Great video…you are getting to the high current/voltage part of the journey where I am most nervous (about a black smoke scenario or electrical mayhem)! As usual with your usual blend of theory, practical, cat video, live fail with explanation I find myself at peace with the EV journey! ⚡️

what I found and lets see if readers will agree is that you can accomplish maybe as much as 80% of your EV Conversion without even coming near the High Voltage part, however when you do, here are some great safety tips from The CatMan: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hoyu1LlsqaWrabw.html

I already have a stick and know from Catman that one hand is decidedly safer than two, so I’m game!

The biggest problem with the contactor welding itself shut is most of the time you don't realise it happened. I also have the box of shame with several welded or previously welded contactors, a blown 300A fuse ( that was scary) and blown resistor (also scary due to the amount of smoke). 😔

I think that I will be going the OEM route rather than DIY and the hacked options seem to be gathering momentum!

The Nissan Leaf contactor box does not need no CAN Bus to control you just give it 12 volts, see the write up here openinverter. org/wiki/Nissan_Leaf_Precharge_Unit

Any thoughts on pre-charge circuits for multiple battery packs (under hood and rear of vehicle)? I would think you'd still want contactors on the second pack, but with key ON both contactors click on with the ground contactor of the main box, the pre-charge circuit of the main box would handle the voltage wind up? Or just good practice to pre-charge every battery box? Awesome video Greg.

I hope some experts chime in, this is a great question for the Getting Started subforum on OpenInverter dot org, in my opinion two contactor boxes so we dont run live hot wires the length of the vehicle but just one pre charge circuit (relay & resistor)

Thanks for the video, just off topic, I was watching your other video with the Gen1 ibooster where you did a magnificent job in fitting it to your truck. then ( i think, you removed the setup and went back to old skool) did you ever resolve the issue ? I just bought a ibooster and wondering if I will get the same issues .

short answer, no I did not get it resolved, I think the ones I have tried are not displacing enough fluid for my rear drums / front disc combination, if you have discs on all four corners you may be ok, also word on the street is the Chevy Volt iBooster sports a bigger master cylinder so that may be a way to go, I sent you an email message with more info

@@Good-Enuff-Garage I believe rear discs require more volume than a drum cylinder. Typically a rear disc brake conversion that doesn't change the master cylinder runs into two problems, one the hold off valve causing rear discs brakes to drag, and two not enough cylinder volume to apply adequate pressure to the rear discs. So I don't think a larger master cylinder is going to be the solution.
