    Песня называется 1944, и она посвящена депортации крымских татар, а не событиям 1922-. Песня посвящена прабабушке, которая потеряла дочь во время депортации в вагонах для скота.

    The song talks about the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in 1944. Jamala heard stories about this event from her grandmother Nazilkhan, who survived the deportation. This song truly spoke for all Crimean Tatar families around the world, including mine! It voices our pain and finally the world has the opportunity to hear it. The chorus is from a traditional Crimean Tatar song called “oh, beautiful Crimea” or “ey Guzel Kirim” that explains how Crimeans never got to live on their homeland, didn’t get enough of their childhood due to the deportation that happened in 1944.

    I can not relate in any way to the "story" of the song, nor do I have any cultural link to Ukraine, and yet, when I watch this performance - even after watching it several times - I always get the chills, especially at the moment she screams and the tree comes up behind her. I can only join in her emotions and message because for me as a Latvian this is a very hard theme, too. It maybe wasn't in 1944, but we had really hard deportations by USSR in 1941 and 1949, made by Stalin, just like other Baltic nations, and we were one of the most suffered nations during WW2 in the world. I just hope that everyone won't have to get that experience again.

    BEST WINNER EVER! (and also my favorite song of all time) No one in Eurovision history has touched people's heart like Jamala did, no one has delivered a song's message like she did (lots of people didn't know it's a personal song or know what she says in the chorus and still they understand what that was about). Almost everybody who watches her performance feels the emotion, feel moved in the end, touched and I also can say sad (because people feel it's a sad story song). People definitely catch her message along the performance goes. Jamala said a lot when she sings the first verses, she felt like the words struggle in her throat, as if was hard to put it out (that's why in almost all 1944 performances feels like she almost can sing the first verses) and even with that, she gives us a show (but She is definitely an amazing technical singer, as you can see in amongst of her performances on internet) . It's so UNIQUE, so POWERFULL, FULLY EMOTIONED, the staging was beautiful and the high notes... WOW IT HAS TO BE HER! I know it never will be popular or a "big hit" but as she said, the point was make people feel her story and she did it in an incredibly high level. THANK YOU UKRAINE AND JAMALA, I'm so so proud!

    That intro... Amazing XD ! Although you might want to shorten it a bit ;) 1944 was such an emotional song. I feel goosebumps each time I listen to it. 2016 was a strong year, but I think the right song won. Please react to other songs from the previous years !

  • @velitiane

    @velitiane

    I would, because at the time of the contest I didn't know the lyrics and the meaning of the song. And I don't speak Crimean Tatar, so the chorus was a complete mystery to me. I was blown away that night, but I understand it can throw some people off. I much prefer an artistic and intimate performance, but it's not the case for everyone. For me Russia was a mediocre song with an amazing staging, so I'm glad it didn't win. It still is a song contest, although the performance is key. Australia was really good, but the lyrics didn't do anything for me, compared to Ukraine it was really bland. For me, a winner must have good lyrics and an interesting theme. It has to bring something new. Jamala sang perfectly, the staging suited the meaning and the composition showcased the emotions of the song. Everything blended together, for me it was the winner. Though I'm more into rock/metal so I was backing Cyprus that year ^^

And if you are reacting to the contestants from previous years, then I can advise you to react to the participant from Ukraine in the 2007. I'm sure, you haven't seen anything like that before. You will be surprised and have fun. Fans of Eurovision still cann't forget that performance.

    Thanks, Jake! 😊 Yep, Jamala is from Crimea and it's a story about her family. It was a huge scandal with Russia after Ukraine won. Russia took third place btw, and Australia - 2nd. You can watch Russia's perfomance to compare all three top songs. I've seen a lot of rections where Jamala wasn't understood at all and people were like "how could this beat Russia". I mean Sergey is a great artist with huge experience and his performance was great but for me Jamala's feeling of the song and the message were totally over the top. But to be honest I didn't think that Europe would understand and like the song and performance that much so it could win. Funny thing is that every time we win, the next year we send songs that in the end of the day appear to be in the end of the list 🙄 I'm from Ukraine btw. So jic contestant from Russia is Sergey Lazarev with a song "You Are The Only One".

    She is amazing, the song is amazing, the staging is amazing. And what most people didn't realise is this is EXACTLY the sort of super cool, contemporary, edgy, music that Jamala creates. Was so amazed when 1944 won. It was special from the time it was leaked before the Ukrainian national final. It was performed well during that final. And then it was taken to an entirely different level for the Eurovision itself.

    Thank you for another great reaction video. I'd personally like to see you react to the other winner songs of the past years as well. In my opinion Austria 2015 with Rise Like A Phoenix by Conchita Wurst is an absolutely must-watch as an Eurovision fan. And then, one of the most popular Eurovision winner songs or Eurovision Songs in general, Sweden 2012 with Euphoria by Loreen. I could name so many other songs but I don't want to overstrain you, you know, life as an Eurovision fan and especially as an Eurovision youtuber is hard sometimes with all those videos to watch. :^) Greetings from Germany, once again P.S. Sorry for not providing you any links for the videos mentioned but since I don't know which videos are available in the U.S. and which not I thought it would probably be easier if you just look them up yourself :)
