Kidd Kat That's sick! Must be cool to be a long time friend of Amy
This is a must listen for those who want to know the origins of Amy Lee's singing. Truly vintage video of Young Amy singing 1999, pre-breakout! You can hear the raw talent.
Her youthful voice was so unique. It had this really light, angelic, innocent, vulnerable, soft sound to it, yet it was haunting and nostalgic. This was what made her stand out and won her fame. She kind of lost that with age however. Her voice darkened, it got more weight and depth to it and nowadays she sounds more powerful than soft. She still has beautiful, breathy, soft vocals whenever she wants to, but her voice has gotten so much stronger. I miss this youthful side to it. The last time we got to hear this voice was in the "Fallen" era. Of course she was still young then. It was only natural that she'd end up sounding more like a woman, but still, I can't help but miss that sound. It was what attracted me to Evanescence initially. That being said, she's improved so much vocally in regards to control and technique. She surely matured vocally. It's just that for me, there is nothing that will ever replace this youthful sound of her voice.

Yes, you're right before the Evanescence Album (2011) Amy had something very beautiful in her voice, the vulnerability. But I think that she still has this, since her voice in the interviews is not so much different, however somehow she prefers to use her "opera" voice.

Amy's personality and voice are really close to how she is today... Not surprising but nice to see.. see this with a lot of bands but very few people remain to be that same nice person despite fame and fortune...
I feel incomplete without "Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming, cannot cease for the fear of Silent nights. Oh how I long for the deep sweet dreaming. The goodness of imaginary lights." Ben was the better songwriter he still is (but his new band has not the perfect vocal for it). But Amys voice is so "amazing" that is enough to keep Evansecens alive. Fallen was their best album not even with sells because it was direct music and had something to say. Amy want the "special" stuff in her music but thanks to Nirvana we know music is not about special it is about being simple and great lyrics. She will never make such a album like fallen alone. I can listen for days "my Immortal" because it is the perfect song for her voice...but she wrote it together with Ben...I admit i am a little bit sad, because she could make so many great songs but instead she focus on her view of art and that is far away from "Fallen"

Amy is the bigger part of the band and the main song writer but I do wish Ben stayed , his guitar and song writing with Amy is what made it special, but you can replace a guitar player...not the lead singer in this case . Fallen was the best album but the 2nd was very good also and 3rd was ok. Man it would be cool if Ben came back and they made another album together

Thank you so much for sharing! This is a true treasure! And we even get to hear a new song which I absolutely love! Too bad we never get a studio version of it. It's a mix of the Missing Demo + Understanding + Where Will You Go. Sounds so haunting and mysterious. I will never understand why they didn't decide to release it. But they produced this song, because they use the instrumental as CD playback so it has to exist at least as an instrumental. Would you be so kind and upload the audio from your recording as FLAC/WAV data? If we have the best quality that's possible we can remaster the sound and remove some audience noises.
If I had a time machine this would be the first place I would go
