Eve of Destruction sung by its author, Pf Sloan

Ойын-сауық

Pf Sloan's Eve of Destruction lyric..."You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'" single-handedly changed the constitution and the voting age from 21 to 18. Here, in the living room, he made musical history, doing a full set of his oldies and newies... as they were meant to be delivered... with the heart and soul, thoughtfully conveyed. This just doesn't happen with the reclusive, elusive, Mr. Sloan.
Hear the story... hear the song... at 3:37

i met pf sloan at a camp years and years back i played guitar at a talent show and i played a metal rift from just off the top of my head he loved it and got me in to folk music i was only 12 or 13 at the time he told me to never give up on my dreams and i started playing in bars and clubs and got in to being a stagehand after i broke my arm and wrist after saving my sister from being run over by a car well 15 years of working in music i had to get out because of my health now i live in a small town in Nebraska and cant work a paying job i get ssdi and volunteer at the fire department in my village and im divorced for the 2nd time i have 4 kids and the women that im with now is a nurse and by far the best women ive ever been with this old music man cant ask for much more in life i still play guitar but i now teach it and all the teens in my town just enjoy hanging out with my kids and family and also love to play music and hear stories from when i would go on tour with famous bands and also party with them.

I've always felt a deep connection to "Eve of Destruction." As a teenager, this song impressed and moved me. I still treasure the songs written by singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s; they learned and evolved continuously and honored the songs they wrote and sang.

My wife & I were driving along on Phil's birthday, Sept 18. I mentioned how he had answered me when I sent birthday wishes 2 years ago. Upon googling, we discovered he passed last Nov. wife switched stations & we heard Secret Agent Man. I am sure Phil received my message of gratitude, so this is for people who were less present. Enjoy your afterlife, P.F. Sloan.

He sure was an amazing man and artist and I so loved his penthouse apartment in the village it was the entire top floor in a HUGE building and it was all open concept and he didn't have a lot in it but it was very cozy and nice there and we spent a few hours there with him before we brought him back with us to Rome New York for his outdoor concert at our Ampitheatre and it was a fantastic concert. I was dating Gino Daniello and he had come back from California where he was Sony and Cher's manager so he knew everyone in the music profession.

At the end of the concert he was selling the Sailover CD, an autographed copy! I wanted to speak with him but Andrew Loog Oldham suddenly appeared, wanting to reminisce. He provided much joy to me through his solo recordings and of course the Fantastic Baggys, truly fantastic and a must have! RIP P.F. Sloan.

Correction: The first introduction in Congress of what became the 26th Amendment was in 1941...The same day as the draft age was lowered. Old enough to fight, old enough to vote became a rallying cry in World War 2 and Korea and Vietnam BEFORE this song. Eisenhower called for lowering the voting age in two State of the Union addresses. It wasn't this song (which is amazing) it was the unfinished business of JFK pushed by his brother Senator Ted Kennedy in the Voting Rights Act of 1970.

Very poignant and true preamble. All of us frail humans struggle for legitimacy. Those of us who are put on pedestals are most to be pitied because they have to hide their struggle from their adoring worshippers. I have always loved the song" Eve of Destruction" and Barry Mcguire absolutely stayed it. We definitely are "on the Eve of Destruction". We are also on the Eve of Salvation. Ps 37:9,10.
