Evan Williams Bottled in Bond and Wild Turkey 101 Bourbon

Episode 274. This ended up being a shorter conversation, but I enjoy Evan Williams BiB. Easy to find, sweet with a bit of spice. It doesn't hold my interest long, but makes a fine Old Fashioned and OK neat. Is this a favourite BiB for you? What is your experience? #whiskyfabric#whiskytube#whiskyneighbour

By pure coincidence, tonight my first glass was Evan Williams bottled in bond, and my second is Wild Turkey 101. While the Turkey is more complex, the Evan Williams is holding up pretty well in comparison. And here in the States (Albuquerque, NM) the Evan Williams is markedly cheaper - $19.99 as opposed to $25.99 for the Wild Turkey. 🙂

I find EW to be a very mild bourbon, not harsh on the palate like some can be. I feel it makes a good intro bourbon for those who have never tried bourbon before. WT-101 is what my father used for his "gold remedy." He'd pour a few fingers of it and slam it down. I don't know if it helped his cold, but he sure seemed to feel better.

In general, I agree with everything this video stated about Evan Williams bottled in bond compared to Wild Turkey. Even the Wild Turkey 81 has more of a peppery taste while the Evan Williams is milder both bottled in bond and the black label. I don't necessarily prefer one over the other based on cocktails or mixing, but neat pours is just based on whether a friend prefers which brand they are used to. Both Evan Williams and Wild Turkey brands are safe choices that I don't have a problem buying and restocking and they are standards I compare to other whiskeys as a whole. Thanks for the video. Why do people regard the Evan Williams bottled in bond higher is that on occasion under blind tasting, the bottle does get ranked higher than expected, because there's not much that is inoffensive to most people but dramatic flavor profiles on some rival whiskeys do turn off people such as lack of a finish, over oaked, too peaty flavor, too sweet, metallic taste, etc. If a whiskey is down the line not overbearing in any one flavor direction, the bottle has a chance to out compete youthful and more 'experimental' varieties of whiskey.

Howdy Jon! I 've just had two pours to compare, as EW BIB got given to me on my birthday) And frankly at first I didn't quite like it and the profile (way too harsh, too much oak, lackin' in complexity, kinda bitter, way too overtanned like strong brewed black ceylon tea at its maximum) But the next day when i got home being frozen to the bone, it gave me a nice good warming up))) But yet, I'd put W.T. 101 high above B.I.B. and not 'coz' it was my first "bourbon love" but because of its comlexity as compared to E.W. and easyness to drink neat (i'm "a straight - neat drink' guy) But in either way t'was interesting to be watching you comparing them both!) Keep up reviews, best regards from Moscow, Russia, Cheers!

I also prefer the Wild Turkey 101 but Evan Williams BiB is super cheap in Texas. I can get a 1.75L of EW BiB for $22 compared to $38 for WT101. For a fifth it's more like $12 versus $19. Guess I'll just have to keep buying both.

Good video and I found some of the same observations. I found some of the comments interesting too. I usually prefer Irish or Scotch Whiskeys, and find the EW white label pretty decent, good sweet flavor, mild and not too much oak. The Wild Turkey was not for me, it has that typical wild turkey flavor, I am simply just not a fan. The EW isn’t as good as some more expensive brands, but I really enjoy it for what it is. When it comes to EW BiB, I just bought my first bottle today, and I must say that the reasoning was three fold... #1: There wasn't any OGD BiB, #2: the fact that it was a BiB (which is my mainstay when it comes to bourbon) and of course #3: the affordable price for a bourbon used for mixing... But neat... it leaves me flat and searching for something to hold on to. WT 101 on the other hand has been one of my go to bourbons for the better part of 50 years now... and while I am a BIG fan of WT 101... OGD BiB is my #1 choice for a quality bourbon priced for mixing.
