    Just signed up for pole vaulting for the first time ever in track and this is the one event in Track they will cut you from the event if you can't do it correctly and I misunderstood how hard it truly looks I had no idea you have to do a whole backwards bend and a handstand in the air while quickly climbing up the pole to get to other side...what did I get myself into wish me luck everyone

    You really shouldn't ever be doing a backbend when vaulting....or climbing up the pole for that matter lol

    How do you determine your run up distance?

  • @Thatguyujustmet

    @Thatguyujustmet

    5 жыл бұрын

    For a 2 step (right, left, right, left): by judging your grip on the pole when it’s in the box and then taking 4 big steps back. 3 step (right, left, right, left, right, left): 10ft back from 2 step, 4 step: 11ft back. 3-4 step may need small adjustments. 6/7 step you may judge your grip and turn around on the spot and run back with someone marking your 6th left step. Don’t do this alone though, take some time and even spend some money to work a coach first.

    How long does it take you to hit max velocity...? Usually a 15-16 step run-up.

  • @sorrym8421

    @sorrym8421

    5 жыл бұрын

    You want to reach your maximum speed, so, counting your left foot strikes go from where you are supposed to take of with pole in hand and in box, fully extended, turn around with pole in hand keeping your feet in that same spit are run down the runway as if you where vaulting. Get some people to get your 6th, 7th, and 8th step.(those are usually how many lefts it takes most vaulers to reach maximum speed, you might be faster or need more steps). Mark your starting position with exact measurements (like heal or toe) and go for a vault stating consistent with your run-through.

    There runways should have measurements written on them so vaulters don't have to measure them themselves at each meet.

    Nice video for beginners but I would have left out the back flip in the pit because kids have injured themselves seriously falling off the edge. Aside from that Sam Kendricks is one of the best role models for young vaulters with his work ethic and humility.
