reservations are the cost and the additional RPM when motorway driving, but maybe that's a smaller issue than I imagine? Regarding the shifter I've installed a 545i shifter and F10 M5 illuminated gear knob which shortens and sharpens the shift nicely. I've actually had this M3 for something like 7 years, and made a few subtle tweaks to it, although there's not much on the channel about this car currently as most of this was don't way before I ever thought of recording any of it. 😀

Cheers Matt! I'm still loving the Eventuri filter, absolutely no issues to report at all. I also saw people complaining about certain types of filter and the MAF, but I think that's more often relating to the oils some of these filters are soaked in from new. You quite often notice the K&N style panel filters are quite greasy to the touch and this is what coats the MAF and causes it to play up. the Eventuri filter feels like the dry type, just the same as the BMC panel filter it replaced.

Hi Jon, really hard to represent what something really sounds like in the flesh. Too many factors like what my microphone can record, and what sounds your speakers turn that into. Check 05:43 in the video to see where I mounted the mic in the engine bay. I used a combination of cabin and engine bay sound. I think the key here is to check the comparison between stock and Eventuri, then you can get a sense of the difference, and that is a genuine representation as I mounted the mic exactly the same both times. Hope that helps!

  • @SPANNERRASH

    @SPANNERRASH

    6 ай бұрын

Its tough to represent the cabin noise alone with a mic so to get more of a comparison using cabin combined with engine bay sound worked well. With this intake I'd say its all positives. It's not "very loud", nor is it constant. So it wont get on your nerves if you daily drive the car. It is louder and a more aggressive intake tone only when you exercise the throttle pedal. So when you're driving spiritedly it sounds awesome, when you're cruising around you'd barely notice a difference. Enough of the sound reaches your ears as you drive for it to really enhance the driving experience, it's very noticeable for all the right reasons. I'd 100% recommend it, the only downside is they are quite expensive to buy.

Hi mate, it's a E60 545i shifter combined with an F10 M5 illuminated gear knob. Really like it, makes the shift a bit stiffer though but I don't mind that.

@@SPANNERRASH there are 2 versions of the shifter, I'm guessing you got the 'shorter version'? I think part # ends in 373

@@SPANNERRASH thanks for the reply man, also how did you get the F10 knob to work? im assuming you just removed the leather surround and mated it to the E46 surround?

@@BMWarrior1No worries! Yeah I took the plastic frame off the M3's original shift boot surround by removing the staples etc, then swapped it onto the F10 M5 shift boot which is integrated with the knob. So it was a bit more involved than just swapping the shifter but it was worthwhile in the end and I'm super happy with it! I love that I got to retain the illumination.

open filter enclosed in a hot engine bay without a sealed, direct cold air feed?! well done sir, you just paid money for lower air density. please explain why you want less air density in one paragraph or less.

Interesting take, but the filter is fed a stream of cold air via the brake duct scoop. Otherwise I'd agree that a warm air intake is a bad idea! Eventuri have done quite a bit of R&D to make this an undeniable performance upgrade, check it out.

those filters trade sound for filtration. not a good trade off hence why the csl air box with oem csl filter is better

The Eventuri filter is extremely high quality, which is obvious when you're having a close look at it. It's still an aftermarket style filter though so probably doesn't remove as many fine particles as an OEM paper one, but I'd say it was at least as good as a K&N or a Pipercross style air filter. Like you say, versus a paper one, these aftermarket filters trade some filtration for sound and air flow. As I don't do thousands of miles in the M3 these days, I think the filter is more than adequate. 😄

For me the before sound (stock exhaust) is much more better with those metallic resonances 🙏

To spend the money at first place I think I will put a karbonius intake manifold respecting the stock exhaust so the induction sound should be pretty good too

First of all, congratulations for the video. Secondly, I want to ask you what attracted you to the Eventuri compared to the classic CSL filter. Do you find that you had a notable increase in performance as declared or did you have to remap first? The CSL airbox claims 4 hp more and the Eventuri even 12. it seems like a lot. greetings from Italy and thanks!

Thanks! A full CSL airbox is multiples more expensive than the Eventuri intake so cost was a factor for sure. I also really like that the Eventuri is effectively a bolt-on upgrade, which requires no remap to work, and can be just as easily bolted-off. 😄 It's an extremely high quality component and its backed by proper R&D so I'm more than happy to have it on my M3. Regarding the result, it makes the car sound amazing. I'm sure that a full CSL airbox sounds even better, but I'm very pleased with the Eventuri's sound. I'm not sure I notice any improvement to power, I likely would if I got the counterpart remap, but sadly I haven't got that. Luckily I didn't buy it to gain any power, just to gain induction roar. 😁 Hope that helps!
