    Ah you can’t beat the Eurostar. I like the extra room when I’m by myself but sharing it with others is definitely the way to go. A cap makes a big difference on sunny days (especially you’re own branded ones 😉), and if you wedge a couple of tomato plants on the back shelf you’ll have lunch sorted by the time you land. 👍😂

    Great video. Glad to see you’ve embraced the wonderfullness that is the view from the Eurostar. Hot day? Wear a cap as Rory suggests (I hear his are competitively priced! 🤣). Next time try sticking your hand out of the little window and turning it with the drag. Hilarious (get a passenger to do the other side obvs!). Can’t wait to see more of your Eurostar adventures. #staysafe

    Good video Ben and flying a different more powerful type for the first time gets the adrenalin going a bit. I noticed it going from a 152 to a 172SP, it felt like a rocket ship and everything moves that bit faster. Always good to share the experience with others and love taking people up to see their faces (provided they don't suffer air sickness...) but solo also gives you the 'me time' to just enjoy your passion.

    Great episode Ben. The auto left turn feature was interesting. Did you have to apply any rudder? The reason I ask is : when we got the Jabiru she always rolled right when carrying a passenger. We subsequently found out that the plane had been rigged to fly straight when solo. I adjusted it back to fly straight with 2 occupants so when i fly solo i just rest the weight of my foot on the rudder pedal and she will fly level.

    Hi Ben, aircraft typically roll trimmed (fixed trim tab on the aileron) for 2 people so will tend to turn to the left when solo. Let me know if I can assist with your RT video as that's a particular fave subject of mine and you know my pet hate of incorrect phraseology - "Turning Finals"! Have a great weekend!

  • @droge192

    @droge192

    Ben has a NPPL (National PPL) as I asked him recently. It's a lower cost and I'm half way through it myself. Less flight hours are needed than "Full" CAA/EASA PPL. Around £3800-5500 I would say. You can do NPPL(M) in a Microlight like a Eurostar, C42, Skyranger, etc or NPPL(A) in a GA single engine piston like a Cessna or Piper. Same training but the (M) will be cheaper than the (A) because flight hours are cheaper.

    Must be great to fly solo - looks like you needed a cap or some blinds? EV97s are a bit exposed in the sun (visibility and heat under the bubble canopy). There is an expensive blind set, or, as others have done, a cheap set of car blinds (foil covered bubble wrap) with suckers on them. I can't see a safety issue with using such - clear it with your CFI first. In EV97s you need blinds, a cap, suncream and/or shirt collar. Remarkable how the aircraft lent to the left, needs an aileron trim wheel! The airspace to the south is a LOT quieter with Lynham and Wroughton closed. Not sure what will happen when Fairford gears up (to the East)? Love Mikey and Flightchops BTW, great community effort. Support your local club and airfield, SMEs need all the help they can get (or will do once we are over the current challenges that face us all). Stay safe and well all!

    Yeh they really do....I dread to think what it would be like on a really hot day - it wasn't even warm when I flew....! It flies perfectly straight with 2POB, so it caught me a little off guard ...low wing aircraft instabilities maybe? Yeh definitely - hoping our club stays strong. REALLY hoping. Hi Ben, thanks for the reply, I've flown in a couple, in summer, my mate has done a few hours in them too and they're like a sauna in the heat of summer LOL! Great machines though. I'm surprised about the balance issue. It makes sense of course and the ailerons are small and low wing has it's own characteristics. But, I'm wondering, were you light on fuel? IIRC the fuel filler (and tank) is on the opposite side? Perhaps fuel load helps offset the pilot (1 POB) issue if there's more fuel?? Agreed fingers crossed for clubs and airfield SMEs, some were having a tough time before CV-19. Plus instructors too, iirc they only get paid when they're flying. Keep on keeping on mate.

  • @BenAtkinsonVideos

    @BenAtkinsonVideos

    Muso Seven Yeh good point re fuel, not especially light but nowhere near full. Which won’t have helped. Not a major issue - if I was flying solo somewhere I’d either ballast it up with some kit or extra fuel!
