EV ELX 112P vs The Box Pro DSP 112 Active Powered Speaker Comparison

Ойын-сауық

Both Great Speakers for their Price but which one is right for you?
Should you pay the extra money to buy EV speakers or is the Thomann speaker giving you more value for the price of £197 (now £159)? 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐢𝐭 www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pro...
In this video I would make a full sound test comparison between "The EV ELX 112P" by Electro Voice and "The Box Pro DSP 112" by Thomann.
These are 12 inch speakers with a price that would want you to really consider which you would buy. The EV ELX 112P active speaker is currently being sold for £480 with a 2 year guarantee and the Box Pro DSP 112 is being sold for £197 (now £159) with a 3 year guarantee. Also something to note is the EV ELX 12 inch speaker has a power rating of 1000 watts (peak) and the Thomann Box Pro DSP 112 has a power rating of 1200 watts (peak) 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐮𝐲 𝐢𝐭 www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pro.... Now I am not someone that dwells a lot on the "wattage" rating of speakers, however you should know both speakers are fighting their corners with everything they have got.
I would also run both speakers in full range sound mode and I would test and adjust all the equalizer controls for the Low, Mid and High on my controller. This would give us the chance to hear and made an informed decision of how each of the active speakers would perform when in that sound range at your event.

    The thing is the sound we get is as good as our devices return from your recording. Both have a slight distortion in the mid/bass range (from your record device) the best way to judge is, to give a pink noise to the speakers and to measure in frequencies, how much db return from a distance taken with a measurement device with a calibrated microphone. This kind of test (recording the sound with a telephone ar similar devices) are highly subjective. I definitely take the box pro dsp 115 with a pair of subs The Box Pyrit 212 SUB A. And a pair of The Box pro Dsp 112 for sides. The reviews are insane positive for the both subs and tops. As soon I get my set-up I will make a full review.

    Hello mate. Personally I would go for The Box Pro DSP 115 (cos I trust their speakers). I know Alto TS315 have improved their speaker system and the horns (twitter) don't blow up as much, however the headroom for the box Pro 115 is more. Let me break it down: - Maximum SPL for the box Pro DSP 115 is 136 dB - Maximum SPL for Alto TS315 is 134 dB. So, in all honesty I would definitely pick The Box Pro DSP 115 based on the specifications, 3 years warranty, price and also the reliability. Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink

    Hello mate, The kickbass on the box is good and if you adjust the "equalizer settings" at the back of the speaker itself (increase the low frequency to), you would feel it rumble. How low can it go? Low enough to be honest especially if you have an external mixer connected to it. This would get more low frequencies and it would kick back massively 💪🏾😎.

    Hey buddy. You can use a XLR or TRS cable to connect the speaker to your controller (for example a pioneer DDJ SZ, SX or Denon controller). A mixer is an extra external sound device (like the Alto 802) which you don’t need to buy when connecting the speaker to your controller. So in summary, you can connect the speaker directly to your DJ controller with a XLR or TRS speaker cable. Cheers mate, DJ Blink-Blink

    Hello Andrei, I have never heard how these speakers sound BUT after reading the specifications I was impressed. It has a class D amplifier and it can give you a SPL of 130 dB (not bad). However it's a plastic cabinet (I'm not a fan of this types of cabinets) and the horn (tweeter) is just 1" in size. So what do I think? I think it looks good on paper and should hopefully sound good. Hello mate, I would answer all your questions below: 1. Yes, the bass (lows) for the ELX112P is clear and smooth. 2. As per your question about "if the bass is on half", be aware you cannot adjust the bass at all from the back of the speaker. You can only increase or decrease the master volume or line in volume. 3. The speaker is very light to carry and you would not even feel the weight at all. All in all, it is a good speaker if that is what you are aiming to buy, however you should be aware "The Box Pro" is just as good. Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink

    Do you know how The Box DSP 115 stands up against SubZero 15 DPS 1800watt peak?

  • @DjBlinkBlink

    @DjBlinkBlink

    4 жыл бұрын

    I have never had a listen to the SubZero 15" speaker however I compared the specifications of both speakers online and I found the following information: 1. Both have the same Max SPL (136dB) 2. The Box DSP has a RMS of 350W but the SubZero has a RMS of 450W (the subzero is better here) 3. The Box DSP has a power peak of 1400W but the SubZero has a power peak of 650W (the box is better here) 4. The Box DSP comes with a 3 years warranty but the SubZero comes with 2 years warranty at best (The box wins this) 5. The tweeter for the SubZero is 1.35" but the box is 1" in size (the subzero would have better highs when it comes to sound output, which means the Subzero wins this) Putting all these information into consideration, they are both "neck in neck" however without listening to the SubZero speaker and just using my past experience of The Box DSP 115, I would buy The Box DSP 115 over the Subzero speaker. Hope this helps mate. Cheers, DJ Blink-Blik

    @@maxlarsen You are welcome mate. Now to answer your question..."on paper" the amplifier for the SubZero should give a higher 'continuous power' for the output more than The Box Pro. However, the SubZero would peak way before The Box Pro speaker (the 'limit light' would come on for the SubZero speakers before the box Pro speakers). So yes the SubZero "may" punch out more but you would have to keep an eye on the limit light for the amplifier. Cheers, DJ Blink-Blink

    @@DjBlinkBlink I have two of these speakers and I think they should go a little bit louder before they limit. For my Duo band I have some space issues in the car that I use for my gigs and before the DSP112 I used Behringer B210d (always with 2 Behringer B1200d Subs). The thing is, with subs, I think that the DSP112 are not a big upgrade over the Behringer B210d The B210´s are really great and reliable speakers. Of course , by themselves, they struggle with the bass frequencies. But for clear voice, pianos e and guitars they´re great. Now the 2 DSP 112 are in the front fill of my bigger band and I will buy 2 more B210 and one more B1200d sub. With 3 subs and 4 b210´s I will have a really sweet, cheap and small set :) One of my DSP112 had troubles but thomann fixed it, great as usual! Great speakers for the price, but not as impressive as I thought they could be. Sorry for my poor english! :) Cheers

    @@renatoapart Hello mate, have you tried using an external mixer with your DSP112? Also if you connect it with a subwoofer, remember to change the settings at the back of the DSP112 speaker to "with sub" and change the cut off frequency to a different HZ.
