This is the story about how I joined a corp as a newbro, fell in love with the corp, and then left it to become a solo nomad.
I understand, that technically I'm not really much of a 'Nomad' Since I tend to spend the majority of my time in the one system, but you get the idea.

    Great story, and I can relate. The last time I quit EVE was after some weeks in a null sec alliance I was invited in by a friend. I bought billions in skill injectors to get my character up to the tasks they needed me for, but once there everyone fled to stations even on a single red in system. I was so disappointed that noone stayed out to shoot the reds, we were just sitting there until system was clear again and we could go on with our business. It was super frustrating and I was done with it all.

    I am in a null sec corp, the first one collapsed due to lack of activity, the second I have been there 959 days now. A lot of alliances are happy if you can just fly a cheap crucifer, I have never been pressured into injecting LSI's to get into certain ships, in either null sec corps. The thing I love about Eve is there are so many ways to play it, enjoying your story hope you post more video's.

    The thing I loved about the corp that I was in, was the fact I didn’t have to fly anything I didn’t want to. In fact the only time I was in a ship that I was asked to be in, was when we were escorting a members orca through wormholes to get back home from Jita. Sucks that the politics got in the way, not just for me but for a lot of people involved within the corp.

    The same exact thing happened to me. I was in a mining corp for a few years, and just got tired of being docked up and playing my alts due to constant war dec's. That and the reasons you mentioned I am now solo... and loving it. One thing to add. If you find someone you like and trust, just make them blue in your contacts, and when ever you see them, just fleet up. It's like a mini, temporary Corp.

    Very nice and funny at the same time regarding early discoveries of how things really work in Eve (jettison, politics etc.). I solved the null sec dilemma: I keep a character for null sec with all of that (pvp, discord, comms, politics, moving and so on and so forth) and another character for high sec (when I simply want to chill and ease my mind). Playing only in null will exhaust me and playing only in HS will bore me to death, but this kind of null / hs balance and activities adds that variety I need to play this game as long as it lasts.

    It's amazing how every single person has a different story with this game. I started in PVE combat and ended in PVP combat until 2010 when it took too long to get the party on. Getting into nullsec was hilarious to start with. I made every mistake one could possibly make but learned from every single one of them and ended up pretty deadly in anything subcap. My heart is still in interdictors after all these years. They are so evil in the right places.

    Similar experience with the politics. The moment I noticed how much of it was everywhere, I went straight to wormhole space. Built a tribe. Never managed to get cohesive fleets together, but produced some great solo pilots. Coincidentally we named the corp the "Warp Nomads" and started much the same way as your own group, two homies hanging out. Good times.

    I started playing Eve this week as it came up as a suggestion while researching what Star Wars games were out there. I wasn't interested in swinging a light saber or fighting against stormtroopers. I wanted to explore and participate in commerce. This fit the bill. I just joined my first corporation today on day 4, mainly because I was jumped in low sec while out exploring (I more than repaid the replacement cost in the following 2 hours anyway). They were only 8 jumps away so I spent 2 hours consolidating my inventory to fit into a Venture and an Incursus for the move. I sold the 2 spare Ventures and Imicus that I got as rewards, as well as unfitting then scrapping the freebie Velators. I moved from high sec (0.9) to a low sec (0.5 with a few 0.3 and 0.2 neighbors). The fleet was out hunting Trigs while I moved in, but I took an opportunity to check out the neighboring system. Threw a rail gun and mining laser on the Incursus to mine a little Jaspet. Had to fight off two Serpentis spawns, but otherwise the neighboring system was empty. Earily quiet. The corporate recruiters in chat were happy to answer the questions of the other recruit and I. They were impressed by the amount of research we were putting in and felt we'd be a good fit. I like their schedule set up. Moon Mining Monday's, Trig Hunt Thursday, and Saturday PVP all of which is not 100% required (just participate in one aspect). I'll give it a week before I participate in a Trig Hunt, I just don't have anything with big firepower yet. But hopefully they don't get into a full blown war.

  • @Expedishun

    The weirdly magical thing about fleets is you dont need to have big firepower. Anything really that can help in a fight, Jamming targets, boosting shields etc. It all helps, dont be afraid to jump in. Trial by fire is always the best way!

  • @suluklu

    @suluklu

    fire power is not the key .. in fleet you need ace commander he will get you big kills with tiny ships and if you want some solo pvp again if you are experienced pilot you can kill much bigger and expensive ships even with a tiny frig .. thats hard but very achievable

    @@suluklu this comment aged like milk. I left that corp over a month ago. I had been living in NPC null sec and been cooperating with the local defense fleet, but commuting into my Corp's home system for moon mining ops. Corp was annoyed that I wasn't participating in Incursions or PVP roams (they are EU times zones, I am US Central). I was disappointed in the lack of industry and trade. So I left that corp, started my own and made a PI alt. The defense fleet people and I trade all the time. They buy my PI and mining barges. I buy their weapons and ammo. I'm happy to spend a few hours a day ratting and mining all while chatting with 30+ folks in fleet. I don't worry about firepower (currently 431 dps with a T1 missile & drone Praxis) as we all hit combat anomalies and DED sites as a group.

    My experience has been that "do what you want no strings attached" corps in low or null sec tend to have a very large string attached- if there's no expectation that any members will form up to defend territory and structures, you're going to get pushed around and have to move a lot. This doesn't fit with everyone's play style and there's nothing wrong with playing the game how you want to play, but any corp or alliance that has staying power will expect you to contribute beyond just mining.

  • @Expedishun

    @Expedishun

    Жыл бұрын

    Hundred percent, I get that i would have to contribute beyond just mining, and I’ve no problems with that at all. What I do have a problem with is having to contribute when the alliance won’t even do the basics of backing us up.

  • @TheLime-wd3yu

    @TheLime-wd3yu

    @@Expedishun absolutely, there's a lot of toxic alliances and leaders out there. I've always had the best experiences in small groups that hold a few systems and do enough PvP that the locals don't bother trying to bash structures and big alliances wouldn't want to waste the resources to stomp us. Alliances that expand and expand with no strategic plan tend to collapse, there's no safety in numbers if your numbers just scatter as soon as a neut appears in system. Looking forward to your exploration series!

    Been playing on and off since 2008. Have quit for years at a time with not expecting to come back, only to dust it off again and enjoy it in an entirely new way (for me) everytime. That is hitting diminishing returns by now though. I've more or less done everything I ever had a goal of doing, and more, and now struggle to find things to do. I can fly and fit every ship. It takes a lot of time, but for a solo nomad, that is the end game I think, when there is no more frontier, and there is no more skills in queue that you really need or want. I have a few stories I could share, but I'll share my favorite one, the peak of my eve career. When the rental alliances first came about, it was innovative because it enabled the large blocks to put those many hundreds of systems in their territories to use. I got into it by accident, but back then the rage was to have passive tanked drone ships, and you could effectively go into a high end combat site and practically go afk as the drones and passive tank did their work (they've since made some changes where this isn't exactly possible anymore). I was doing well enough and not bothered enough to be concerned that I was ratting afk in a rattlesnake worth maybe around 1.5 billion. I think I was watching a movie with my roommates and checked on it. I discovered I was under attack. After my nerves settled, I slowly realized the 6 people that had tackled me bit off more than they could chew (frigates and destroyers). I passive tanked the npcs and the players, and slowly picked them off one by one with my abundant drones. They proceeded to curse and flame me for hacking, when in reality, I was just hyper passive tanked, and they failed to adapt to the situation in not attacking my drones. Probably the only time I ever won pvp after thinking I'd lost it. One time, for fun, I tried to corner the entire highsec market on rifters. I was flying around with hundreds of rifters in my orca cargo. It didn't work out to a profit, but it still made for a good way to make some savings and crash the market, but it was still hair brained and fun. Watching your video gave me an idea though. There are NPSI groups for pvp, I wonder if there would be any utility in starting a NPSI miner and ratting collective, but it also sounds like a bad idea, target on the back. Be careful so close to Jita orca mining. Its relatively rare, but you will get those pirate coming in with destroyer fleets for alpha and things like that. Different respective ball games, but as a soft pitch for you to mix it up, low sec mining materials are lucrative right now. Can mine on your toes and get a feel for an area or even base some operations in various areas, there are quiet spots. You can also do some hybrid null play in npc null sec. Also, generally speaking, I'd recommend getting into at least some industry, start off specializing in what you like to use for example, corner the market in orcas haha (the nomad's swiss army knife btw, I love that big dumb ship!) Someday I will return and get bored of it all over again haha. I'm currently afk shooting at structures on singularity in a carrier 🫣

    I played from 2006 to 2013. I was Gallente, was talked into joining friends from around the world playing Battlezone II at the time. Great group of guys. We were corp mates throughout most of my time in EvE. We did everything from missions to null sec and wormhole space. PvP and PvE usually in fleet. We fought wars together, own space together, learned from and taught each other, etc. Good times. 👍 I wonder if Katarrin is still in the archives 🤔 I was an armor incursion fleet commander for the last year or so. Got to know quite a few people from around the world 🌎 Used to be a fun game for sure. We did mine together as well. Mining in unknown space was HUGE. I owned a Hulk, not completely fully skilled and an Orca. I was more into military skills to focus more on keeping us safer. Mining was good for when one just wants to relax, listen to the tunes and convrse. We didn't really have rules, we just got along well together and always agreed what we were going to do when.

    Interesting story. When I think back many years ago to when I first started EvE I went through a similar situation; In over my head in an nullsec renter industry/mining corp that got swept up by politics and war until we were forced back into highsec. One guy even made a big effort trying to build up our PvP capability and train us so we wouldn't be pushed around but the corp response was mostly apathy. When he eventually left I quit the game too. Trying again a few years later as a solo player was a much better starting experience. I could explore the game at my own pace with no pressure or obligations, even dipping my toes into PvP via public NPSI fleets. I suggest new players take their time, it will be easier to find the right group to play with when you have a better idea of what you want out of the game.

    Had a similar experience. Joined one of those "training newbie" corps, with a tie to a null-sec corp. The help they gave vs the expectations on my time ("the run will be just for 2 hrs, don't worry" 4 hours later, it is already midnight and I was not anywhere close to our home system). That happened several times that I just quit the game entirely. That was around a decade ago. Have recently started playing again (starting from 0) and it is so much fun, due to being able to quit at any point I want, anywhere, if I have to go and do something, due to an unexpected event. And all the while, I can mine, explore, pve, whatever. And once I get enough skills, maybe even pvp. At my own pace, with my own demand on time.

    1) Don't buy what you can't afford to lose. Cliché, I know, but true both in EVE and in real life. 2) Don't anchor any structures with your main corporation. Create a sister corporation (a holding corp) and just give your corporation (exclusive) access through standings. This makes it so your main corporation can't be the target of a structure based war declaration. 3) Don't let anyone tell you what to do, except in fleet. You consented to taking orders by joining the fleet. You can retract consent by leaving the fleet. 4) Similarly, you consent to working with other members in a corporation towards the goals set by the corporation by joining that corporation. If that corporation or some members are causing problems for you, take it up with leadership and/or HR or leave. 5) If point 2 isn't possible or you get into a war another way, don't let a war or pvp scare you. It's an essential part of the game, even if you're a snuggly carebear. Undercutting someone else's prices on the market is PVP. Mining in a belt that someone else thinks is his is a form of PVP. Both those things can lead to escalated conflicts, but conflict doesn't require a rational reason. Some people do it for fun. Some people do it for ISK. 6) Don't just make friends. Make allies. Allies who can help you in a war. If you're a mainly industrial corporation, chances are you're not gonna have a lot of good PVP members. That's perfectly fine. A lot of PVP corps can be hired. If you don't have the ISK, you might be able to promise fuel blocks, ammo, paste, ships or something else for them for a specific period of time. A promissory note of sorts can go a long way. 7) It's your responsibility to understand basic diplomacy. Standing information is available to you. If you fail to understand the lay of the land and its people, that's on you. 8) You were always a solo nomad, you just failed to realize it. Stop blaming other people for your problems.

    This is the reality of EVE, once a corp grows enough to get noticed, it will inevitably come into contact with other corps and power blocks. And that's when politics and diplomacy enters the picture, and you will have to negotiate (sometimes with words, other times - with guns) your way into settling somewhere. Over my 12+ years of EVE I've never been in a player corp (other than my own), but I've known many people who did as I like making friends while going about my business in EVE, and most corps evolve in one of two ways - one goes the way I outlined above and it eventually finds it's place somewhere between (or a part of) these power blocks, or it simply stays in the high sec until it eventually collapses as people get bored and either quit the corp, or quit the game altogether. Also I've noticed that most people don't really want to defend their stuff and would rather hole up and wait the trouble out while docked up, my corp (of me and my alts) has been a part of a highsec alliance once which was wardecced (back then it was possible to wardec any player corp regardless of it having any structures in space), and when I tried to rally people to al least put up some kind of fight, it turned out that nobody was up to it. And so that alliance died. The lesson I learnt is that it makes sense to cooperate (either enter a corp, or join alliance) only with people who are ready to fight for their place under a sun, because otherwise one day some corp will come after your group, and that will very likely be the end of it - even if those folks only attacked you for the content and didn't have any plans to contest your place. So to sum it up - you will have to be willing to do PvP whether you like it or not, carebearing in high sec sooner or later will bore you to hell. It doesn't mean that you have to spend all your EVE time roaming around and engaging anything you encounter, but you need to be comfortable and experienced enough with PvP to be able to put up a fight when situation calls for it. In my opinion participating in faction warfare is a great way to get some PvP action, it's not very expensive to get started (unless you do some stupid stuff like flying expensive blingy fits), it can be quite lucrative as it gives you access to navy ships for like half of their market price (just one or two completed scout navy complexes will typically provide enough LP for a navy frigate BPC). I've created a new alt a few months ago to get into FW (so that my main character would not be essentially banned from half of highsec systems), and so far I enjoy it a lot! So I would recommend anyone to at least give it a try, as at the very least it will make them feel more comfortable in a lowsec space, and will teach them how to survive and thrive in such environment.

  • @Expedishun

    @Expedishun

    Honestly, the amount I've seen about Faction Warfare recently, is insane. Really starting to get my intrigue. But, at this moment its something that I'm slowly researching by day. Don't wanna jump head first without having at least a decent bit of knowledge about it. From what I hear, from pretty much everyone who is doing it, is it's a lot of fun!

  • @asmi06

    @asmi06

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Expedishun It is a lot of fun, but you have to approach it with a right attitude and expectations to enjoy it. 1. You WILL die, a lot! And that's OK, even the best PvPers out there die on a regular basis. Each FW complex type has restrictions on types of ships which can enter it to help level the playing field and make fights more fair, but there is always a chance to get jumped on by multiple small ships, which will more than likely end up with you losing. But you can use the same tactics to get an upper hand if you want, though I prefer solo fights. 2. As a concequence of (1) don't fly anything expensive at first. You can start from regular T1 frigates and still get some kills, but like I said, you will quickly get access to cheap navy frigates, and they are the highest "tier" allowed in the scout navy complexes, so you will be on even terms with anything that your rivals can fly. The goal here is to always have at least a couple of replacement ships fitted and ready to go at your staging base, so that as soon as you get killed, you can quickly reship and continue. 3. Begin with doing defensive complexes as rats there are going to be on your side, giving you that little extra edge which often decides frigate fights. This also usually means you will face less opposition and so can rack up LP to move into navy ships. 4. Don't be afraid to talk to people in a "Militia" chat channel, you can get valuable intel, find out if there are any militia fleets going on (if that's what you feel like doing), or simply ask for advice or help in case odds are stacking against you. 5. Treat all neutrals as hostile - it's a lowsec afterall, try avoiding them if you can, and you can ask for help in militia chat if some of them cause too much trouble. 6. Do not attack your fellow militia members, and if you do by mistake (it happens), try to apologize and offer a compensation. And in general use common sense and act like you would want them to act towards you. 7. It's best to do it using an alt because while you are in a militia, you will be effectively banned from two opposing factions' space, so it would be good to have another account for cases when you do need to fly into that space. Good luck!

She flirted a lot with the CEO of the corp and he seemed to enjoy it. At one point she got upset because he didnt do what she wanted or whatever reason. Next thing she does is joined a nearby Russian alliance that has nothing to do and tells them how horrible we are or somesuch. Capitals jumped in and camped the system for weeks and and she gloated about it. I wasn't into all this drama but there sure is a lot of it. We had to pack up and leave since this Russian alliance had nothing better to do. Solo is the way to go with Eve Online but at the same time, then it's like, what's the point?

    In my experiance how a person gets on in EVE entirely comes down to where they land. You ended up in a deeply shitty corp in a deeply shitty situation. To recruit a newbro into a wardecced corp is just shitty behaviour. I also disagree a bit about Alliances/corps not having your best intererests in mind. Sure thats probably not at all uncommon. There are certainly shitty and pointless corps. But a decent corp/alliance will give you oportunities and securities that you wont get as a solo player. Im not trying not to make this a sales pitch, so i wont mention the corp/alliance im in. If you have been near Oipo you Abolutely will have seen us around. But benefits? SRP for one, mining fleets, pvp fleets etc. All the trimings. A nice welcome package. As an example a miner of ours got ganked a while back. The alliance and freinds went to war for that and mightily ruined the gankers day. Content is king, a good CEO will be looking to create content as much as running the day to day.
